Janet Fielding (more added as possible): I think the Capaldi era was largely excellent and still underrated, but I do think by the end it was time for a change from Moffat (just not Chibnall). I also liked Bill a lot, but I don't think they needed to do another improbably happy ending for a companion where a death is inverted just like Clara's. I will agree the Chibnall companions are total ciphers. It is not a coincidence that the only actors that have managed to break out a little in the current era are established performers with their own preexisting name brands - Bradley Walsh and John Bishop.

Just now on the BAFTA red carpet with Gatwa and RTD. Seems he may go blond. He's known since February. Shades of Matt Smith - RTD says Gatwa was their last audition and 'stole it'. IIRC Smith did something similar from out of nowhere.

Gatwa may be presenting at the BAFTAs tonight, possibly with Jodie Whittaker. From RTD:

@DRW50 He's here. Gatwa is also queer.
  9. She looks amazing in everything she's been in lately.
  10. Good to know. Meanwhile, as alluded to above:
  11. Oh, he did a great job. And he was in so much other excellent stuff.
  12. And VM only quit at the time because they wouldn't give her some time off or a lighter schedule for her then-very-small child. I don't know how she survived that schedule tbh.
  13. I also like RSW. Always have, even back on AMC. He is no thespian but he has a certain intensity which works for him. I blame RC.
  14. I think she's always been way ahead of the show tbh. She's a better actress than the genre these days IMO. I'd still try to secure her for Serena on GH though.
  15. Ellen Wheeler was incompetent and unstable, and not fit to run GL. No amount of years she spent winning hearts playing Marley on television will change that. I liked her as an actress. As an EP, she turned GL into something just above snuff film. And that's before I even get started on her, uh, mentor, who went from being hailed for giving AW a graceful exit and revitalizing ATWT to running it into the ground for years, to say nothing of whatever the hell he did to Martha Byrne which she still doesn't openly speak about.
  16. I think some part of Kim was more comfortable in the stripped down stuff tbh. In her memoir she freely admits she 'let myself go' physically and stopped caring about how she looked due to depression over the state of the show at the time, and I think she may have said she was also been undergoing menopause somewhere in that decade but I can't recall the timeline. But I think stripped of so much of the tacky Rauch, etc. artifice on an aimless and often plotless show, her real grit and character came out again onscreen. And I don't think she was super bitter to be shed of the ridiculous fantasy/royal palace storylines, if nothing else.
  17. The lighting is rough and I have zero interest in Crystal Chappell's vanity webseries, but I'm not gonna hate on Zimmer or RN. I think he looks good, and Kim is letting herself age naturally and not chasing the sexpot stuff they put her through in the late '90s and early 2000s which didn't suit her at all and which even then she frankly did not have the looks for. IMO her performances leveled up considerably from the Rauch era in the last, sad years of GL while the rest of the show went to hell, and a big part of that was because she (by her own admission) stopped caring about how she looked and the scripts were a mess, so she just went off raw talent. She never reminded me more of a British soap matriarch than she did in those days. She still does.
  18. Oh, I like Robin fine. I think she is good as Skye and should've returned to AMC long ago, which is her best possible place. I do think she has a specific range and should not be the frontburner be-all end-all of a show though, and when she is the cracks show and she starts camping it up even more than usual. Her role on GH is intolerable and pointless when she's on contract, but good when she comes in and out for stints to make trouble for people to renew RC's health insurance, which she hasn't done in about a decade now but I wish she would pay another visit, bring her daughter and make more trouble. Most of the new women on the show make Skye look like Laura Spencer. That's as far as I take it.
  19. The Rae story was worse than that. She was on every soap and literally had no concept of either the age or sex of her child. She went from every ABC soap wondering if her child was everyone from twentysomethings Eve and Sophia on PC and OLTL, to fortysomething Max Holden. It was completely ridiculous.
  20. I vocally resented Skye's presence on GH at MBTV/TWOP for many, many years lol
  21. Barbara Crampton (Y&R, GL) will be appearing on the livestreaming aftershow for the public broadcast of the third episode of the new season of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on their new Gizmoplex platform, on May 7th. She starred with DOOL's Lisa Rinna in "Robot Wars," which is the film being riffed on in the episode. "Robot Wars" was mentioned in this thread before when the episode first debuted for Kickstarter backers, but the public event is coming up and Crampton will be appearing with the show's stars during the stream.
  22. Of course not! I was thrilled to see her in the weeds lol.
  23. If that were true, Marco Rubio would be in office. The American media is an important and dangerous wurlitzer when used for the wrong things, and it often has the wrong priorities these days. But it's not all powerful and we need to stop insisting that every time it jumps on a bad frame that this frame is going to be automatically successful with the public 90 seconds after it appears. Because many of those frames and bad media takes simply don't take off. That doesn't mean we stop calling them out or combating it, it simply means not assuming they are baked in with the public, will sway millions and win the day for them beforehand while also doing the work to make sure to push back.
  24. More like that's all they cared to give her. JFP had very little control after Guza returned, AFAIK. That's why Skye was left to various B-C characters after Luke (and after Alcazar was downgraded to placate Maurice).
