Y&R August 2023 Discussion Thread
I wonder if he has some of agreement for them to let him stay listed as contract in the cast...perhaps the same at Kate Lindner, who I do wish they would use more. She would have been the perfect character to take over the coffeehouse versus tying Sharon to it. I watched the closing credits of a 90s episode on YouTube and counted the number of contract actors listed. It was 40! And, then some recurring characters were listed as well. I miss when soaps could have such a large, well-rounded cast.

A Liam murder mystery...or putting him a coma for a long bit...would be a much needed break. If he wasn't on...every...single...episode...repeating the same exact dialogue and being insufferable. It's odd that they haven't shown Bill reacting to any of this. I mean he just tried to put Shelia away. It seems like Bill would be coming up with all sorts of plans to keep Shelia away from his granddaughter. I wish we didn't just see the same seven or eight actors episode after episode.

I could have done without Summer and the green screen rollercoaster. That being said, the show has to go with Chance/Summer. That's where the chemistry is. Chance/Sharon equals boredom. And, Connor Flynn deserves his own storyline beyond just doing police work. I knew Phyllis would, of course, get off. They should have at least sent her to "jail" for a couple of months and then have her return ready to stir up trouble again. I wonder if they are planning on using/keeping Christine in any capacity beyond this. I think the show sort of missed the boat with her not ever having kids of her own because she's not really tied to any of the characters beyond friendship. I feel like CLB would have made sense to be Phyllis' lawyer during all this. Which makes me wonder if he wasn't available and/or isn't really on contract anymore.

I like this idea. It could be a great umbrella story. I, too, am so over the corporate talk. Killing Coleen was a HUGE mistake and made no sense at all. And, to give Victor her heart, just rubbed salt in the wound. It also limited Tracy's potential in the future.

I wish more characters who take Liam to task for the wishy-washy bore that he is. I think SC is a great actor actually, but there's only so much he can do with this writing. Liam is so insufferable.

Days: Rumor of yet another character switcheroo for existing actor...
The turning of Ben, the serial killer, into a romantic lead was one of the things that initially caused my viewership to drop. It was just too much. So, I can understand why they switched him to Alex, but after playing a serial killer/hero for so long, that's all I saw when played Alex. I liked a lot of RC's writing the first few years as I do believe he really loves the genre, but I think for the show to continue into the future it needs a good reboot. Cut back on the constant coming back from the dead, sci-fi Dr. Rolf, so so so many Dimeras, and give us more stories with actual character development that have some sort of heart. No more mask wearing to cause conflict - PLEASE!!

Young & Restless - July 2023 Episode Rankings
LOL...right?! There are so many corporations mentioned on the show in every episode I wonder if the writers/producers have to use a huge whiteboard just to write them all down...who works where this week, what their "job" is, etc. Sometimes I get so tired of hearing about the latest "exciting" business development.

As much as I wasn't a huge fan of the pairing, I think I'd have to say Victor. Besides him, the show always seemed to struggle to find another character that Ashley clicked with.

Elena has been such a bland character since her arrival. It'd be fun to see her turn evil and become obsessed with taking Nate down and maybe stealing Devon back from Abby. There's a lot I take issue with on the show right now, but one thing I have been enjoying if all the emphasis on the Abbott family again. The Newmans dominated storylines for so long with whomever was left on the Abbott side getting storyline scraps. I'm surprised how much I enjoy Ashley and Tucker together, but TSJ is the first actor ED has had any chemistry with in what feels like forever. I'm excited to see what Diane cooks up next because I just can't believe she's truly left all of her bad girls behind, and I can see Audra joining the family mix. I've always wanted to see more Tracy though, and it would be so great to see BM finally get a true story of her own again.

Oh Lord. I actually love Emily O'Brien, but this is such a horrible idea. Sometimes I feel like DAYS has just turned into a parody of soaps the last few years.

It doesn't make sense, and there's so much wasted potential with Zende. But then we barely saw Bill ,Katie, Taylor...But, we got 19/20 for Liam! I've watched Liam and Wyatt have the same conversation with the same words for at least five episodes now.

DEADLINE: Days of our Lives Misconduct Investigation Against Co-EP Albert Alarr
I just emailed the two Peacock executives and told them that until AA is removed from the DOOL staff I am cancelling Peacock...which I just did.

What is it going to take for them to finally fire this guy? So much abuse has been tolerated in the entertainment industry for so long. It's great to see people say enough is enough...but you hate that it had to come to this. That set sounds like a complete toxic nightmare to work on for everyone who isn't Albert Alarr.

I agree that Shelia's current stay is up. She's a character that you can bring in for arcs to stir up some trouble, but she's hard to maintain in the long run. (Although, I guess DAYS turned a serial killer into a hero...which I never once bought.) I would send her packing at this point and bring her back later. A fresher take would be to bring back the child of Shelia and Mossimo...Ridge's sister, Steffy's aunt, and Finn's sister! Have her show up...not revealing her identity...gets the job as Finn and Steffy's nanny and focuses on getting the two to break up so her mom, Shelia, can return and take a rightful place in Finn's life.

Y&R July 2023 Discussion Thread
Again, I sometimes feel that this show oddly avoids conflict. It would have been so much better for Devon, Abby, AND Chance to decide to all reside in the Chancellor Estate for Dominic's sake. I mean, supposedly, the place is huge, right? Then, they could have explored unresolved feelings between Abby and Chance as well as his developing feelings for Summer, Abby's niece. Chance is the hottest actor on the show, and I wish they would find a proper way to utilize him. I also wish they would have left Esther and Chole (and I guess Kevin by extension even if we don't see him anymore) to live in the estate as well. It just feels wrong for Esther to not live there anymore. Chloe and Chance also have history. But...at least we're seeing the set again.

NBC Daytime
Did we ever find out what the hell the red swam was about? I remember all the Corys just looking at it all the time and talking about what it could mean. Did they eventually just kind of drop it sort of how they did the music box Katherine left for Jill on Y&R? It's interesting to note that within the 18-49 demo ratings AW did move up to the middle of the pack there for a while in the mid-90s. I liked a lot of what JFP did initially. The shows look became more modern, stories moved faster, and I even enjoyed the whole John and Felicia affair not because of any chemistry the two actors had, which I thought was lacking, but because of how it impacted so many different characters and forced people to take sides. And, it, of course, gave Sharlene that Emmy-winning material to play.

Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
I remember loving LG in the role of Gina and being so disappointed when she was replaced, but then I totally feel in love with RM version of the character. I was always disappointed with how the show handled the character of Santana. She had so much potential to be a long-term and complex lead on the show. I had high hopes when they brought on Wanda DeJesus, and she sort of became a lead character for a bit. But, I think the backstage drama that WD supposedly caused derailed the character yet again. I would have loved to have seen what the Dobsons would have done with Rachel and Carl on AW. I loved the somewhat dark and gothic version they sometimes wrote for SB, and I think the same tone could have worked with Rachel and Carl.

It wasn't Point Pleasant. It was a show that aired on the USA network, The Big Easy. It was a very silly show loosely based on the movie.

Liam, Liam, Liam. Will we ever get a break from this guy? The show needs some new blood...STAT. What happened to all the new characters BB promised earlier this year? Who is RJ supposed to date? He's related to every female besides Shelia and Taylor!

I was hoping we would have had a bit more drama and spectacle for the Jack and Diane wedding. That being said, Susan Walters continues to be one of the MVPs on this show right now. She plays Diane in a way that you're still not 100% on whether she's just playing everybody still. I may be a little biased since many, many years ago I worked as a PA on a show SW starred in, and she was always super nice to all of us on the low rung of the ladder. That was certainly not the case with some of the other actors.

I thought Lindsay, too. The exit was so abrupt, and I thought Sarah and Xander were at least a somewhat popular pairing.

Y&R July 2023 Discussion Thread
I'm not sure what the point of Chance and Sharon having sex was. He actually has chemistry with Summer, and now that he's been de-aged, I think it would be an interesting match to explore. They still haven't really given the actor a chance to shine yet. I'm so over Billy, Chelsea, and Adam at the moment. I would be completely fine with them giving all three characters a rest. I'm not sure Adam is really needed. We already have Victoria as Victor's "mini-me" and Nick is in contrast to her. He just doesn't seem needed. Chelsea is probably the most boring character on the show in my opinion...next to Elena, who seems to have disappeared. I'm not sure what the point of having Chelesa around is. They seem to be spinning their wheels with Billy, too. I think he and Chelsea should move off together, and bring Billy back later when there's a story warranting it. Seeing Lauren today reminded me of how much I miss seeing her. I wish they would invest in that character again.

Hollyoaks: Discussion Thread
I loved the show until about a year ago. Now, I just watch it a couple of times a week. I think they still take a lot more storyline chances than any of the US soaps would ever dare to do. I thought the Eric/Maxine storyline was well-done. But, the show has gotten a little depressing lately for me. It seems everyone is ill all the time! I was disappointed that Honour was written out as I thought she was the most interesting of the new characters. Now, Dave seems pointless. I can't get into the hijinks stories either such as the bank robbery.
