  1. Thanks for posting this! It seems that Mary put a lot of herself into the role of Jo. Both were kind, compassionate, involved in social causes, trying to make the world a better place. God rest her.
  2. All I could find out about Maggie/Laura was that the storyline with them aired sometime in 1980. I'll try to find out more.
  3. Bambi Brewster - sounds more like the name of a porn star and not a soap character! Did she really monopolize the show in those last few months on the air?
  4. Thanks for sharing that article. I wonder if she still struggles with chronic pain today...it sounds like she was really put through the wringer.
  5. I'm surprised NOW wasn't picketing the OLTL studios and/or ordering fans to boycott.
  6. Simply the best from some of the genre's best actresses.
  7. Speaking of Mark Rydell, here is a funny anecdote I read in Paul Denis' book, Inside the Soaps (published circa 1985): "Don MacLaughlin (Chris Hughes on As the World Turns) recalls the time Jeff Baker (played by Mark Rydell) was missing in the story line...and everyone was trying to find him. MacLaughlin received a letter from a woman who revealed that she had just seen Jeff Baker leaving the 58th Street Library and was going to phone the police, but then reconsidered and was notifying MacLaughlin first." LOL
  8. I remember the Taggert/Dara/Justus triangle. It was an intriguing premise - Taggert the cop vs. Justus, legal counsel to "Anger Boy", battling for the heart of the DA/singer. As I recall, Vanita Harbour (Dara) was pregnant in real life at the time and once she went on maternity leave, any momentum the triangle was starting to have just stalled. That was also around the same time Joseph C. Phillips was on his way out the door, and then the whole story was dropped. A couple of years later, Taggert was placed in another potential love triangle with AJ and Hannah, which didn't fare any better. No wonder Real Andrews eventually walked after years of loyal service to GH.
  9. Then he hired Susan Flannery for B&B...
  10. The Chi-Lites episode is probably my favorite of the season so far. God bless Marshall Thompson, still leading the group since its inception in the late 1950s, and still smiling despite the fact that after a 1997 concert at the World Trade Center (if that isn't chilling enough), the group was on its way home when the vehicle they were in flipped over on the interstate. One of the group members was ejected from the car but recovered from his injuries - but the other passenger ejected was mortally wounded. She was Marshall Thompson's wife. He is happily remarried now - but wow. Fellow founding member and the group's primary songwriter, the late Eugene Record, penned "Have You Seen Her?" about his dissolving marriage to his first wife. He wrote "Oh Girl" to the woman who would become his second wife (and remained so until he passed in 2005).
  11. Next thing you know, some current NFL players will be using that episode as an excuse. "The Manning Defense", anyone?
  12. Didn't he even sock Tea in the face in one episode? I'm still surprised OLTL got away with that one.
  13. That's my feeling, too. Too bad she isn't on a soap now - I think she would be an asset to whoever would hire her. She could always go back to DAYS, GH or Y&R even as a brand-new character.
  14. That's possible, because for years the only show I'd ever seen her on was DAYS (in the pre-YT era).
  15. I recall reading in an SOD article from about a decade ago, Tuc Watkins said that he was delivering some serious monologue when, without watching where he was going, walked directly into a table. He said something along the lines of that's where the character clicked for him, and that David was a character "who thinks he's dark and mysterious but is really a buffoon".
  16. Seeing JLB in these scenes and watching her stint on DAYS years later (which I believe spanned 1993-99 and 2010), it's like watching two completely different actresses. Her Lorie was such a mover and a shaker, and wasn't afraid to use both her brains AND her body to her advantage. Her Laura on DAYS was such a drugged-out victim. Not that I'm blaming her (I blame JER and his writing staff), but DAYS just didn't play to her strengths. They could've done so much with JLB and wasted her instead.
  17. Well, David did have a richer character history than Ivan, but it largely went wasted.
  18. Jamie was married to both Cecile and Blaine. Rachel couldn't stand either of them. I agree about Laura Malone - one of the great underrated actresses in the history of soap.
  19. Thank you very much!! Rod Arrants did two fairly recent "Where Are They Now?" interviews with SOD, the first in July 2008 and the other in February 2010. Do you have any SODs that recent? One of the periods of SFT I would most like to see is 1978 where Sherry Mathis first came on and the time she shared with Michael Nouri, Anne Wyndham and Joel Higgins briefly overlapped before that trio left the show the same year. Which month in 1978 did Sherry make her SFT debut, and which month did the other three leave? Thanks again!!!!
  20. Not to mention her GH role as the second Tammy, the hooker turned proprietor of Kelly's after Ruby's passing - though I liked the first actress better in the part.
  21. Carl, would you by any chance have Rod Arrants' interview with TV Guide from August 1979 in your collection? Any interviews/articles you would have on him and/or Sherry Mathis, or the love story of Liza and Travis that you may have and are willing to post would be greatly appreciated!!
  22. No matter how many writers/producers there were, the Bob/Susan affair was never forgotten, Kim never forgot it, and therefore the audience never forgot it. At least that was ONE point of continuity that went on until the end.
  23. Those scenes between Beverlee McKinsey and Vincent Irizarry are pure gold. No wonder to this day he sings her praises and credits her with helping him grow as an actor.
  24. Besides, that's a candid taken at the beach - not a photo shoot. She looks perfectly natural and healthy for her age.
