  1. Thanks @JAS0N47 for compiling these. I'm interested in CBS coverage of NBA regular season and playoffs.
  2. Angela Lansbury had a presence that radiated comfort and warmth, and that's why to this day she has a fanbase of all walks of life. Angela's career ranged from Golden Age Hollywood to Broadway to television, but for me and many of my generation (1980s kids/1990s teens) her two signature roles will always be Jessica Fletcher and Mrs. Potts.
  3. @DRW50 Thank you for the tag. 1970s P&G shows are rare so promos/clips/episodes are a treat.
  4. B&B was the last successful new daytime drama to launch plus it became the most watched American daytime drama in the world, so I can see why it would get a documentary.
  5. The All New Dating Game premiered September 15, 1986 and The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime ended May 22, 1987 so that narrows the date range down.
  6. You're welcome @chrisml and @TEdgeofNight.
  7. Nielsen Ratings: Weekly Charts: 1996 The weeks Another World finished ahead of Guiding Light: July 29-August 2, 1996 September 9-13, 1996 tied September 16-20, 1996 tied September 30-October 4, 1996
  8. Sadly the timeline didn't work. Chris Bernau departure May 1988. Michael Zaslow return January 1989. Chris Bernau passed away June 1989. GL had two show-defining villains with MZ Roger and CB Alan and those that got to see 1977-1980 Roger vs. Alan were most fortunate.
  9. Angela/Jacqueline on-screen rivalry was made even more epic by Jane Wyman alleged beef with Lana Turner. Quite the contrasts in the Golden Age Hollywood trio that had short arcs on CBS soaps in the 1980s. Lana Turner and her alleged diva demands at Falcon Crest. Ava Gardner keeping it real by saying she took part on Knots Landing for money thus not being in any position to throw diva demands. I haven't come across any accounts of Dorothy McGuire throwing diva demands at Y&R, but if she did, believe me we would have known about it. Angela was all about preserving her family's legacy.
  10. Chris Bernau passed away in 1989, so it's possible that he was HIV positive in 1984. Back in the 1980s HIV was considered a death sentence so five years seems like it could be the life expectancy for someone that was HIV positive.
  11. When you get to episode 12, there will be an epic scene. My reaction to that was "hell yes I am here for it".
  12. I remember a Bill Bell interview where he said that he regretted not signing Tom Selleck to a contract. Tom Selleck Y&R run was 1974 to 1975. Magnum, P.I. started in 1980. Somehow I can't picture Tom Selleck on Y&R past a standard three year initial contract.
  13. @Alan Thank you for the scans.
  14. David W. Duclon Dead: 'Punky Brewster' & 'Silver Spoons' Creator
  15. General Hospital started the supercouple trend but Days took it to a whole other level.
  16. To me supercouples were a 1980s trend and more often than not, supercouple storylines encompassed another 1980s trend, action/adventure. Factoring in pop culture and soap press coverage, I'd say the big supercouples of the 1980s in date order were Luke/Laura, Bo/Hope, Cruz/Eden, Steve/Kayla.
  17. The In Memoriam segment at the next Daytime Emmys is really going to hit hard.
  18. @dragonflies That's sad to see. For a long time EB was trying to get Doug Davidson back on Y&R but I don't think EB is anymore.
  19. As the World Turns was coasting from when they lost #1 in 1978 until Douglas Marland arrived in September 1985. It took about a year for Douglas Marland run to show growth and once it did, As the World Turns was CBS #2 daytime drama from 1986/87 until 1991/92. Yes, GL held its own in the Allen Potter/Douglas Marland era against massive pop culture phenomenon General Hospital but I can't help but feel that GL being CBS highest-rated daytime drama in the Potter/Marland era was helped by Y&R being in their post-expansion slump. Remember pre-expansion Y&R was challenging General Hospital and All My Children for #1 but the expansion derailed all its momentum. Y&R rebounds in the second half of 1982 and that overlaps w/ GL post-Marland fall. Whether we liked Gail Kobe/Pamela Long era or not, it can't be denied that Spring 1983-Summer 1984 saw the ratings go up from the post-Marland slump and set in motion characters and storylines that carried GL through its final 25 years. Yes, it was too much chasing 1980s trends which wasn't sustainable and caused long-term damage. The ratings from Fall 1984 onward reflected this. GL avoided cancel territory in the 1980s because Capitol showed no growth and B&B wasn't a hit right away.
  20. April 2 will be 40 years since Julianne Moore debuted on As the World Turns. I love that she still speaks positively of her time there. She also had the good fortune of being on that show in the Robert Calhoun/Douglas Marland era when it was at its creative peak.
  21. I think that was March 1995.
  22. @DRW50 The ABC invasion during MAB's run was an epic fail in its entirety.
  23. I think CBS and P&G were both shaken by 1978-1982 ABC big three huge rise and domination, thus CBS scheduling changes and P&G changes to the shows.
  24. There were times in that segment where he is really trying to hold it together. EB is just keeping it real like always.
  25. That's unfortunate that the beginning of Bill Bell Days is lost.
