B&B/Y&R: Upcoming December 2023 Spoilers
Thanks @Jeff! I had tried looking for B&B spoilers for the week but it appears they were made available much later than usual. And no I didn’t see B&B video promo at all I presume they’re trying to keep this story’s outcome under wraps.

Ratings From the 90's
1992 Days didn’t know what it wanted to be. There was a touch of realism with the sophomoric drama of Brian/Ginger/Tanner/Molly as bad as it was along with Kayla leading a strike at the hospital, but there was idiotic hijinks like Hawk/Jennifer/Jack, Kimberly’s DID storyline and leftover 80’s plots like John/Danielle and Shane trying to figure out who was poisoning ISA agents lol. The show obviously had no idea what to do after the Two Romans story concluded. As for Wings @Khan, haha I loved that sitcom watching as it aired as a teen/20 something but looking back I didn’t realize how bad and pointless it was when watching reruns…and now I hate using bombing after remembering one one the co-creators died during 9/11. Yikes…… But in the case of Days’ Wings it was the successor to Doug’s Place and run by the Corelli’s at some point. Some the Rafi Torres guy became obsessed with Julie and was in trouble with Roman and Bo blew it up with a bomb…and then Julie fell for her doctor Chip who saved her. Definitely was a fan of all the CBS soaps via my two grandmothers on both sides of the family and mother. Where my mother diverged at was also being a fan of AMC and Days. Days I feel was easy to get into and always felt like a P&G soap to me while AMC felt like a romcom to me. Didn’t help I probably sampled OLTL and GH at their worst and wrote them off for good in the early 90’s, but my mom semi-occasionally watched AW and was semi-familiar with that show as well.

LOL! Nah Wings was Julie’s restaurant. Wings the sitcom didn’t start bombing until 1994 or so. 😅

Ratings From the 90's
Looking at all these low ratings for Days, I see that Scofield family invasion and takeover of the show worked out really well didn’t it? 🤣🤣🤣😂 I don’t know if they were fully to blame as Days had other lame leading characters at the time but the Scofield were so front and center during this time period along with the bombing of Wings…

I couldn’t tell if this was new or previously used footage lol. Of course my minor excitement to see if Susan was really back was killed by Krista’s announcement. 🤨😤

B&B: Popular Actress OUT!
It’s actually pretty interesting to see unanimous backlash and condemnation of the show ghosting Allen. I’m curious if Thudley or Casey will be forced to address the matter further.
-
B&B: Popular Actress OUT!
The sad thing is Krista loved the show and its fans. I don’t know why it’s so hard for him to write a story or scenes for a major character.

B&B: Popular Actress OUT!
Very sad to hear this but also sadly not surprised. I’m glad Krista spilled some tea in that Deadline article. I mean let’s see here: An insider revealed, however, that Allen was offered the chance to recur and she declined. “My agent had called and I had kind of inquired, but nobody was giving me any information” The only cast member she heard from was Kimberlin Brown, who texted earlier this week to wish her good luck at tonight’s ceremony. “I don’t think anybody [on the show knows] because I would imagine if anybody knew that my contract was dropped, I would’ve heard from everybody. Thudley is a MORON, and more proof he never learned from his mistakes with Eakes and Sofer nor has any clue how to run his own show anymore.

Y&R: December 2023 Discussion Thread
Thanks! I think the only thing I left out is missing Mishael Morgan as a regular on this show. Overall it’s unfortunate as a show Y&R has the best potential, yet gives us the WORST execution. A damn shame really.

ALL: Proposed Soaps Over The Years
LOL!! Reading about it at first glance gave me Love Boat/Hotel on an airplane vibes immediately. 🤣 I can’t imagine that being a daytime soap, just a prime time soap like Hotel. I’m quite the song would’ve have made a good theme song, except Spelling probably would have had Dionne Warwick sing it instead 😂

Y&R: December 2023 Discussion Thread
It probably would have been far more interesting if Jordan was Ashland Locke’s sister while Claire was Ashland’s illegitimate daughter getting revenge on the Newmans and Abbots alike and had dug themselves deep into both companies….I mean Jordan could easily be a well know business woman with the Newmans skirting and spooked by her presence in GC knowing what happened to Ashland. Instead we’re given a very improbable retcon complete with a failed psycho. Typical Josh Griffith. Diane’s back from the dead story was crazy, yet it actually worked out thanks entirely for Susan Walters carrying the whole thing. Here we have the improbable story with the Newmans falling off the grid and the strange quick going back and forth between Oregon…? Yikes! Every single one of JG’s crazy sweeps stories in the past year has been awful. Ashland dies a Falcon Crest rip off style death and mystery and nobody cared except Chance? FAIL. Phyllis fakes her death and kills her gaslighter Jeremy? FAIL. Cameron Kristen returns, kills a cat, and puts a bomb on a teen? FAIL. Victor fakes dementia? FAIL. Jordan and Claire are Eve Howard’s evil lost relatives? FAIL. Thankfully this week of December 11th hasn’t been too bad, the definite highlight obviously being it being more focused on the Abbotts and Chancellor-Winters. Just having Jill on makes the show feel like Y&R again as does having Ashley around. I actually have enjoyed the Nate and Devon dynamic here this week. I’m actually mildly interested to see where Christine/Danny/Phyllis is going if anything. I had to laugh out about Abby telling Devon she’s always left out of the Newman loop. I love how Audra is involved in almost everything. Nikki and her flask feels overdone for this story. I have no clue why JG killed Sally’s daughter if Adam and Sally are now back at being endgame. And finally I guess they decided to give us our monthly Chelsea scene to remind us as viewers she still exists lol. Edit: Sorry didn’t realize how long my post and rant was till I posted it. 🙈

@DramatistDreamer I appreciated your thoughts and post on Friday’s episode as I agree with them. Actually I enjoyed both Thursday/Friday episodes of the show this past week, I think having JW back in full force as corporate Jill definitely helped, but even the nostalgia of things like Christine/Danny/Phyllis/Michael was actually welcomed even if Phyllis totally pointless, isolated, irrelevant these days. So not looking forward to anymore Newman drama at the moment personally I have found that story a total fail. Like a coma inducing replay of Sarah Smythe and Daisy all over again.

LIFETIME: "Ladies of the 80's: A Diva's Christmas"
They did in the past but as a whole cable ratings are just horrible looking at face but actually with so much streaming these days and other factors then doesn’t look too bad.

LOL!!! I howled at that line “on safari” because it was so unrealistic. Not to mention there hasn’t been any mention of Marcus; no mention of brother John and nieces Jessica and the Vine; not a nary mention of his absent numerous grandkids either. Thudley blows.

Y&R: December 2023 Discussion Thread
I think the biggest issue I had with Victor’s faking a health scare was given EB’s own medical issues the last couple of years not to mention coming off of Dina’s Alzheimer’s a few years back…Victor faking going senile was in poor taste and I’m glad Lily did compare Victor to Ashland last week as she should. It be better if Victor was more cantankerous and kept his aging in jest while disappointed he can’t do the same things he use to could do; heck even Days gave Stefano diabetes. Of course Josh Griffith was writing Katherine’s umpteenth needless health crisis in 2013 with Cooper got abruptly ill and passed away as the story was getting underway…and JC ad-libbed the “Good night” scene.

Why aren’t you HW of this show? 🙂🙃 it’s pretty disgusting and preposterous really. 20 years ago Nick betrayed Victor and got Victor sent to arrested/jailed yet we have Nick grandstanding…?

Y&R: December 2023 Discussion Thread
A good story for Nate would be realizing the business world is his bones and after a call with Olivia he realizes his heart will always be medicine so he becomes a general practitioner. Audra finds Nate’s new confidence and returning to his true calling sexy and they finally end up in bed together to Kyle & Tucker’s shock. At least the doctor job would be different with everyone seeming to be a corporate CEO these days that almost everyone has now except for Sally, Chelsea, Chloe for their über successful interior decorating business while I guess Michael, Heather, and Christine are the town lawyers…? I don’t even know what Tessa and Mariah do for work anymore. Yeesh. Gone are the days when characters worked a variety professions. It’s wayyyyy overdue to be honest. For years I loathed that Jill always favored fraudulent Cane instead of dealing with Billy, which made zero sense.

Question—In Eric’s moment of flashbacks of “happy memories”, why was his interrupted 1997 wedding with Stephanie one of them? Did he forget about the scandalous picture of him that fell out of the Bible? 🤣🙈🙈🤣

CBS Daytime
Back in the 70’s and 80’s, yes there some markets in the Mountain Time Zone which ran the CBS daytime feed live, meaning of course soaps like LOL, SFT, Y&R, and the first half of ATWT ended up airing before noon. There was some delayed programs along with some entire pre-emotions especially with LOL and SFT of course. By the 90’s and 00’s is where the situation got odd as many big Mountain time zone markets-Denver, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Boise, Billings, Colorado Springs etc ran the CBS daytime out of order. Y&R airing at 10AM based off the 11AM CT feed, day behind ATWT in the mornings, TPIR in the afternoon. Looking at those schedules is often surreal. In the case of KELO you mentioned to answer your question yep in the western half of the state on MT their satellite station KCLO aim Rapid City ran their daytime line-up 9AM-2PM, with Y&R airing at 10AM based off the 11AM feed. Of course this happened to ABC and NBC stations as well running live ET feeds so their soaps ran earlier as well. For example when I moved to Albuquerque in 1997 the local NBC station ran Days at 11, AW at 12, and Beach at 1PM; the El Paso station did the same with Days and AW but ran Beach at 10AM instead. The local ABC station ran AMC at 11AM as well.

I don’t know if I would if I compare GL’s final 15 years to AW’s final years, mainly because GL still had bursts of creative energy, publicity, and/or made some inroads on getting ratings gains there 1997-99, 2002, 2004-06, and even fall of ‘07 when GL beat a destitute Days for weeks on end. Not to mention GL at least maintained some semblance of its past to at least 1980ish and still kept a lot of familiar characters/faces into its final decade. I didn’t feel GL was really limping until the Conboy/Weston debacle and the drastic 2005 budget cuts. @wonderwoman1951Thank you for sharing that article I thoroughly enjoyed the read. Now I want to go back and see if I can figure out who Raul played as an longtime recurring extra. I hated that ugly green makeover they gave Cedars in 2006 it didn’t even look like a hospital set lol.
