  1. Well, the fact other actors weren't bothered by it doesn't mean the fact she was wasn't legitimate. Some people are more indulgent with what others count as unprofessionalism but that doesn't mean it is not unprofessionalism. Not that I know what the truth is obviously. Oh I agree with you. I was simply pointing out why it would make sense from the point of view of an editor trying to sell books to focus a whole chapter on SB despite the show not ever having been as important or good as AW was.
  2. Yes. However Santa Barbara has an active fandom still today. 70s Another World, particularly since noone will ever get to watch it anymore, is more or less forgotten but for the most hardcore of fans.
  3. These kind of lists are hard because everyone (me included) wants to nitpick this or that placement. My surprise is that, since the author mentions that the tableflip is #1, partly because the clip has been seen way beyond the Housewives watcher universe (which is true), I would have thought Aviva's leg-throwing would also be in the top considering that's another clip I see many non-watchers have seen or heard of as well.
  4. I don't think Heather has a problem standing by what she said openly. She's never been the kind to back away from it. Problem is Leah SEEKING out what she could possibly have said that might offend the other ladies who had no problem until then. All Heather said was in public domain. If the other ladies cared, they could have followed. They didn't. So that's just petty drama-instigating with someone she doesn't even know. My favorite is when she says "I have to call her out on it now because if she says this of people she knows, what is she going to say about me?" Well, Leah, I know what she will be saying about you *now*.
  5. I am not arguing this. Actually that's part of what I am saying: she knew that if she was boring, the only way for producers to make her interesting would be to a petty fight with others and as we were discussing, some housewives would be more than happy to indulge. So she was smart to get out when she did instead of trying to squeeze that fruit much longer. And I doubt she'd be back. She seems to really want to do nothing right now.
  6. I think we are underestimating that factor. Eileen *was* smart. She got what she wanted out of the show, whatever that was, but she knew not to overstay her welcome.
  7. Talking about RoHo... I had assumed when he leaked that he'd be back, that it would be soon enough and that's why he felt OK saying it. Now that time has passed and no sign of him it makes the fact he immediately spoiled the story by mentioning he'd be back even more galling. Way to screw the show over and diminish the impact of your character's death. I mean I didn't like the character but Gee! That's not being a team player at all here. Wonder if anyone behind-the-scenes was as pissed as I would be about this indiscretion. I definitely would encourage soaps to be more flexible about letting performer juggle other projects. The number of performers we have lost over the years that would have stayed on further for the stable pay check but wanted to be able to do other things and couldn't if they were under contract... I think letting them do other things may make the scheduler's job harder but I think it is a win-win for the show and the performer.
  8. I don't doubt for a second that AS has enough pull on the show that if she was bothered, she would have had it nixed. Heck, they wouldn't have even tried to insert it in the script. But still, I think you are right that it is not something that is in character for either of them and it is cheap and not particularly funny and therefore not worth going there.
  9. There is nothing in this conversation with Lisa Rinna that makes any sense to me. It is just... words with no coherence. Calling yourself name is not the equivalent of an explanation or an excuse! The irony for Rinna of course is that the best explanation/excuse for her behavior is the one she can't give: she is doing those things because this is a TV show and she is giving a performance and she thinks this kind of drama was what producers wanted. Reacting as a real friend and someone who is there and for whom there is more than just TV, it is horrid behavior. But on the other hand"Why is it your place to keep each other honest?" strikes me as a bit deluded on Garcelle's part, if a human reaction. This is reality TV; of course it is part of the job to call each other out. The problem is when it crosses the lines into bullying and belaboring minor BS AND a double-standard with the ones they are NOT keeping honest (cough, Erika until now, cough). But Rinna's behavior, like it or not, crasser than it needs to be, has a logic to it and she is making no sense here because the simpler explanation for it - not necessarily sympathetic either btw -is not one she can't explicitly admit to.
  10. Heck, AS is very outspoken about her own struggles with her weight. And I love BD/Lucas and I totally "would" but it is not like he has not also visibly been having the same "struggle" these past few years (I can say it; I have been too!). Not a fan of using the topic as a punchline not just in context of the show and no matter the character but in general.
  11. I am sorry to be saying it and I don't know whose fault it is but they are very very clearly trying to write Lily as a white character who has as little to do with her AA background as possible.
  12. I never check actors' social media because I am often disappointed with this or that comment but I went to KKL's and 1) I had no idea she was a grandmother. It makes sense based on her age but it still feels like WOW has time passed 2) I like that she still seems to be in touch with Ashley Jones a lot. And seeing Jennifer Gareis in so many pictures seem to confirm what we were saying a few days back that Gareis seems to be very popular with everyone on-set and that's probably why they had her on contract even though there was no real story reason to.
  13. I liked Jason as Patrick a lot too. I think he is miscast as Billy - it is Maura West as Diane miscast level for me. Fantastic actors but when a role isn't theirs, it just isn't. I do love David Tom and I hate the way he was treated. I do sort of understand what they were saying about why it didn't work when he came back but the answer should have been to move Billy out of Victoria's orbit, not to recast.
  14. See, I never understood why Larry King had that reputation. Every interview I have seen of him was AWFUL. He had no idea what he was talking about, who he was talking to and repeatedly asking random non-probing almost mundane questions (presumably because he had no idea what to ask since he knew nothing). I prefer an interviewer who knows exactly who he is dealing with because it means he/she knows what the interesting things to ask are and how to get information out of the subject. Think about it this way: if you have an hour with someone, do you think you will get a more interesting conversation with them if you have prepared and already knows the basics and what interest them/ticks them off or if you are starting from scratch? I do agree the Alan/Larry comparison is accurate but it is a not a good thing to me.
  15. I never quite know how to feel about this debate. I understand that characters of color being mainly domestic helps is a huge problem if that's the ONLY representation but on the other hand, it is a real sad and problematic but accurate real-life dynamic that people working as domestic help are almost always people of color. If that's a backdoor to introduce people of color on a show AND the characters in question are then developped as proper characters, am I genuinely offended? I change my mind all the time. Chao-Li was a wonderful presence on the show and I loved his relationship with Angela, which seemed to be the warmest she had with any other character. But of course he wasn't given that much to do.
  16. I don't agree but different strokes.
  17. I find Jason Thompson a lot more distracting as non-Abbott-or-Jill looking especially considering how different he looks from the frame of the previous three Billys.
  18. To be fair... maybe it was because they didn't want to set up an entire new photoshoot in the age of covid19? NY I saw the excerpts of NY where Leah goes "What's the plan for Heather" and proceeds to *seek out* on her phone negative things Heather may have said about the other women at the table and Sorry but that's one way to completely and forever turn me off of Leah. What a ridiculous thing to do.
  19. I hear the story and I wouldn't be mad at it but I do agree that having another until-now-completely straight character "explore" would ring wrong. At least Mariah was fresh enough that we could believe it. There has never been any suggestion of anything for Abby so it would feel plot-driven. I mean, I'd accept it if properly written but if they wanted to really explore bisexuality or hetero-flexibility, the seeds for Adam were already planted and they never did anything with it. He would be a better candidate once they realize what is interesting about the character is everything that they are pushing under the rug right now in efforts to sell the character as a romantic lead.
  20. I don't think happy endings is what I would have preferred necessarily. But there are PLENTY of ways to let the show on a "The Story continues..." note while still providing some closure, some sense of where character is ending up at the time the show ends and some level of satisfaction. It does not have to be a happy ending or even "ending" route. Just a sense of finality for the current chapter of these characters' lives. I could have even been OK with the JR cliffhanger. It is just that the AMC network finale left a LOT of other threads dangling and didn't really offer much in terms of definitive answer - because they were leaving the door open for PP. The characters that DID get a satisfying ending - Brooke and Adam come to mind - are characters they knew they wouldn't bring back. Admittedly their was a happy ending but otherwise I didn't leave a sense of where each character story would be going once the show ended, which is not satisfying.
  21. I think it is pretty clear Devon being the biological father was a last-minute rewrite after they decided to write Chance out because it makes little sense on its own merits OR as storytelling. But I will say I do like the idea there will be a baby who will be a descendant of Victor Newman, John Abbott AND Katherine Chancellor. Talk about an heritage! I would be OK with Abby working in a completely different field from both branches of her family if it was explicitly done as a rejection of her family and creating problems. Instead, it, like Abby herself, is just there. It is not like they couldnt do things even with the bland current version of her. But they don't.
  22. All I can say is that Swan's very right-wing leanings date a LONG time so it is not a late-life switch on his parts. I knew about them twenty years ago and I am just a random soapwatcher.
  23. I'd love a plot twist whereby it was Gizelle. Notwithstanding the barbs they throw at each other, Giz is the one who was friends-ish with her long before the show and she was the one to show up for Karen's parade thing.
  24. I continue to say that while I understand why everyone was happy the shows were going to live in some form, AMC in particular and OLTL would have been better off being done on network TV so that they could give it a proper ending. Not only did PP not work out but creatively, the things they prevented the shows to do as they went off the air and some of the creative choices about what happened to certain characters that weren't going to appear were bad and upsetting and I'd rather they never had happened.
  25. See the problem is the latter part of that sentence, not the former. Let's be blunt: part of Days DNA *is* outlandish plots, we can't deny it. But there is no reason outlandish camp plots have to be dumb. They can be layered and complicated and fun and entertaining rather than groan-worthy. There have been plenty of outlandish plots over the years that worked for a reason or another: the subtext around family for a lot of DiMera plots for instance. But noawadays we are closer (although not quite there yet) to Garden of Eden trials stuff than quality. It is dumb, which is bad enough, but it is tedious more than anything.
