Y&R July 2023 Discussion Thread
Again, I sometimes feel that this show oddly avoids conflict. It would have been so much better for Devon, Abby, AND Chance to decide to all reside in the Chancellor Estate for Dominic's sake. I mean, supposedly, the place is huge, right? Then, they could have explored unresolved feelings between Abby and Chance as well as his developing feelings for Summer, Abby's niece. Chance is the hottest actor on the show, and I wish they would find a proper way to utilize him. I also wish they would have left Esther and Chole (and I guess Kevin by extension even if we don't see him anymore) to live in the estate as well. It just feels wrong for Esther to not live there anymore. Chloe and Chance also have history. But...at least we're seeing the set again.

NBC Daytime
Did we ever find out what the hell the red swam was about? I remember all the Corys just looking at it all the time and talking about what it could mean. Did they eventually just kind of drop it sort of how they did the music box Katherine left for Jill on Y&R? It's interesting to note that within the 18-49 demo ratings AW did move up to the middle of the pack there for a while in the mid-90s. I liked a lot of what JFP did initially. The shows look became more modern, stories moved faster, and I even enjoyed the whole John and Felicia affair not because of any chemistry the two actors had, which I thought was lacking, but because of how it impacted so many different characters and forced people to take sides. And, it, of course, gave Sharlene that Emmy-winning material to play.

Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
I remember loving LG in the role of Gina and being so disappointed when she was replaced, but then I totally feel in love with RM version of the character. I was always disappointed with how the show handled the character of Santana. She had so much potential to be a long-term and complex lead on the show. I had high hopes when they brought on Wanda DeJesus, and she sort of became a lead character for a bit. But, I think the backstage drama that WD supposedly caused derailed the character yet again. I would have loved to have seen what the Dobsons would have done with Rachel and Carl on AW. I loved the somewhat dark and gothic version they sometimes wrote for SB, and I think the same tone could have worked with Rachel and Carl.

It wasn't Point Pleasant. It was a show that aired on the USA network, The Big Easy. It was a very silly show loosely based on the movie.

Liam, Liam, Liam. Will we ever get a break from this guy? The show needs some new blood...STAT. What happened to all the new characters BB promised earlier this year? Who is RJ supposed to date? He's related to every female besides Shelia and Taylor!

Y&R July 2023 Discussion Thread
I was hoping we would have had a bit more drama and spectacle for the Jack and Diane wedding. That being said, Susan Walters continues to be one of the MVPs on this show right now. She plays Diane in a way that you're still not 100% on whether she's just playing everybody still. I may be a little biased since many, many years ago I worked as a PA on a show SW starred in, and she was always super nice to all of us on the low rung of the ladder. That was certainly not the case with some of the other actors.

DEADLINE: Days of our Lives Misconduct Investigation Against Co-EP Albert Alarr
I thought Lindsay, too. The exit was so abrupt, and I thought Sarah and Xander were at least a somewhat popular pairing.

The season with her was sooooo much fun! I recently watched the whole series on Freeve.

Y&R July 2023 Discussion Thread
I'm not sure what the point of Chance and Sharon having sex was. He actually has chemistry with Summer, and now that he's been de-aged, I think it would be an interesting match to explore. They still haven't really given the actor a chance to shine yet. I'm so over Billy, Chelsea, and Adam at the moment. I would be completely fine with them giving all three characters a rest. I'm not sure Adam is really needed. We already have Victoria as Victor's "mini-me" and Nick is in contrast to her. He just doesn't seem needed. Chelsea is probably the most boring character on the show in my opinion...next to Elena, who seems to have disappeared. I'm not sure what the point of having Chelesa around is. They seem to be spinning their wheels with Billy, too. I think he and Chelsea should move off together, and bring Billy back later when there's a story warranting it. Seeing Lauren today reminded me of how much I miss seeing her. I wish they would invest in that character again.

Hollyoaks: Discussion Thread
I loved the show until about a year ago. Now, I just watch it a couple of times a week. I think they still take a lot more storyline chances than any of the US soaps would ever dare to do. I thought the Eric/Maxine storyline was well-done. But, the show has gotten a little depressing lately for me. It seems everyone is ill all the time! I was disappointed that Honour was written out as I thought she was the most interesting of the new characters. Now, Dave seems pointless. I can't get into the hijinks stories either such as the bank robbery.

B&B July 2023 Discussion Thread
I guess at least we're getting two stories an episode right now...sort of. I feel like every scene with Liam is just a repeat of the exact same dialogue as the episode before. Poor Wyatt. At least they're showing him, I guess, but without a story of his own.

DEADLINE: Days of our Lives Misconduct Investigation Against Co-EP Albert Alarr
As the Deadline article mentions, it's perplexing how a genre that primarily targets women viewers is almost completely run by toxic men. I watched DAYS regularly for many years, but I gave it up about six months ago. All the mask wearing, constant comings back from the dead, way too many Dimeras and almost no Hortons now, amongst other things finally turned me off. I liked RC writing for the most part the first few years, but towards the end of my viewing I felt like I was watching more of a DAYS "fan fiction show" versus something professionally written. The show just got more and more preposterous and wasn't relatable anymore.

I agree that Jill's absence is the one missing the most for me. She should have been moved into the former Katherine town matriarch role.

Exactly. You can criticize the writing, even the acting, but I don't get why people want to make nasty comments about someone's physical appearance.

I hope RJ has to try on shirts more often! But, it's kind of sad. There are no other characters his age, and all he has to talk about is the rehashing of Hope/Liam...like just about every other character. At least we got two stories in one episode finally!

It seems like everything is on streaming these days....except Knots Landing. Does anyone know what the hold up might be? Is it a rights issue?

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
I didn't really start watching the show until the Allie/Cooper/Casey/Steffi years which I thought were, overall, entertaining and the actors had great chemistry with each other. Steffi's mom, Debra, was a great find! Curious to know what some others thought was "the best" era of the show.

Soaps That Were Good at Comedy?
For me, Santa Barbara wins this category hands down. The show could be really laugh out loud at times, and they had many actors who were very gifted when it came to comedy. The hijinks of Gina and Kieth, the Lockridges, Mason and Julia...just top notch. I feel her passing left a hole on the show that has never been able to be replaced. B&B needed the Spectras, the up and comers, to balance out with Forrester Creations. The Spectra gang 2.0 just didn't have the same spark, but I'm not sure they gave it enough time to develop, either.

Being Over The Hill On Soaps | Days of our Lives, Another World, All My Children, As The World Turns, Young & the Restless
I feel like VW got put into the "older" category too soon. She's obviously a good bit younger than the others on the panel. I wonder if it's because of her pairing with DW or that they SORASED Jamie so early.

Thanks! The only other child besides Ava that I remembered was Carly. I guess by giving Kate eight children the writers were leaving plenty of options for the future! It's so interesting that on three different shows written by Agnes Nixon we got the long-suffering mother with the raven-haired social climbing daughter. I guess she figured if it worked once... I read Nixon's autobiography, and I was surprised that she never mentioned Loving one time while there was a ton about AMC and OLTL, of course. It would have been interesting to get her take on some of the struggles the show had especially airing against Y&R.

I agree 100%. She may have insisted to the one year contract, but it certainly didn't help The City when it lost its star. On another note, I believe Kate was supposed to have had eight children. How many of them did we actually meet? Who were Allie's parents?

I think it would have worked even bringing Morgan Fairchild's character to Corinth. She could have bought the Alden mansion!
