  1. Another legend. And she looked so vibrant in interviews as recently as last year. RIP.
  2. I don’t discount that a capable actor can inspire writing, but Jacob Young would be wasted on Chance.
  3. Yeah, I enjoyed it too. It’s pretty much by-the-numbers and predictable af, but QL sold it well. That said, I wouldn’t seek it out or make it appointment viewing, but it might draw me in for an episode if I somehow stumbled upon it. I figured this should probably go into the CBS section, @Toups. Thanks.

  5. Yeah, GH just showed Carly mourning at Morgan’s grave, and his grave showed him as born in 1994. That sort of wacky discrepancy is something soap viewers have become accustomed to—we know Carly hadn’t even arrived on the scene until 1996—but it’s understandable why they aren’t more specific. I suppose they could still celebrate birthdays each year and not specify an age, but they’d rather focus on keeping their plots moving instead of muddying things up with those sorts of annual obligations.
  6. Same conversation, different day for Hope and Liam. They’ve got to figure out different ways for them to relate to each other. They’ve chosen not to dive much into character at all, and the constant plot summary in their dialogue is annoying.
  7. Fourth week at No. 1 for “Drivers License”:
  8. Has JG given a proper interview about Y&R recently? I see Ron Carlivati and O’Connor/Van Etten doing press, but I don’t see JG out there much at all. Not that I expect the soap press to hold him accountable, but I’d love to hear what he thinks he’s doing. If he isn’t doing press, I’m curious about the reason.
  9. Exactly. They’ve forgotten how to milk story. Everything feels so tossed-off and half-assed and meaningless.
  10. B&B actually portrays conflict and soapy secrets, but feels similar in many ways (a lot of rushing through story and missing beats while also feeling very slow and repetitive). I do wonder what’s happening at CBS. Certainly The Talk’s troubles might be a focus right now.
  11. Not that the Kyle baby thing is some great gold, but they do tend to burn through any story that could conceivably provide drama while lingering on banal stuff like Victoria using her kids to manipulate Billy away from Lily. Kyle really shouldn’t know what Sally/Theo know this soon.

  15. ABC has had success (at least in DVR/streaming) with Big Sky this season, so I wondering if they’re going for a vibe that’s as dark as that. I can’t imagine that going over well with longtime AMC viewers. (Fox’s Star certainly had a dark vibe—having an 80-year-old woman brutally raped, etc.)

  17. That episode is powerful. Aside from tributes to characters whose real-life performers have passed away, American soaps haven’t treated death so powerfully in many, many years. I think JJ on DAYS would have been a great story touching on this subject. Not in the context of the racially biased police shooting story, however. Didn’t need him becoming a martyr.
  18. Henry Kissinger is almost 100, and Jim Baker will be 91 in a couple of months.
