Look into the past - 1975
Thank you @FrenchFan for providing these synopsis. The seventies,in my opinion, were the golden years for the soaps. Thanks for adding the writing and production credit too. It helps to see when the writer changes if the story gets better or worse. I am a credits junkie too. LOL!

Recasts on shows: good, bad, in between
About recasts: I didn't like Lynne Adams as Amy on Secret Storm when she replaced Jada Rowland. I didn't care for Kathryn Hays as Leslie Bauer on Guiding Light. I didn't like Patty McCormick as Kim on ATWT. Lynne Adams, Kathy Hays and Jada Rowland was the best on GL, ATWT and Secret Storm.

Soap Storylines/Moments You Would Have Written Differently
@ClassicSoapsFan and @DramatistDreamer I agree with all that you have said! It is so sad ATWT ended the way it did! Irna Philips and Douglas Marland would be turning in their graves. Call me a bitter Oakdale fan!

Soap Storylines/Moments You Would Have Written Differently
I would have liked to see Mike and Ed Bauer, Hope and Alan-Michael return and have a Bauer story to wrap up Guiding Light. The treatment of Lisa and her portrayer Eileen Fulton on ATWT was awful. She put the show on the map in the 1960's. Also, Penny should have comeback for Nancy's memorial, and it should have been a multiple episode thing. We didn't need Katie and Juicy Janet and Liberty.

Soap writers and their non-soap projects
Leah Laiman (ATWT, AW, and others)wrote a series of novels.

HBO MAX: "The Gilded Age"
I am a Downton Abbey fan, so I had to see it because it is from the same writer. I really am enjoying it. I see many comparisons to characters on DA and some dialogue is the same, but I will continue to watch. Baranski is good and Carrie Coons is good as the newly wealthy and upwardly mobile Bertha Russell.

Y&R January 2022 Discussion Thread
I am watching this show today for the first time in quite a while. Boring. This show needs new producers and writers. The first character the new writer creates should be a serial killer. I have never been fans of that type of story but this show needs a jolt.

Unpopular opinions: cancelled soaps edition
I blame FMB for the worst recast ever Susan Batten.

Unpopular opinions: cancelled soaps edition
I liked Lorraine Broderick as head writer at ATWT. A lot of people don't. I wish she could have stayed longer.

Soap Opera Network Celebrates 20 Years of Bringing Drama Closer
Message boards come and go but SON outlasts them all. I first heard of the Soap Opera Network board on the old WoST board. I like the ratings reports and the excellent work that Toups does with the behind the scenes databases. A lot has changed in twenty years. My beloved ATWT and GL is gone. If you had told me that twenty years ago I would have told you that you were crazy! Here's to 20 plus more years!

Love Is a Many Splendored Thing
I remember the piano music. I liked it.

Love Is a Many Splendored Thing
Is LIAMST the only soap that began with orchestrated music and then switched to organ music? I have heard both but I remember Eddie Layton doing the music at the end of the run on CBS.

2021: The Directors and Writers Thread
No Jean please and I am speaking of someone who struggled to be a fan of ATWT during those last years. I did not like her Y&R either. Natalie Minardi Slater has been with Y&R for years. Trent Jones is another writer with Y&R connections. They could be paired with Bibel. As far as a guiding influence: Kay Alden? Jack Smith? Lorraine Broderick? The Cullitons?

‘Pine Valley’ Still in Contention at ABC Despite Lack of New Information on ‘All My Children’ Primetime Reboot
I was never a viewer of AMC but I hope that it happens and it is a big success! That might lead to Oakdale (ATWT) or Springfield (GL). It might convince TPTB that there is still life in the daily serial and pump new life (and bigger budgets) into the four daily soaps still on the air!

Soaps You Could Never Get Into (It's Not You, It's Me)
I grew up watching all CBS soaps. I did watch some of GH ad DAYS but could not get in to them like CBS. I prefer NYC based soaps. Many of their actors were Broadway actors too and they seemed better. I would like to see a return of the NYC soap - specifically ATWT, GL or EON. Also, there are no writers that can compare to Irna Phillips, Bill Bell, Henry Slesar and Agnes Nixon in the business any more!

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Yes. He was asked about Noelle Beck offering to step aside so that Martha Byrne could come back and give the Holden and Lily fans their happy ending. Apparently that was true and he wouldn't do it. I am a Martha fan who never cared for Noelle's portrayal of Lily but that makes me feel better toward her!

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Today is the 55th anniversary of my all time favorite show As the World Turns! I miss it but I am glad for the memories here and on You Tube. Did any one see the article in CBS~SID featuring Kelly Hensley and Chris Goutman on the show winning the WGA award. Made me sick! Goutman is so full of it!

A peaceful night
Kim Hughes sighed. It was 2:30 am and she was wide awake. Carefully she slipped out of bed so as not to wake her husband Bob who had been sleeping soundly beside her. She loved hearing the sounds of his snoring so gently. It gave her a sense that they had did the right thing. She missed Oakdale and the time change still needed little getting used to. In the kitchen Kim put on a sauce pan to heat some milk. Sounds cliche' but warm milk did help her sleep. It had been almost six months since she and Bob had retired from their jobs, sold their home and relocated to Phoenix,Arizona. Gone were the 18 hour days of owning amd managing a television station for her and being Chief of staff of a regional hospital for him. No she didn't miss the lomg hours, the urgent emergencies and the lack of sleep and rest. Oh she missed Oakkdale. She missed her friemds and loved ones. She didn't miss their constant troubles though. And Susan Stewart. She chuckled as she sipped the last of her milk. Yes,she had forgiven Susan and put the stuff she had done far in the recesses of her mind. But that woman and her daughters were the curse of the Hughes men! She rinsed her cup and put it in the drainer and returned to the bedroom. She slipped in beside her peaceful sleeping husband and heard the sound of a train whistle in the distance. All was at peace. No worries,no troubles. No emergencies,no deadlines. Not a care in the world. Little did she know that peaceful existence was going to come to an end real soon! Real soon!
