Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
Reading about your ordeal just breaks my spirit, Amy. Thank God that you were ultimately vindicated and that you were able to receive the professional help that you needed to cope. I pray that all women out there who have been through what you went through come out on the other side as well. I see what you mean. Mama Khan was STUNNED when she learned Luther Vandross was gay. But I was, like, "C'mon, you couldn't tell??". Truthfully, I suspected Spacey was gay when I watched him all those years ago on "Fall from Grace," the NBC miniseries where he portrayed Jim Bakker. My gaydar pinged before I even knew the concept, lol. Meanwhile: Celebrities ain't havin' none of his [!@#$%^&*].

You know...this is the kind of [!@#$%^&*] that caused people to create the Hays Office back in the day. IJS. Don't worry. As we speak, he's still packing his bags and finding good homes for all his pets. Yup.

My guess? It'll blow up. Others will come forward about Spacey. And yes, I agree, "House of Cards" will fold. You know, it wasn't enough for Spacey just to apologize for the incident. No, the preening s.o.b. had to try for another Oscar-worthy performance and drop a bombshell that, frankly, wasn't a bombshell. (If you are shocked that Kevin Spacey is gay, then congratulations for emerging from your coma.) On the one hand, I GUESS I should applaud his coming out (even if, again, just about everyone knew already). But, OTOH, part of me feels that that is TOTALLY beside the point. The fact that Kevin Spacey is out of the closet now does not and should not, in any way, mitigate what he did to Anthony Rapp and Lord knows who else. Oh, well. I'm just proud of Rapp for finding the courage to talk about this incident after living with it for so long.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Val Kilmer reveal years ago that his and Spacey's friendship broke apart after Spacey borrowed money from his mother and never paid her back? Or was it the other way around (Kilmer borrowed the dough from Spacey's mom and never paid it back)? Anyway, reading about this brought that incident to mind. What pisses me off about this (aside from Spacey's deplorable behavior that evening) is that this will likely fuel the paranoia many homophobes have against gay men (namely, that they're all depraved individuals who think nothing of raping underaged boys).

Yup. I, for one, have always found it suspicious that the three states that experts said (before election night) Trump needed to win ended up being the three states that HELPED him win. At the end of the day, money talks, and everything else walks. So if FNC's revenues are truly plummeting, then I would expect some major changes, both in the content of their "news" stories, and in the folks delivering them to us at home. (Rupert Murdoch's sons have been itching for the chance to make FNC more CNN-like. This might give them that chance.)

Try most of her catalog, Toups. I'm sorry, but it's clear Tay-Tay employs SOME kind of track sweetener to smooth over the VERY rough spots in her voice. Maybe "Autotune" isn't the right word, but she uses something.

Hopefully, by then, she'll stop using Autotune as a crutch and learn how to [!@#$%^&*] sing.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
I'm surprised as well, amy. IIRC, Stefano impersonated "The King" in order to impregnate Susan. JER easily could've written a story where Elvis' spirit began battling Stefano for possession of his body.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Not as THE Elvis Presley, though, right? Because, if so, then Ron Carlivati's just as bizarre in his thinking as JER.

Seriously, could we round up all these pervs and, like, exile them to some remote island, or something? Heck, make it a new reality series, if you want! Just ensure they never come anywhere near any women ever again.

Don't get me wrong: I understand the need to sacrifice accuracy (especially about something that -- let's face it -- is not part of the mainstream) for the sake of a joke. But, c'mon, you can be accurate AND STILL make the joke. When it comes to soap operas, it's really not that difficult to do, lol. Ironically, THAT would be a classic Brad Bell move, lol. I actually remember the episode with Pamela Anderson, if only because Dorothy Lyman played the Y&R director who was directing Heather in a scene with Lyman's former AMC classmate, Peter Bergman.

I've always said there was a stark difference between the Donald Trump that I remember from the '80's, during his "Art of the Deal" heyday, and the Donald Trump that I see today. Maybe it's because of his "Apprentice" fame, but it seems to me that he used to be better at hiding his true colors. IDK whether it would make any difference. However, how sad is it that I would welcome Mitt [!@#$%^&*] Romney running for Congress? Once again, that's what we have been reduced to, ladies and gentlemen.

IIRC, Donald's dad died from Alzheimer's complications, so the threat of his also having the disease is there.

Ah, so, lol. Thanks for the explanation, Leelea, and welcome to the board! It probably isn't THAT big of a deal that they would use a clip from AMC (although, given the time period, I'd be more inclined to use a clip from GH or even Y&R). I think I'm more amazed by the fact that they actually used a clip from 1984 and not '83 or '85 or whatever. They took the time to get that right, and to me, that's incredible. Meanwhile, I'm STILL smarting from "The Nanny" and their egregious Y&R reference, having Fran say Snapper Foster and Ashley Abbott had had a baby which was then stolen from her. (It was clear no one who worked on TN had ever watched Y&R.) That's how particky I am when it comes to non-soaps referencing real soaps.

Knots Landing
One word: money. It was probably cheaper to hire a new actor than to keep employing Harris, whose salary probably had increased with each season (as most actors' salaries on long-running series tend to do). Anyway, that's my theory.

I had a feeling, lol. I don't watch ST, because sci-fi and horror aren't my cup of tea. However, having seen the link that Leelea graciously provided upthread, I have to ask: Also, I'm really curious as to how and why the Duffer brothers would write AMC into their show. Were they or their mother fans or something? Or maybe they just came across it on YT -- I'm sure it's out there -- and said, "Yeah, let's use that." Usually, when people incorporate soaps in that fashion, they always get it wrong (either use a clip from the wrong year, mix up storylines or create them from whole cloth, mention characters or actors that never were on the show, etc.). Ergo, it's just so intriguing to me how, for once, someone gets it right.

It's like what Oklahoma state senator David Holt told the NYT back in August in the wake of the Charlottesville incident: “If I tried to sell young people in general but specifically minority groups on the Republican Party today, I’d expect them to laugh me out of the room.” I think people like Bob Corker, Jeff Flake and now Joe Straus are reaching the same conclusion. There's no way the GOP will ever be able to reach out to younger voters or brand itself as a party of inclusiveness after Trump basically turned the party over to the White nationalists. It's just disgusting and sad that these men were SO hungry for a win that they couldn't see what rallying behind someone like Trump would do to their party in the long run.

Remember the Black woman who came for Jeffrey Dahmer in the courtroom? If not for the bailiff and others restraining her, she would have given that sick mofo the beat-down of his wretched life. My point being: if it ever did come to blows between Trump and Mother Waters, I've a feeling that Mother Waters could more than hold her own. Authorities are told that a Caucasian male resident has threatened to kill and all they can do is shrug. However, let these same authorities get wind of some "suspicious-looking" African-American teenagers hanging out in front of a convenience store, and before you can say "probable cause," they're there, at the scene, armed to the teeth with weapons and protective gear, with helicopters flying above, and SWAT team members, agents from the ATF, CIA, FBI, and NSA, and even troops from the local National Guard, all standing by. THAT is the America we live in. Yep. He and Bob Corker want to pretend that this is not the Republican Party they know. However, the truth is that this IS the Republican Party they know. They just did a better job of hiding the fact.

I'm always amazed by her performance in this episode. To me, it's almost eerie how she channels Carol Burnett's take on Eunice.
