  1. Even Kate Linder was wheeled out for 2 episodes to celebrate 40 years when she never appears.
  2. She ran over Paul and Christine... And slept with Billy while married to Jack. Assorted blackmail schemes etc
  3. Helen Shields Aunt Jenny 'The Problem Drinker' Mrs Cole 1950 The Right to Happiness Elmira Roessler Backstage wife Billy Watson 1943 Romance of Helen Trent Gloria Stanwood Mary Patton Arnold Grimm's Daughter one day role 1942
  4. Yes to the first comment but Phyllis is awful and therefore deserves everything she gets. And did my eyes deceive me, but when Phyll(in a hideous top that defies description) was chatting at the Dive Bar with Summer there were actually extras in the background!! Will Sharon finally get some customers at CL?
  5. Maybe there was some trepidation at TGL when they moved to TV but CBS already had two successful soaps underway with SFT and LOL and they were probably happy to be chosen to be part of a new medium that was taking off. Meanwhile I think those associated with Right to Happiness, Stella Dallas, Ma Perkins etc were probably hoping they would be next to transition. The two scenarios are not comparable really.
  6. Whether he's a recast or a new character matters little. If Ashland or Rey are anything to go by, St John will come on strong, peter out and then be dropped.
  7. They seem to have no idea what to write for these characters.
  8. Brenda definitely didn't have the sarcastic and hard edge that Eileen supplied. Peter tried hard to bring a touch of Terry to Jack but eventually the character was softened. Jess filled Brenda's shoes admirably. The next standout actors for me were Tricia as Nina and Victoria as Drucilla. Ashley's Mac stood out. One character I could never get into was Brittany-so much story for an unexciting actress and character.
  9. Ralph Camargo Real name - Rafael Jaime Quintillano Tomar Guiermo Refuzio Camargo.
  10. P'tosha was a great addition to the cast and was nominated for an Emmy and can't get screentime. They couldn't have her back for a day here and there to add some substance to this story? Quite embarassing really.
  11. Agree that Eileen with several years of soap under her belt felt the time was right to make the break. Just wondering whether recasting so soon was the right move? Maybe it would have been better for Ashley to be off the canvas for a year or so to rest the character before a recast. It was a natural time as Ashley was now widowed and at the end of that story. Do you think Ashley off the show was viable at that time? On another note, I wonder if Bill decided with Eileen leaving, to kill off Steven. Maybe he had other plans but thought it was better to give Brenda a fresh start. Steven was really a nothing character and like Blade and then Joshua very bland who presented no real rivalry to the likes of Victor. And they each had a crazy ex coming out of the woodwork.
  12. Yes sorasing Nick so soon ultimately was short sighted. Nick was born in 89 and was a teen lead 6 years later and married by 97. To fill the gap Billy was then sorased to be the new teen in 99 when again he was only 6 years old. If the writers had been a bit more creative the show would be in better shape later on. Maybe Matt Miller's son shows up in GC looking for his dad who has vanished. He stays with Victor and Nikki as a surrogate son and plays out the Nick stories. Jennifer Foster was born in 1981 and could have returned in the mid to late 90's. She could have fallen for Brock's previously unknown son, thus setting Kay and Jill against each other in a variation of Mac/Billy. Re Cricket : do we have any episode counts from that time to see if she actually led the appearance counts or did it just seem that way?
  13. In 1965 when CBS was thinking of adding All My Children at 12pm (sponsored by Proctor and Gamble) that would have displaced Love of Life to 11.30 am. American Home Products which sponsored LOL ,were not happy and pressured CBS not to add AMC. Meanwhile NBC stepped in and offered AHP the 12 pm slot for LOL. CBS backed down and LOL stayed at midday. So there was a possible scenario where Love of Life on NBC would be competing with All My Children on CBS.
  14. John Beradino signed a 5 yr contract when he began on GH but Emily was on a yearly contract. In 1965 she insisted on daily billing before re-signing and John did also. i remember seeing their names for years whether they appeared or not. Later Rachel Ames, Peter Hansen,Denise Alexander and Craig Huebing were credited everyday I think. When did that stop? Mac Carey and later Frances Reid were billed on every ep of Days. Did anyone else have that perk?
  15. Court Benson Backstage Wife Greg Hamon 1946 Larry Haines Aunt Jenny Hearts in Harmony Johnny Keith
  16. Re The Fosters and the Brooks. With JLB gone, Peggy never really clicking and Chris and Leslie very much locked into their relationships with Snapper and the 4L's, I agree that the time had come to drop the Brooks. However I think the Fosters had more longevity. Bill kept Jill on, even going through 2 recasts to keep the character there. He moved her away from Derek/Kay and it worked. Greg was still viable but the Howard McGillan casting was all wrong, If Wings had been recast better, Greg still had a lot to do. All purpose lawyer in town, confidante to Jill , ex to Nikki and available for romances with Ashley, Julia etc. Liz should have stayed on with 2 kids on the canvas, her ties to Kay and possible friendship with Mary Williams. Julianna was too good not to be there. If Robert Colbert had agreed to recurring he could still pop up from time to time and a link to the Brooks family would remain. Maybe he could be used as a talk to for John Abbott. Then down the track a SORASED Jennifer arrives as a new teen. Maybe a friend to Cricket. So plenty of options for the Fosters.
  17. NbC' s failure with L&T and FRFP examined in hindsight lead in so many directions. NBC had failed to launch a successful soap since 1965. Hidden Faces, Bright Promise, Somerset, Return to Peyton Place and How to Survive a Marriage had all bitten the dust in the previous decade. Meanwhile ABC has launched All My Children, One Life to Live and Ryan's Hope and CBS The Young and the restless. So there seemed to be some default in NbC's skills in that area. Debuting a new soap from behind was never going to be easy and the 12.30 timeslot had 2 soaps in place, so why NBC thought they had a chance, especially expecting Rauch and Lemay to handle L&F as well as the 1 hr AW. Then to take the show off the air to retool and come back with a new title and not much else, and then to use the 1pm slot that they hadn't programmed for decades.. Maybe at that point The Doctors should have been moved to 12.30 or 1 and L&F/FRFP moved into the 2.30 slot. What do other think?
  18. Did some research... The 1pm timeslot was where NBC programmed FRFP. Lovers and Friends had played at 12.30 pm. But as NBC had not programmed in that slot since the 1950's many affiliates were reluctant to show it in that timeslot. So the Ch 4 station played it at 9.30 am on a one day delay. So it officially started on a Tuesday after the characters had appeared on AW on Monday in the 3pm timeslot. Guess affiliates showed whatever they liked on the Monday in the 1pm timeslot. So NBC were trying to hype the show but I don't think the odd scheduling was the way to do it.
  19. Scratching my head on that one...is it a CBS actress as ABC and NBc are both represented?
  20. Bill Bell didn't follow his own lead and revamp the show once the lead characters had exhausted logical story possibilities. If Eric or Melody had chosen to leave then things would have been different. Otherwise Victor and Nikki should have settled into backburner status earlier. The children being SORASED so early also led to the problem that 10 years on they too had begun to run out of story possibilities.
  21. Y&R This is the portrait of Katherine in the Chancelllor living room. Again not my favorite depiction of Katherine.
  22. Why was FRFP starting on a Tues and Wed? And that tag'people you'll care about? Huh? How about 'people who will intrigue you'?
  23. Guiding Light Police Captain John Craig 1978 also knew Bill Bauer from years ago. Did the same actor play him in 78?
  24. I recall she only came on to introduce Jesse. Didn't she die so that Frank would become Jesse's guardian, thus giving him some story and tying the new character to an established one?
  25. That seems a bit similar to what was happening to the Fosters as the show began. Liz and Jill worked menial jobs to support Snapper and Greg through their studies. Did Snapper or Greg ever do anything to thank the women for their sacrifices? Like even a new vacuum cleaner for Liz? Greg especially as he remained single foe several years.
