  1. I think the exception to the rule was Douglass Watson as Mac Cory on AW, who was still front-burner when he unexpectedly passed away in the spring of 1989 at age 68. He was still the male centerpiece of AW. Now, had he lived, who knows how long that would have lasted, especially when (shudder) JFP took the reins. Still, he showed that viewers - including the ones in the coveted young demographics - enjoyed watching the older, seasoned characters and the actors who played them. Too bad the knuckleheads in charge still don't get it (or more likely, just don't care), stuffing Barbies and himbos down our throats. ATWT had plenty of actors who were on the show for many years and could have carried story until the very end.
  2. I don't know if there was trouble with him and Audrey Hepburn. In the same ET interview I mentioned, which took place in 1993 (he passed in 1994) not long after she had passed away, the ET reporter asked him for comment. He said he couldn't talk about it because it upset him so much. He had tears in his eyes while he said that.
  3. I think this Norman guy is going to figure out what happened between Nick and Althea - and he's going to wear Liz down to do it. I hope Liz will reconsider and move back in with Carolee. Also, I like the fact that she doesn't take what happened with Steve at the end of their date night out on Liz or blames her for it. Also, Ruth needs HELP and FAST!!! Her accosting that pregnant lady was truly disturbing.
  4. God rest Michelle Thomas...taken away too young.
  5. Wasn't Ms. Faversham played by the same actress who played Daphne's mom on Frasier?
  6. It's a shame they killed off both her GL and OLTL characters. Wasn't she on a web soap later?
  7. He was just on TODAY at the end of July, not even three months ago, promoting the 25th anniversary of Weekend at Bernie's.
  8. Poor Allen Ludden indeed - from everything I've read and heard, he was nothing but a gentleman and a professional. I wonder if he had any other problems with celebrity contestants on his show.
  9. Carolee Campbell is indeed a joy to watch! Her character is really the only one who is just like an everyday person, who the viewers would want to be friends with. She is generous, kind, funny and also not afraid to speak her mind. Plus, when she falls in love - she falls hard!!! Speaking of Carolee Campbell, wouldn't it be awesome if Retro TV rounded up her, Liz Hubbard, Pamela Toll, Terry Kiser and Laryssa Lauret to do promo spots? MeTV has done that with cast members of vintage shows. I wonder how many of the still-living cast members from that era other than Liz Hubbard are aware that TD is airing again.
  10. I have heard from ONE person who had an enjoyable working experience with George Peppard - Maylo McCaslin (Sally Taylor, SB, 1984-85). She said on FB that she loved working with him on The A-Team and that while all the cast was great to her, Mr. Peppard was her favorite and took her under his wing. It was no secret that he had a major problem with alcohol - but when interviewed by ET towards the end of his life, he was honest about it. He seemed to have mellowed a bit by then, having married his last wife. She wasn't in show business - I believe she was a realtor or a broker.
  11. The first episode featured an explosive, juicy scene with Althea, Nick and Liz. I was surprised Althea didn't haul off and slap Liz!! Wasn't that creepy reporter (Nathan Bunker) on one of these episodes before? He's one of those guys you would cover your face and cross the street to avoid. Surprised he isn't a lawyer. LOL I didn't recognize Faith Catlin - I'll have to go back and watch it again. I also enjoyed seeing those vintage M&M and Colgate ads - especially since Colgate owned the show. I read that NBC bought the show in 1980, but Colgate-Palmolive still remained its top sponsor.
  12. That sounds like an interesting book - I'll have to see if my library system carries it.
  13. The CBS promo for its soaps in 1968 is the only color clip of TSS that I've seen.
  14. It seems that SFT's Chuckie ended up on the Island of Misfit TV Characters with Chuck Cunningham, Judy Winslow, Carl Dixon, Bobby Martin, etc. LOL
  15. Thanks. For some reason, I had always thought Rosemary Prinz was the only Penny.
  16. Did the character get an actual exit or did she just fade off into oblivion?
  17. Was Jeff Ryder still writing the show then or did he leave when Pam Long did (the first time she left, I mean)?
  18. Today's episodes (SPOILERS): I loved the little scene in the first episode of Carolee and Liz in the elevator, chatting about doing each other's hair, making brownies and going to a really bad movie - and how much they enjoy being roommates. It's fun seeing Liz in those carefree moments, and shows that Pamela Toll can play light scenes as well as the heavy drama. Her panic attack in the staff cafeteria with Nick being at the next table and John encouraging her to stay, concentrate on her food and look neither to the right or left was a great scene. Of course, she didn't listen, but his and Carolee's concern for her was very apparent. She's lucky to have friends like them. I also felt John's agony being stuck in the clinic all day with Karen. Poor thing, I would have felt the same way. I could tell he was counting the minutes when he learned Maggie would be back the next day. LOL On to the second episode. Maggie's back and not a moment too soon!! For now, she is still being played by Bethel Leslie. We get our first glimpse of little Greta, an adorable little girl with long hair. Matt is still oblivious about Dr. Karen Werner's feelings for him, but his lovely wife sure isn't!! I love the way Maggie's eyes were like daggers when she looked at Karen throughout the episode. It was funny when John was so relieved to see Maggie enter the clinic. Now that both of them know the truth about Althea, it will be interesting to see how the news will travel - especially to Nick. I can't be alone in thinking the scenes with Polly just drag on. They could be cut in half and still get the point across. I wonder how much longer she'll be on. BLOOPER ALERT: Watch closely in the second episode when John enters Matt's office. You will see one of the cameras in the shot for about two seconds.
  19. Yeah, I too loved Althea getting riled because Nick wouldn't face any consequences because he was a man!!
  20. I know that Antenna TV showed reruns of Hazel and Bachelor Father (I don't know if they still do). I do know for a fact that the INSP Channel shows The Big Valley reruns.
  21. Was she the only actress to play Penny?
  22. As iconic as John Forsythe was as Blake Carrington, he will always be first and foremost Charlie Townsend to me!!!!
  23. That's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure. Thanks. I'm still trying to find out when Maggie returns.
