It’s interesting to look at season 5 original air dates. The show aired in consecutive weeks, even Thanksgiving week where you can see a drop in the rating. It’s not like now, where network tv airs a number of episodes and then waits for the next sweeps period to air the next new eps. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Knots_Landing_episodes#Season_5_(1983–84)

One could make an argument that Diana’s irrational behavior and blind love for Chip resulted from her unresolved grieving for Sid, but… the writing didn’t really support that. As is, Diana just seems generically unwell mentally.

Sorry, you have a few more months to go, haha Remember how the April story stopped all the sudden at beginning of May? I don't have proof of this, but my theory is - it wasn't supposed to stop. Michael Damian was supposed to leave for Joseph, and then Cricket and Paul would transition straight to the April story. Instead, Michael Damian's broadway debut was delayed, so he stayed on the show another 6 months... the April story was delayed 6 months... and the writers came up with the "senior citizen" story to keep Cricket and Paul busy during the interim. And Bernadette was kept around

There was never resolution to the character and she wasn't portrayed as a villain like Phyllis. She just had a crush on Danny. To me, she was boring and pointless. In real-life, the actress playing Bernadette, Kelli Rabke, co-starred with Michael Damian in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Broadway.

Don’t think it ever got romantic with Casey and Brock… Things were heating up with Brock and Julia when Beau K decided to quit in Sept 80. Don’t know if they were well-received by viewers… Peggy was married to Jack Curtis and engaged to Steve Williams but neither was a healthy relationship. Her fling with Jack Abbott sounded more fun! In a more enlightened era, I think Peggy could come out as gay or bi

They chem-tested Casey with Snapper, Lucas, and Jonas, but nothing clicked. Edward the stalker was originally obsessed with Casey, but the writers changed course, writing Casey out and transferring Edward's obsession to Nikki. The show was nice to give RobertaL some work when they brought Casey back from '85-89, but the character was a pale photocopy of the original version. Casey 2.0 was just a talk-to for Nikki

Picturing Kay and Dina’s friendship got me thinking up a 1960s-set YR flashback spin-off! I think it’s pretty good… someone get Josh Griffith on the phone! I know all the timelines don’t sync up but just roll with it… Dina chafes at mothering baby Jack and needs a distraction. Kay introduces her to tennis instructor Brent Davis. Wayward teens Brock and Lorie start sleeping together and dream of departing to Europe. Lorie does all she can to sabotage her prodigy sister Leslie. The Foster family is stable. But suddenly, Bill Sr is fired from his bookkeeping job… Teens Snapper and Greg are played by the hottest new young actors in Hollywood. Jill will be played by a child actor, and rarely seen… though she will show a talent for hair and make-up. Pregnant teen Sally’s degenerate father is murdered. Rookie detectives Carl Williams and Frank Lewis are on the case.

Kay had zero friends at her ’74 introduction and moving forward, due to her selfish nature, bitterness and alcoholism. It would be impossible for her to invite Jennifer to lunch or bring her flowers, unless she thought Jennifer could somehow assist her in holding on to Phillip or Derek. There was backstory that Kay was friends with Dina Abbott, but I picture it was a superficial booze-fueled connection Kay’s first true friend, where Kay gave without expecting something in return, might be Liz in the late 70s. If not Liz, it would be Nikki.

There’s the classic unanswered question from Abby to Gary mid-Season 2 “Are you ready for me now Gary?” 😄🤣 which could have been interpreted multiple ways. It took a season for that to pay off. Personally I liked the slow burn… whether intentional or not by the writers.
