Ratings from the 80's
Thanks @JAS0N47 for compiling these. I'm interested in CBS coverage of NBA regular season and playoffs.

Murder, She Wrote
Angela Lansbury had a presence that radiated comfort and warmth, and that's why to this day she has a fanbase of all walks of life. Angela's career ranged from Golden Age Hollywood to Broadway to television, but for me and many of my generation (1980s kids/1990s teens) her two signature roles will always be Jessica Fletcher and Mrs. Potts.

@DRW50 Thank you for the tag. 1970s P&G shows are rare so promos/clips/episodes are a treat.

B&B: "Soaps" Documentary Featuring The Bold & The Beautiful
B&B was the last successful new daytime drama to launch plus it became the most watched American daytime drama in the world, so I can see why it would get a documentary.

Falcon Crest
Angela/Jacqueline on-screen rivalry was made even more epic by Jane Wyman alleged beef with Lana Turner. Quite the contrasts in the Golden Age Hollywood trio that had short arcs on CBS soaps in the 1980s. Lana Turner and her alleged diva demands at Falcon Crest. Ava Gardner keeping it real by saying she took part on Knots Landing for money thus not being in any position to throw diva demands. I haven't come across any accounts of Dorothy McGuire throwing diva demands at Y&R, but if she did, believe me we would have known about it. Angela was all about preserving her family's legacy.

When you get to episode 12, there will be an epic scene. My reaction to that was "hell yes I am here for it".

ALL: Couple vs SUPER Couple?
General Hospital started the supercouple trend but Days took it to a whole other level.

ALL: Couple vs SUPER Couple?
To me supercouples were a 1980s trend and more often than not, supercouple storylines encompassed another 1980s trend, action/adventure. Factoring in pop culture and soap press coverage, I'd say the big supercouples of the 1980s in date order were Luke/Laura, Bo/Hope, Cruz/Eden, Steve/Kayla.

As the World Turns was coasting from when they lost #1 in 1978 until Douglas Marland arrived in September 1985. It took about a year for Douglas Marland run to show growth and once it did, As the World Turns was CBS #2 daytime drama from 1986/87 until 1991/92. Yes, GL held its own in the Allen Potter/Douglas Marland era against massive pop culture phenomenon General Hospital but I can't help but feel that GL being CBS highest-rated daytime drama in the Potter/Marland era was helped by Y&R being in their post-expansion slump. Remember pre-expansion Y&R was challenging General Hospital and All My Children for #1 but the expansion derailed all its momentum. Y&R rebounds in the second half of 1982 and that overlaps w/ GL post-Marland fall. Whether we liked Gail Kobe/Pamela Long era or not, it can't be denied that Spring 1983-Summer 1984 saw the ratings go up from the post-Marland slump and set in motion characters and storylines that carried GL through its final 25 years. Yes, it was too much chasing 1980s trends which wasn't sustainable and caused long-term damage. The ratings from Fall 1984 onward reflected this. GL avoided cancel territory in the 1980s because Capitol showed no growth and B&B wasn't a hit right away.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
April 2 will be 40 years since Julianne Moore debuted on As the World Turns. I love that she still speaks positively of her time there. She also had the good fortune of being on that show in the Robert Calhoun/Douglas Marland era when it was at its creative peak.
