  1. I agree. I mostly posted it for the pertinent quote.
  2. I like ASIB, but coronating it with performance favoritism is a bit much. (I also think that though it's very well performed and shot it's not the best of the year)
  3. IMO, BR and Green Book being nommed is the more conservative bloc of older Academy voters reacting to the last several years: 2016 writ large. Vice seems to have a mixed reception and I'll see it soon, but despite a great cast I'm not sure what more it can tell us about the 2000s that we don't know. I also think many of those voters find it very comfortable to dwell on the less complicated political times (i.e., 'who didn't hate Dubya/Cheney?'). In its own likely unintentional way, for the Academy it's a 'safe' film - and I don't think McKay's The Big Short was.
  4. It's a disgrace that BR is nominated. Not only is it co-directed by a monster, it's mediocre fluff.
  5. I like Joe a lot and always have. I think he's done a lot for this country. I also think he has a lot of sins in his past which are magnified in today's climate, and not all of them are overblown. I do think most of the venom towards him is performative, OTT and not representative of the larger electorate. I think it's a mistake for Joe to run. The time has passed and he will be exposing himself, his record and his future legacy in dangerous ways. I do think he absolutely should be out there campaigning vigorously for someone else.
  6. I don't think they really gave him much to work with. I wouldn't be surprised to see him hit it big on some cable or streaming thing in future.
  7. It's too soon for me to wig out about the primary. So far I'm seeing content and substance rise a bit more to the top, which is nice and unexpected. Whether that lasts remains to be seen. And I think it's better to get the crap about Harris, Gillibrand, etc. out of the way now vs. later.
  8. Oh for the love of God.
  9. Hey, it's a good choice!
  10. I had no idea this was happening: Master of Dark Shadows, a massive new doc about DS and Dan Curtis, narrated by Ian McShane.
  11. I respect Gillibrand for owning her record.
  12. Weak:
  13. The statement is very cagey, and Jason Leopold has long had a very iffy reputation. But I think it's more likely the info came from SDNY, which does leak, not Mueller's people. I suspect the story is true, but how much that'll matter in 24 hours remains to be seen due to some poor checking on the writers' part. What does matter is Mueller is continuing, and Cohen will be in a public hearing in a couple weeks.
