ALL: Temporary Replacements
That's horrible. At least years later, AW had the good sense not to do the same thing to Judi Evans.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
I seem to remember that Terry Davis was also canned from AW in the early 80s for not dropping her post-pregnancy weight as fast as the producers wanted her to. In the story, Sandy and Blaine Cory did have a baby - was Laura's pregnancy written into the show or did their baby come before Laura became pregnant IRL?

First episode today - everybody get ready to groan. Guess who's back from Europe!! I laughed out loud when Maggie and Steve were working in the clinic, and he said he'd have to turn the heat up as the temperature in the room had become freezing. The look on Bethel's face was absolutely priceless!!! On the upside, Steve was reading a postcard from Cousin John, who is now visiting France and having a wonderful time. Liz seemed happy for him. Speaking of which, those two sure aren't doing much to be discreet, are they? I already feel so bad for Carolee. Second episode - we finally learn what the Andersons - or shall we say, MR. ANDERSON - has against doctors. I wonder if this was the first time a story on that issue had been done on a soap. I don't think even GH touched that subject.

You're not too terribly far - the nieces show up at the end of February/beginning of March. You'll be seeing more and more of Steve as he is assigned more responsibilities at the hospital, and Nick does get better as time goes on - especially as he is assigned the case of a most unusual surgical patient. Bill and Ruth Winters do reach an understanding and they receive a special gift. Meanwhile, enjoy Bethel while you still can because we're in the April episodes now, and she leaves the show for good when in August, Lydia Bruce takes over the role of Maggie (and keeps it until the show ends in 1982). It's been said here that Bethel went out to Hollywood to make a movie, taking a leave of absence, but then decided to stay in CA for good. Good news - I have found a fan mail address for Liz Hubbard, at a talent agency in NYC. I was doing some searching on Google when I found a fan mail address website for various stars. I called the Sullivan Talent Group in NYC myself to make sure the address was still valid and they still represent her. The gentleman I talked to (who was VERY nice) said yes, they still represent Liz and that fans are welcome to send her letters c/o their agency. If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll share the address. I sent out my letter the other day, and I'll let you all know whether or not I hear back from her!!!

Love Is a Many Splendored Thing
Was this show a NYC or LA based soap? I want to say NYC, but the soap was set in CA (San Francisco), so I'm not positive.

You're so right; I had forgotten about the whole Blaine recast fiasco. What a horrible thing to do to Laura Malone - but she had the last laugh as she is now a successful lawyer.

Thank you! I believe Greenlee's mother Mary was in that scene as well.

Well, Liz didn't pay the delicious/handsome young intern any attention, and now he's in Europe with a lovely young lady who does. Liz's loss was definitely Bonnie's gain!!!

ALL: Temporary Replacements
Other than TD's Lydia Bruce, did anyone start off as a temp recast and become a permanent one?

What year was the Thanksgiving episode where during the blessing, Myrtle prayed, "Dear Lord, if there's ever a group that needed thy blessing, it's us"? That line was priceless and delivered as only Eileen Herlie could.

Thank you, MissLlanviewPA. I was watching a scene between Marty and Dylan from 1997 when they were ending their marriage and he mentioned "Darlene". At first, I had no clue who he was talking about. LOL

Not much happened in the episodes aired today - except that the barracuda is on her way back. Matt - if you cherish your wife and see how upset she is - ARRANGE FOR KAREN TO GET A NEW PLACE TO LIVE!!! He gets it but doesn't get it. If I was Maggie I'd be upset, too. Hopefully there will be more action tomorrow - I'm still sorry about missing out on the Althea vs. Steve and Liz confrontation. I'm sure that was awesome.

Thanks for catching us up, robbwolff!!! Dang, I wish I'd seen those scenes with Steve - especially Althea letting him have it!!! He and Liz are really walking on thin ice. Not that I'm any fan of Karen's, but she did take time off for her father's funeral, for pete's sake. As for John - have they mentioned hearing from him or what he's been doing in Europe? I really do miss him.

WOW!! That's quite a lineup. Hopefully they can get Emma Samms so both Fallons and both Stevens could be there!!

Bummed that we missed a good chunk of the first episode - though what can you do if the power goes out? It looks like we got a pretty good recap on some of the more important things in the second episode. I'm seeing more and more why Althea and Nick were such a popular couple back in the day. The chemistry between Liz Hubbard and Gerald Gordon was absolutely electric. We haven't even seen them kiss yet!! Come to think of it - we haven't seen many kisses outside of Dr. and Dr. Powers, have we? The only other ones I can think of were Bill and Ruth Winters, John and Bonnie, and of course the one between Steve and Liz in the doctors' lounge that was interrupted by John's arrival.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
SFK, I can't even imagine Tim Stickney without the dreads. Those were his trademark!! LOL I always found him and Nathan Purdee very believable as brothers on OLTL. Dang, THAT'S Patrick Muldoon? Yikes. What happened???

How long was he a temp? What happened to Michael Tylo at that time?

I was wondering about his accent. Thanks for sharing the info. Also, I wonder if the daytime programming across the board was preempted for the funerals of MLK and RFK. I'm pretty sure they probably were. On a lighter note, did anyone else giggle at the "spoon" line in today's second episode? But I am glad that Nick is willing to give Ed a chance. Yup, Carolee still has it bad for the bad boy!! Actually, it's a good thing she found him instead of Liz. He'd probably try for a quickie right then and there!!

Thank you for sharing the story!! I would like to read La Lucci's memoir. My local library does have a copy, but it's the first edition before AMC was cancelled. I want to read the updated version where she rips Frons up one side and down the other.

Another irony that has cracked me up - Steve grumbling that John Rice owes him a million hours of sleep. Dr. "All Rich" (as Dr. Bellini has so eloquently called him) has led a very charmed life, while his cousin lived on practically no sleep and lots of coffee but still did his job efficiently. Now he is enjoying a well-deserved inheritance of a trip to Europe to have fun, with a certain pretty girl at his side. Apparently, Dr. Steve doesn't like the shoe on the other foot!! LOL

Bill Conti was one of the greatest musicians to score for TV shows, ever. I rank him up there with the likes of Mike Post (though he wrote themes for action/adventure shows and not for primetime soaps, but you get my point).

Yeah, I remember Louise Sorel was on OLTL in 1987, and Susan Marie Snyder had recently left as Laken #2. I just wasn't sure if either LS or Shell Danielson (Laken #3) were there when JW came on. Thanks for clarifying.
