Breech, in particular, struck me as someone either Jack or Larry would've tried to pick up at the Regal Beagle on "Three's Company." I *think* they were going for a Spencer Tracy/Katharine Hepburn thing in those scenes, but it just landed so terribly wrong. Just looking at Shepperd Strudwick in those scenes, I don't think he gives off quite the same, patrician vibe that Ernest Graves probably did. I think he would've been better off playing Dr. Will Vernon. Jordan Charney, right, lol? Yeah, he was not right for Vinnie. You can't go from Antony Ponzini to Mr. Angelino, lol.

Good question! They'd already recast Kent once. Maybe TPTB had decided that the character wasn't worth recasting again. It's a shame, though, because Lee Godart and Susan Lucci looked incredible together on-screen. Of course, like Kelly Ripa said, Susan Lucci could share chemistry with a doorknob, lol. As for the Greg/Jenny/Jesse/Angie/Liza/Tad/Amanda/Alfred set: I seem to recall reading somewhere that Marcy Walker's decision to join SANTA BARBARA was kind of a last-minute deal that might have caught AMC off-guard, as there had been expectations that would re-sign. If she had stayed, then I do think they would've tried a Greg/Liza re-pairing, especially once Tad and Marian's affair had been exposed. Also, IIRC, they never really tried to pair anyone with Greg after the story with Sheila went bust, leaving him kind of twisting in the wind until they attempted to pair him (now played by Jack Armstrong, I think?) with Robin McCall (who, I swear, was named after the lead character in "The Equalizer," but I digress, lol). But, by that point, I think they just decided they were better off writing Greg out altogether and pairing Robin with either Tad or Matt Connolly instead.

Too bad she didn't use LOVING to keep Richard Shoberg employed. I've got nothing good to say about Noah/Julia. It was painful watching two actors who clearly hated each other try and pretend to be in love with each other on-screen. (At least Kate Collins and James Kiberd were skillful enough to hide their mutual disgust, lol).

Y'know, ABCD COULD have made room for her on AMC. Or they could've just said, "Sorry, gurl, ain't no room at THIS inn! Try CBS!" Instead, they stuck Debbi and Darnell on (NOT) LOVING (IT), a show nobody in charge had given two shits about since 1984. A show so awful, its' own co-creator and original HW left after two years AND TOOK HIS DAMN NAME OFF THE SHOW. That should tell you how much cache Debbi Morgan still had with ABCD at that time.

Frankly, the story that I always wanted OLTL to tell was the discovery that Cathy Craig actually switched Kevin when she had kidnapped him, that she literally forgot she did it when she developed amnesia later, and that the son Viki has raised all that time was, in fact, not her real son. ("Yes," a certain someone who shall remain nameless told me, "and as soon as you begin telling that story, Erika Slezak will kill you.")

The more I see of Kathryn Breech as Karen, the more I'm convinced she wouldn't have been up to the challenges that playing the prostitution storyline posed. She would've done okay with the story - she wasn't the WORST actor - but the audience wouldn't have been as sympathetic toward her as they were toward Judith Light, whose performances even after the storyline was over always emphasized how much Karen was truly haunted by a lifetime of poor decisions and a struggle to be the kind of person whom Larry, Jenny and others needed. Chances are, if Breech had played out the prostitution story, it would've ended with Karen either going to jail, getting killed by a violent john or simply leaving Llanview in disgrace, never to be seen or mentioned again. Meanwhile, that might be the most I've ever seen of Nancy Pinkerton's Dorian...and I enjoyed watching every cold and calculating moment of it, too, lol. Don't get me wrong, Robin Strasser will remain "my Dorian" until the day I shake off this mortal coil, but I think if I had been alive and watching OLTL back then, I would've loved watching Pinkerton just as much. In fact, I think I see how her Dorian really informed Strasser's take, in terms of her cunning; while Claire Malis' Dorian seems to have informed the layers of softness and vulnerability that Strasser would later bring to the role as well. In the end, Strasser's Dorian really was a merging of Pinkerton's and Malis' Dorians, but shot through with her own panache and sense of humor. And boy, was Jennifer Harmon chilling in her scenes with Lee Patterson, as you could see her Cathy starting to come unglued over the loss of their daughter. I've watched enough DARK SHADOWS to know that Sam Hall and Gordon Russell knew how to write those kind of moments when a character is so unbalanced emotionally that they could send shivers down your spine. Conversely, I know Katherine Glass had her fans, but I gotta be honest: I don't know whether I could've taken her Jenny for very long, lol. I realize she's supposed to come across as young and innocent - she certainly doesn't know at that point what she's getting herself into with Brad Vernon! - but...I dunno...there's just something that's a little TOO sweetly earnest about her. (Even her voice began to get on my nerves after awhile). Brynn Thayer, IMO, was better at making Jenny kind-hearted and sympathetic, but not making it seem as if cartoon birds were going to land on her shoulders at any moment. Thanks, @Vee, so much for sharing these videos - and for tagging me. 2025 is already shaping up to be quite the year for soap finds!

The Politics Thread
As I was told several years ago by a Catholic priest, the Holy Bible is essentially a translation of a translation; and the translation that we commonly choose to follow (the King James Version) was put together by a group of men who deliberately left out many things that did not support their own beliefs. I believe there is something in the Scriptures about neither adding to nor taking away from the word of God, but I'm no expert, so don't quote me on that, lol! And if it's true that over 50% of DEI hires ARE white women, then they have screwed only themselves; and about that, I will Never. Stop. Laughing.

The truth is, no matter your feelings about DEI initiatives, they're just smart business at the end of the day.

Usually, I detest watching catfights on television, but Doreen and Maya's catfight was different for two reasons. One, Sally Sussman, MVJ and the rest of GENERATIONS' writing staff had been building up to it, so it didn't feel like Doreen and Maya just decided one evening to wipe the floor with each other; and two, it wasn't just a bunch of hair-pulling and heavy panting, like most other catfights tend to be. Doreen and Maya's fight was a real FIGHT. You DO realize Clifton Davis is almost eighty years old. I mean, he looks GREAT for his age, but....
