In 1975 when Happy Days began to take off ABC announced a proposed 'Fonzie' spin off that would move the character 15 years ahead and have an older Fonzie dealing with a teen son who was similar to his dad as a youngster. Wiser heads prevailed and they developed Laverne and Shirley instead.

Very true. Every character was new at some point. Core families die off because TPTB are not interested/committed for whatever reason. They should always be mindful of keeping continuity. But over and over again, we see new characters who could have been members of the core families and viable characters forgotten. If Days had a commitment to the Hortons, there could be a lot more onscreen. So many have been written off and forgotten. As talked about before, the Fosters could have continued on Y&R. Greg could have children. Jennifer Foster could have turned up at some point and so on.. On GH Tom Hardy and his children could be on canvas. If the families were refreshed and mixing it up with other characters I think a good balance could be struck.

The whole story seemed pretty much unplanned - very Josh Griffith. Really at that point they should have got a few years out of Nikki/Josh to delay the inevitable Victor /Nikki reunion. They were always more interesting apart. Married in October-when was he killed?

Joshua was the Ashland Locke of his time albeit way blander. He was merely an obstacle to keep Nikki and Victor apart for awhile and once he was gone, everybody moved on. . As he was he would have been more viable as a diversion for Nikki who would never consider marrying him. She would have been using him in a way to show Jack and Victor she could do without them. Maybe she agrees to marry him but realizes at the last minute she didn't love him enough to commit.

Re April 4th ,my cast in bold was in addition to Downs and Murray. Thanks for that. Nice to know somebody misses me! Will continue with True Story for 1959. True Story True Story March 14 Stakeout by Barry Lake A masked gunman steals into a house and attempts to strangle a woman. Cast Coe Norton Frank Campanella Stan Watt Just seen that you have 'Stakeout' listed for March 29th. I think the confusion may be that some stations took True Story on a delayed basis so depending on what TV listing you are using as a reference dates might be off. Don't know how we can clearly line up conflicting episodes and dates? Most seem to agree but there are the odd ones that don't. I will keep posting according to my dates.

It's just a lazy way of creating'drama'. Has Phyllis given up running the the Grungy Phallus? Wasn't that her ultimate dream? What happened to Lily opening a hotel? Has that been mentioned since? It's so annoying that they had a legacy viable business with Jabot and cosmetics is never mentioned now.

Thanks for sharing that Robb. Hopefully all that is behind you. What were the circumstances around Malone leaving OLTL? What stories were onscreen when he departed? Did it feel like he was running out of steam? Was it a case, like many writers,he came on strong initially but found it hard to write a cohesive continuing story wit a core group of characters?

Considering that Chance has to play policeman based in coffee shops with no colleagues apart from ex crim Kevin ....and of course, the whole storyline is ridiculous. Nate coming to work in the 'business' might have worked had it been set up properly by showing some storylines at the hospital that would lead him to wanting to move on but instead (as usual) we get some conversations. How many characters have embarked upon new jobs in the past few months?

That changed over time as Kay softened. Her relationship with Nikki was part of that, as she never manipulated Nikki or made demands on her. In terms of longevity it was probably wise to make Katherine a more sympathetic character. Beau Kayzer's pilot 'Hardcase' began filming March 31st 1980 so he must have been offscreen around that time, unless some arrangement was made to juggle both roles. Can anyone recall if Brock disappeared around that time?

Leslie Charleson was the lead in a ABC 1974 pilot 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner' based on the 1967 movie. Not on YouTube though.

Not soap related but interesting for ratings junkies. Mon March 17 1975 NBC had been running a game show promotion'Shamrock Sweepstakes' with the winners of various gameshows getting the chance to score $100,000. It culminated that Monday on 'Celebrity Sweepstakes' with the lucky winner announced. Celebrity Sweepstakes scored a 10.0 rating/45 share which was the highest rating ever recorded in that timeslot.

Thanks for that extra detail. Storylines for the remaining radio soaps in the mid and late 50's are scarce. I've never read of the Malloys before.
