He also became infamous for tearing up and crying on-air after Trump's first State of the Union(?) last year and saying "this is the moment Trump became president!" That's what lost me completely. It's sad because he used to do good work.

My understanding of the 'purple wave' reports (especially the NBC one) is that they are skewed to traditionally Republican-leaning areas and/or older voters - not an accurate reflection of the full picture, which still leans heavily blue. It's just another way for media to pump up the beloved 'horse race' narrative while eliding the facts. But we shouldn't get complacent.

I have always wanted to see her on a soap again. But I know she's got much bigger things to do.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Barbara Crampton is extremely busy in horror films these days, to her credit. I wouldn't blame her for not being interested, though she still speaks very fondly of the soaps. (She is also featured on the latest series of SyFy's excellent horror anthology Channel Zero.)

I like prematurely aged Broderick for Jackie and I won't hear a word against it! I wonder if he replaced the previously-announced Steve Zahn.

I honestly love that idea for Jackie. Broderick also projects older than both Gilbert and Goranson to me.

She did - they weren't always great hires, but she did. One hire allegedly led to the infamous "Who Jackie?" meme Norm Macdonald spawned years ago which... I am not linking to, but good luck down that rabbit hole. And I'm not excusing that awful behavior. She was a terror to deal with. But she also, for better or worse behavior, made the show what it became. Her attention to detail, even her mania over it often helped the legitimacy of the scripts and characters. Until it didn't and became toxic.

I don't disagree with a lot of what you're saying, Khan, but in fairness Roseanne usually was the de facto female showrunner at the old show. Her word was law at the show above all, and she dumped countless EPs. She also did employ a lot of women and yes, a fair few minorities in the writers' room - not enough, but more than was the norm I believe for the late '80s through the early-mid '90s on a hit network sitcom not belonging to FOX. I also felt that for the first 4-5 years the minority presence on the show was pretty solid - again, for the times and a show of that era. James Pickens, Adilah Barnes, etc. all recurred often. Was it perfect? Absolutely not. But it also sure wasn't Full House or Friends or Coach - or even Cheers.

Lecy talks her reaction to what happened with Roseanne - 'we're screwed': I understand her conflict on Roseanne (who she's known since childhood) and not wanting to believe that woman is a racist while acknowledging the vile racism of her statement - I don't agree with it, but I get it. I personally think Roseanne has become a racist for a variety of reasons while still holding many contradictory ideas in her mind, and I think it's sad. And I'm not surprised that they haven't spoken since.

I think Seasons 6 and even 7 have some good stuff. I think 7-8 are mostly a wash with a few exceptions. I think the show always chafed at the traditional sitcom stuff in S1. It's fine, but it's not as good as it started to become by the end of the year going into Season 2. As for Jackie, I know they were hoping to get Clooney to do another return as Booker last season and I still hope they can. I do wonder if we'll get to see Lonnie or Crystal's son with Ed (I can't remember the name - Ed Jr.?). It wouldn't surprise me since they've already dug as deep as Chuck and Anne-Marie. Last I recall seeing Lonnie was in the ep when Dan and Ed reconciled in... Season 7?

He's better than he used to be; his scene with Dan last season alluding to his PTSD and talking about the VA was pretty good. I like him so much IRL that I'm fine with him getting more with Geena and the kid going forward even if he's a little dodgy. Incidentally, future developments with D.J., Geena, etc. can be seen here: A BTS featurette:

The press seems to like the premiere/revamp a lot, so I don't think it's that. I do think the tone of the coverage on the numbers has fluctuated and shifted from negative to more positive. Social media, OTOH, has been inundated with right wing attacks on it by trolls/Russians. I think that will die down in time.

And in fact, the last pill stash Darlene found in the icebox is the exact same one Roseanne was shown to have hidden from Dan last season, after he thought he'd found them all.

I think Nancy appeared once at a ladies' poker game IIRC, talking about her latest girlfriend. I don't know if she'd appear again, as Sandra Bernhard was very vocally fed up with Roseanne's RL antics after what happened with the cancellation. I hope so. I don't remember seeing Leon at all. Did that happen? I'd like to see him at least once, yes, for Mark.
