  1. Good. I hope they do get jail time. Funny how these Hollywood elitists preach how regular people should live their lives - no school choice, socialized medicine, green energy, gated communities, armed security guards  - and, yet, they don't follow any of those 'ideals.'

Why on earth would these celebrities need to scam these universities? Didn't they have plenty of money to pay for tutors, personal coaches, etc. to give their kids even more advantages? C'mon. If their overprivileged children couldn't get into on their own merits and connections, they shouldn't be there in the first place!

VR and MS have been pictured together at least once since MS left Y&R the last time. I'm assuming they're on decent terms now.

Also when MS sought advice from VR for her surrogacy.  You don’t ask for help in such a personal matter from someone you loathe.

Nothing would make make me happier than for VR to rejoin Y&R, especially since MS will be back. As acting partners, they had amazing chemistry together.

  3. I wonder if FOX delays the 3/13 return date and they end up reshooting/creating new scenes and editing down (or out Jamal) in the  first 7 episodes, which have been filmed. I guess they are filming episode 8 (out of 9), which before this broke word from the set was that several planned scenes had been rewritten. FOX is in a tough position because having JS week-in-week-out for the next 3+ months is not good. This story isn't going to get better.

The fact that this was about money disgusts me.  I'm not even going to say what I think of him for that.  I will say that I have exactly zero sympathy for someone making $20, 000 an episode or $65,000 or whatever. That's still more money than 90% of Americans make.  That is the most f*cked up reason I have ever heard for committing such a heinous breach of trust.

    90%?  Try 99.9%! 65K x 18 episodes = $1,170,000

It's disgusting - this only makes it harder for hate crime victims to be believed or heard. I'm from Chicago and two big red flags from get-go: 1) Chicago ain't 'MAGA' country in any shape or form; and 2) it was 2 am during the height of the Polar Vortex. Ain't nobody sitting in wait outside. I can't tell you how sickened I am about this.

Since Empire had 4 sons now, I'm betting Jamal was the one that was 'odd man out' and did this in an attempt to stop them from doing it.

It would have been funny if her step-brother replied, "One day I noticed that my mother's curtains needed mending, so I attached some fringe, and from that day on I called myself, Draper..."

But seriously, I also like that Raven had played with boys like Logan, Kevin, and Elliott, but it wasn't until she lost the support of Geraldine that she left Monticello.

I'm behind here, but love the "Draper" name origin.

It's funny, but I first saw Edge when the Sky/Jeff Brown story kicked in and I was hooked - it was on late night after Nightline and I happened to tune in.  Once I had the opportunity to view the 1978-1980 episodes, I realized the show really got hit with the loss of Logan, Elliott, Draper and, even Steve - all were gone when I first started watching. And Raven sure managed hold her own against all of them.

According to daily recaps for tomorrow's episode, the tribute for Kristoff airs at the very end of the show. It's shown in place of the Next Week's scenes clips. Kristoff is shown in a clip talking about his time on Y&R while some flashbacks are also shown. He thanks and says "I Love You" to fans in the clip and then the "In loving memory" placard is shown again.

I wish we would have gotten a full show showing clips from his time on the soap.

A full show takes time. These episodes have been finished for at least two/three weeks. It's not that easy to do. I'd rather they take their time and do an appropriate storyline exit for Neil that includes former cast members like Tonya and Shemar as well as proper recognition for KSJ, rather than slap something together.

  7. I hope that all the love for KSJ and the love for what "Neil Winters" represented to so many actors/fans will get CBS/Sony to wake-up. You'd have thought they'd learned when Y&R lost over a million AA viewers after SM left and CBS was scrambling doing surveys to figure out WTH happened.

Whatever test research demographics is pointing to Latinos replacing AA seems to be in vogue. Yesterday, I read Jennifer Lopez is headlining the MOTOWN tribute at Grammys on Sunday - during Black History Month to boot. How crazy is that?

I truly hope Y&R comes up with an appropriate Neil exit storyline that is worthy of the character. My wish: bring Dru back when she hears of Neil's passing and kick-off a whole new era for the Winters. I know it'll never happen.

  8. I can't recall ever seeing an actor/celebrity passing where it's near universally discussion about his "generosity" and 'heart.' I'm kinda floored by the fact that many of us long-time viewers/soap followers didn't have this insight to the man. I hope he is finally at peace - such a shame, but I know we all have compassion and understanding.

And shame on those trolls attacking anyone for not grieving publicly.

  9. @j swift You're so right. I've always loved that scene. And what an exit: "so free with beautiful black wings," then out the door. Outstanding camera work keeping focus on SG during the whole speech until she grabs purse on her way out.

In many ways, SG's Raven was written like a man - strong, sexual, scotch drinker, aggressive, determined, etc.  You'd think 40 years later, soaps would be filled with women like that.

correction:  Nora Fulton (real name Roxanne Walker)

The Nora Fulton story was one of the best written for the series (although i was able to identify the killer from nearly the beginnning).

Catherine Bruno just nailed that character and was so sad to see her go. The single episode where Nora gets it is one of the best post-Clown Puppet era. And Nora's speech in front of the camera. I'll never forget watching the video - I jumped out of my chair when it happened.

There was that woman who put Brad in the cage on Y&R named Lisa, but agree it’s underused. I wonder if that’s a name writers stayed away from because Eileen’s portrayal was so iconic.

That's right - Lisa with the 'lioness hair' as I used to call her but she didn't last. It's hard to believe ATWT was #1 for 20 seasons and Eileen Fulton was the face/driver of a lot of that success, which would make other shows - especially the P&G ones - steer away from Lisa.

@kalbir I never picked up on "Abby" as "Abbott" before, but now it makes sense. It's ironic considering Ashley knew her bio origins.

  12. @ChitHappens I don't think the Colbys are done for. I wish Jeff had been cast with RCR instead. I wouldn't be surprised if Dynasty 17 follows the original and recasts like a daytime soap. No primetime soap came close to the number of major recasts of Dynasty 81.

One thing that makes this Dynasty work is the incredible diversity, yet the characters are not all about color/race - though they aren't afraid to address issues either. I hope they don't lose that. But the show does need to make some tweaks in Season 2.

Also, Dominique is coming in Season 2. Oh, I wish Vanessa Williams was available instead of being tied to that False Profits series that is on hold. I see Jeff with Kirby, like original.

I started watching once it got full season 1. It's definitely not nearly as horrible as people made it sound. Sure, it's campy (it's Dynasty!), but it does move fast, has some great one-liners and has EG and NS. And talk about scandal - making Jeff/Fallon related! Yikes.

I'm really curious how it's doing internationally since it's exclusively distributed on Netflix during the regular season. CBS did say it made money for Day 1 because of that deal.

  13. @Mitch I'm so glad someone else felt the same way about Luther's Corners/the farm house, etc. Tuscany, my a--. Did Marland ever visit that part of Illinois? The farm was a nice novelty for the first couple of years, but as all the children became successful, it was ludicrous. I like the idea of the 'rough side' of Oakdale. Even Monticello, of which Oakdale was treated as a suburb, had an urban downtown with questionable bars, seedy motels, the dance studio, etc.

I remember when someone gifted Emma with a new refrigerator and for some reason a few weeks later, they tossed it and brought back that old icebox from the 1950s. For being such a 'great' cook, you'd think those kids (and Lily, Cal, Rosanna, etc.) would've gotten Emma the best appliances, etc. It still could've been an interesting set blending the old with the new.

It's funny how everyone Emma ended raising/knowing somehow earned, married or had serious money - not a poor one in sight. Though Caleb as a cop was the closest, but even he was middle class and Julie was a model. It just seem ingenious after awhile.

  14. They sure jammed a lot of stuff in the full episode of Alexis. I like that they didn't try to replicate the original Alexis. While NS seemed a bit off at the beginning, she was clearly starting to get her groove as the episode progressed. They're also making a good choice in shifting the rivalry to Alexis-Fallon. EG/NS certainly will be entertaining.

I also liked that Alexis really does own Carrington Manor, but Fallon paid off the anesthesiologist to alter the times - and told Alexis to her face! While this Dynasty has it's flaws - it certainly has a lot of energy and is never boring. Like the original, I fully expect at least one or two characters to be recast - most likely one of the Colby kids.

  15. @Chris B I started watching on Amazon Prime around Xmas and I've watched almost 300 episodes in 2 months. I watched part of it on DVD years ago. It's perfect binge material.

I have found it interesting how certain key actors were off-screen for several weeks at a time.

As I rewatch DS & TEON, it's clear the worst thing to happen to soaps was the 1-hour format.

  16. One big issue with soaps getting released on streaming or other services - the unfortunate use of pop songs starting in early 1980s - the licensing fees are very expensive especially compared to an individual episode's relative worth. I also don't think they are easily 'wiped' from audio tracks based on the way they were filmed and preserved back then. Wasn't this an issue with the DVD sets that were produced a few years ago?

I've often wondered how Dark Shadows is doing on streaming services like Amazon (I've been watching) as well as The Doctors on RetroTv. With those soaps, it really helps that they are only 30 minutes - so they are easyier to watch, focus on fewer stories at a time, etc.

Contrast that with my favorite period of the show when Raven left town for the first time before Margo's murder and Raven does seem different; if not more mature.  One of my all time best soap scenes is when Raven explains to April how she gave herself her nickname.  I love when Logan tells her that she incapable of love and she believes it so she gives up parenting Jamie.  I love her weird relationship with both Ansel and Draper that dripped of sexual undertones.  I love that she and the Chief Mallory have no-strings-attached sex and there are no consequences.  I also love that she is ambivalent about motherhood.  I think what sums my appreciation of that era is that it is so contemporary.  Unlike the Irma Phillips characters who were always shamed for their craven desires, Raven's punishment was much more internal.  Of course she lost her kid and some money along the way but it wasn't until Sky-prime that Raven believed that she was capable of being loved.

In both stories that writers needed to deal with Raven's temporary departure but the earlier one is done in a much more intriguing way; but I can't tell if that is writing or producing or just time.

I couldn't agree more about Raven during that era - she was written 'like a man' - aggressive, unapologetic and strong. I wish soaps wrote women more like that. Raven's exit was amazing and the name scene stands out as a highlight her run. BTW - Does anyone know why SG left the show at that point? Upon her return, she was clearly being punished by being left out of the new opening credits, which debut months after her return - despite being the main female protagonist. Obviously, that was more that made up in future openings.

Lori Loughlin started off on EDGE in 1980, and she's barely aged a bit. She still looks fantastic today.

Even though she was crowned one of the first 'hair models in soaps,' LL was a huge find for EON. Jody was annoying character at times, but she kept the show young.

  19. Yes. He wanted something newer and edgier.

I remember reading - back in the day - because SFT was not on in STL, where I lived at the time - that CBS decided they wanted to do something 'new' rather than give SFT, yet another facelift. The hype was that Capitol was going to be the "Dallas" of daytime - getting the primetime launch and opening credits that tried to minimic Dallas. I remember watching it and thinking this show is definitely NOT all that. It had it's moments, but knowing what I know now, CBS gave up a solid show that was pretty compatible with ATWT/GL. (Similar to the way they botch TEON, which was #2 until the timeslot change and then sent to ABC. CBS got nervous when ABC overtook it and lost sight of the fact that their solid line-up was its biggest asset, even though it was 'older.'

  20. Stephen Schnetzer (Cass, AW/ATWT) played a prison inmate on the 4.2.15 episode of The Blacklist.

I just watched that episode on DVR the other night. SS does NOT age. He looked great and he's 66! A VERY under-appreciated actor. I never got how he didn't land as prime time series regular - particularly on a procedural.
