  1. She was fired. They bought her out of her contract. After the negative reaction to this, they then brought her back as a new character for a few episodes. She said that the upside to the whole thing was she got to buy her mother a house with all that money they paid her to get rid of her.

One of the most idiotic decisions a show has made. I never got why they would fire her and buy her out. AA was just the bomb to watch. There must've been some backstage reason why they did it because it made zero sense, but the show was desperate as the ratings really slipped badly after S6/S7.

  2. I love me some Cookie. TPH is amazing and WB/POI should be ashamed for firing her last year. The show is great. The cast is surprisingly strong with only couple of really weak links (Hakeem & Michael) - even minor characters like Camilla & Porsha are interesting. I loved the "Baby Momma" twist at the end of last week. Completely unexpected. Will be interesting how they use that to push Jamal and avoid the gay issue when marketing him.

Anyway, I hope this doesn't go the way of The OC, too much too soon. I believe FOX will cap at 16-18 episodes and they will air with AI in January-May.

  3. That probably depends on who you ask. I wasn't as much of a fan of FC as I had been of KNOTS LANDING or even DALLAS. However, I think the consensus among the majority of fans is that FC was consistent until the penultimate season, when then-EP Jeff Freilich was forced out (according to another interview on the fan club site, Lorimar felt the show was getting too expensive) and Melissa Agretti (Ana-Alicia) killed off. After that, it was a pretty rapid slide in quality.

The show did take a big hit when Miami Vice started to take off. In S4 FC was a top 10 series, the following year it dropped from #10 to #24 while Vice went from #31 to #9. FC tried to make changes to make the show younger, but it didn't work. When Vice was moved to 9/8 (opposite Dallas), FC stablized #23, but the damaged had been done. It's funny, but FC did produce more episodes than Dynasty (227 to 220) and lasted the same number of seasons (9), but FC was always perceived as a timeslot hit (thanks to Dallas), even though the show clearly had a following.

  4. AF was wonderful on TEON. I always hated that she was paired with much older looking FC, who I liked. Just like Nicole, I kind of hoped they would "de-age" Mike by hiring a younger looking, though mature, actor - especially after Edge suffered the "Big 3" loss (Logan, Draper and Elliot in a short period). I didn't realize how much the quick loss of those three actors impacted the show until I saw the old tapes. (I started watching during the Jeff Brown storyline. While LM was obviously a huge find, I know get the void left by those three.)

  5. I think even if NBC cancels the show USA will pick it up. They are always showingv reruns and they rate really well.

I go back and forth on Amaro some episodes I really enjoy him and somev episodes he is a drag. Overall I like the new group but wouldn't mind to see a new detective or two next season. Isn't Olivia a sergeant now?

NBC won't cancel it, unless Mariska quits completely. With the salary purges of the three original cast members in last three seasons, I'm sure the budget is down. Plus, despite it's low overall ratings, it's still one of NBC's highest rated programs.

  6. I almost feel as if the writers had intended to make Ciji and Laura a lesbian couple BECAUSE Richard made such a deal about it. (And really, who could blame him? I felt the overtones between the two women were strong and undeniable.) But CBS and/or Lorimar were just too skittish to let them go ahead with it.

You have to remember this was 30 years ago - no flipping way. Even Dynasty copped out with Steven once the show became a hit - suddenly he's bi and basically straight, which was fine. (Part of it was the Al Corley somehow gave off sheer sexuality - all the way around; Coleman - not so much in any respect.)

It was kind of amazing how KL unwittingly killed off Ciji before they realized the ratings were moving up, up, up (and the demos were getting much better). KL, I believe, finished that season maybe in March or April? Anyway, the production cycle was way ahead and it wasn't until they realized they risked losing the entire young audience they gained. Lisa Hartman truly saved KL at a point when most of it's audience was very old.

I always loved that last shot of Ciji picture and then the cut to the dark ocean and her body on the beach. The irony is that when you look at the clip - it doesn't necessarily mean that she's dead! She could have been unconscious, etc. However, I did like all the twists with Cathy Geary (initials C.G. - KL writers' humor).

  7. I still can't believe it's been three years on Tuesday. Try to forget that day. I wish they could've reworked it as a 30-minute show. Oh, well. I was watching the scenes where Emily tells Hunter she the bio-mom and it reminded me how far KMH really came as an actor. Of course, the story was too brief, but a nice memory from 2009 (and there weren't many of them).

  8. LOL on the Betsy thing, she also seems mildly retarded here. Can't remember why she married Craig, it wasnt like he came from a good, rich Oakdale family. Would have made more sense if it was one of poor farm cousins of the Hughes. Then you have the pressure to marry a Hughes (to explain why this nitwit would get married when she was still in college to anyone) and he would be marrying her for her trust fund.

Both Colin and Deas were odd fits for ATWT. I just can't see either one of them in scenes with Nancy and Chris like HBS and Marx...(can you imagine Colin's strident Margo saying"Gram," to Nancy Hughes?????) Weird.

Three castings I just never warmed up to on ATWT - MR (don't get me started), FR (with that stupid brown leather thing on his wrist) and JD (he did NOT look like the son of Lisa and Bob in any way - from looks, to how he held himself, etc) I just never got how these three were part of the early 80s success of the show. Frankly, I was glad when all three were gone. When you had actors like CB and Kim Ulrich (Diana) propping up MR & FR, it was awful to watch.

  9. The storyline had its high moments ...too bad it ended or fizzled out with Darryl not being the killer.

ITA - I love the scandal that involved "pristine" Carolyn and the photos. It was actually quite shocking at the time. Come to think of it, I don't recall another soap touching this sort of taboo subject.

  10. Jump to 5.40 and see why 1998 was such a kick ass year for Y&R. The music, the look, the acting, the stories. SIGH!!!

And in 1998, I can assure you people were saying the same thing about episodes from 1983! (Using the 15 year lookback.) The great thing is that we now have access to 30+ years of our shows (even if it's just scenes, storylines or full episodes), so we can cherry pick and watch from different eras or storylines and compare. It just kills me that so many shows were lost pre-1978 to wiping.

  11. Some 1981 (a commenter said they were 1981?) clips, dubbed into Russian.

Definitely 1981 because this featured the second "version" of the intro and the first to feature SG. (I assume she was omitted from the first because she was being punished for leaving several months earlier.) It's hilarious to see Chris Goutman as Sharkey. I wish more clips were available from the time AOL ended (Nov. 1980) until USA picked it up (June 1981).

  12. They did, didn't they? I wonder why it went nowhere. At the very least, you could have had a very interesting triangle with Jack, Carly, and Molly.

Because MW showed up a couple of months later and that was that! smile.png The Jack/Carly chemistry was so strong from the on-set, I don't even think they considered throwing Molly into the mix as a distraction. Plus, they were trying to "save" Molly by giving her a "cuz," which really helped. I actually liked Jack/Molly, but I think it worked out much better in the end. LOL

  13. I didn't care for Connor and Cal, but I hated Mark and Connor. It drove me nuts that this powerful business woman became obsessed with doing it in a treehouse.

ITA - some of that was so bad. What was it with Cal ("Red Boots") and Mark ("Treehouse") So darned cheesy! I did like Connor with the original actor (James Wleck) who played Linc. The recast really changed the tone of the character and obviously not for the better.

  14. Connor & Cal always creeped me out. IDK - it was probably the whole age difference. It seemed like they were "domesticating" this vibrant, intelligent business woman as an old man's trophy wife. (Granted Cal always treated Connor with respect, but still.) So when Connor and Mark connected, it was great. I liked an episode where Connor and Cal where fighting about going to a Snyder party and she said something like she was tired of hearing the same family stories again because it made her feel old. That summed it up.

  15. I would have seen Nola going for a mysterious guy, or a successful reporter/professional.. not someone blue collar like Buzz.. imho

Of course, I never understood why Jenna would go for Buzz either.

The Jenna/Buzz story was incredibly unbelievable. I just failed to see the attraction there at all. It seemed like the perfect example of where JD is an "actor" so he could pull off being a leading man with anyone. Sorry, but FH/Jenna seemed like she should have been in the Spaulding mix. (Like all the jewelry heists at the beginning and even the Roger stuff made more sense than Buzz.) Plus, I always thought Nadine/Buzz made a much better couple.

  16. Wow, I had totally forgotten that Shannon's storyline on ATWT began with her living with John Dixon. I must have blocked that out, although they had a fun chemistry to them.

"Who's the lady in the shower singing Jump for My Love?" Classic. I loved Shannon - she was part of the new era that helped shake the boring uptight Oakdale landscape.

  17. If you ask me, Benjamin Hendrickson was a far better actor than many of his peers at Juilliard.

Right there with you. This was one of the things that I loved about ATWT - they cast so many trained actors. They weren't always the best looking or your typical hair model (although they were hardly dogs), but they sure could act. Probably more than any other soap, they few hair models/pretty boys stuck out in a much more magnified way. Of course, that started to change by 2000.

  18. Regarding the Kirk Michaels S/L, I read somewhere that ABC intervened and it was rewritten. Does anyone background on whether this was true? If so, what was changed and why? It was such a long story and dominated six months of the show (frankly - it was too long), but it did have some good moments, but some really bad ones.
