  1. It’s tough with soaps because the sort of long-term storytelling often needed to plant these sorts of seeds is rare due to constant writer/TPTB turnover through the years and a largely perceived-to-be homophobic audience. I think a character who isn’t that well fleshed-out or has been consistently backburnered (e.g. hasn’t had a lot of stories told from their POV, yet has been a constant presence—like a Miguel on Y&R-type) might be the best candidates. There are fewer of them these days, since those are the ones who get the chop.
  2. Francisco from Argentina 🇦🇷
  3. There are some usual suspects who are problematic and would need to be treated with sensitivity (GH’s Michael due to his prison rape, B&B’s Thomas due to his mental instability). But I actually think, pre-Quinn, Carter on B&B might have been a good candidate. He wasn’t ever really explored that deeply and his relationships with women always read to me as overcompensating or trying to follow an expected path.
  4. Jasson from the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 in LA 🇺🇸
  5. Aside from live U.S. team sports, which seems to be rebounding, all of TV, broadcast and cable, is in a huge existential crisis that goes well beyond the soaps these days. ABC, CBS, and NBC seem to have bigger fires to put out than the relatively stable soaps. Aside from DAYS, which could transition to Peacock, barring unforeseen changes, I feel like the remaining soaps will stay put as long as network TV itself remains greatly viable, which is a big “if.” However, creatively, these shows would be far better served on streaming. Right now, they are just placeholders being strip-mined for cash and serve a dying yet still relatively profitable audience in the short term. They’d be freed up to do more interesting things (which DAYS is experimenting with) away from the purely ad-supported broadcast world. That’s my guess.
  6. I’m usually uncomfortable with recasts. But HT has butchered her face so much and her Taylor had become such a nutcase, that she was basically unrecognizable to me. KA feels like a nice reset.
  7. You should move to the Middle East, man.
  8. I wish these soaps would find that happy medium.
  9. Lily goes around town baiting Ashland and Adam, looking like a complete idiot on Billy’s behalf. It’s easy to be confused: MTS feels like a recurring cast member. Also, this is the bun atop Lily’s head:
  10. Mod from Syria 🇸🇾 in Dubai 🇦🇪
  11. We will agree to disagree on everything but Shawn and the struggle part. 😂 But I do kinda like the idea of Curtis and Laura from @Chris B.
  12. Haka from Kenya 🇰🇪
  13. The male cast is really a struggle, isn’t it? Aside from Chase and Spencer (who’s obviously not a choice for Portia).
  14. Who would people pair Portia with? They haven’t really given her that many scenes with men other than Curtis, Taggart, and Finn/Austin (ugh). Curtis always seemed to spark with Nina, but they wouldn’t go there for the near future.
  15. I LOVE that guy. And yea he’s well-preserved.
  16. I hope it’s on something soft, like a bed.
  17. I like it too and right now it comes out of their parents’ fraught relationships, which is the way it should be. Not drippy Liam. That said, Steffy needs a good slap from time to time.
  18. Lol stahp. PAS is good at selling the hetsex. Not sure even he could melt the iceberg that is AH.
  19. JMW serves bitchface better than almost anyone. I wanted Hope to smack Steffy. Whenever someone has a bee in their bonnet on this show, they don’t talk about anything else. Steffy has the same dialogue every day.
  20. Again, why are they pitting their bad girls against each other in a corner when the rest of the show could use some shaking up?
  21. The SAG nominations for film were somewhat surprising. No Kristen Stewart, no Belfast guys in supporting, no Aunjanue Ellis, etc. Film categories: Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role Caitriona Balfe (Belfast) Cate Blanchett (Nightmare Alley) Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) Kirsten Dunst (The Power of the Dog) Ruth Negga (Passing) Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role Ben Affleck (The Tender Bar) Bradley Cooper (Licorice Pizza) Troy Kotsur (CODA) Jared Leto (House of Gucci) Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog) Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter) Lady Gaga (House of Gucci) Jennifer Hudson (Respect) Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos) Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role Javier Bardem (Being the Ricardos) Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog) Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick … Boom!)
