  1. What a great anniversary article. Love Jacquie's white gown and matching feather boa.
  2. It's a shame SB never really gave Todd McKee/Ted a great story to do. He was young, effervescent, handsome and could actually act. With the possible exception of Hayley, I wasn't crazy about any of Ted's romances but thought he was terrific as the youngest Capwell sibling (though in reality he was actually a couple of years older than Robin Wright).
  3. According to my DVR, the remaining two episodes of UH's second season will air back to back on Wed. 3/25: Richard Roundtree at 8 PM EST and Baby Boy at 9 PM EST.
  4. Do you think Mary might have had a chance if the character had been recast with an actress already established in soaps (like Pamela Toll) as opposed to virtual unknowns (as Carney, Tolan and Goulet all were at the time)? Or was it a lost cause no matter what since KM was so established in the role?
  5. Starting on March 30th, Retro TV will begin airing reruns of Police Surgeon, also known as Dr. Simon Locke (1971-1974). Sam Groom, AW's Dr. Russ Matthews from 1966-1971, played the lead role. Here's more info about it from RTV's website: http://www.myretrotv.com/news/retro-tv-adds-police-surgeon
  6. Those are great - thanks. SantaBarbaraNBC, do you also have Episode 168 (the introduction of Carmen Castillo and Brick officially moving into the Perkins house)? That's another one I've never seen the entire episode.
  7. I wonder if the FLD specials were released to schools and such for educational purposes. Of course, back then they probably were on film reels and shown on projectors...I wonder who would be the person/company to ask if they are still in existence. Anyway, here is a review of the first of the three FLD specials - the one about the Jacksons that won Gerald Gordon an Emmy as the 7th President. TD is also represented by David O'Brien and Armand Assante. There's a photo of GG and Fran Brill in character: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1982&dat=19750412&id=z7pGAAAAIBAJ&sjid=9TMNAAAAIBAJ&pg=3585,2169765 The photo is a bit clearer here: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1734&dat=19750418&id=IeAbAAAAIBAJ&sjid=2lEEAAAAIBAJ&pg=2619,4213227
  8. sungrey - yes, I have heard the original ominous piano theme from the CBS era. "The EDDDDGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGE Of Night!!!"
  9. OK - how do you think things would have worked out in the story had ABC taken the advice of Labine/Mayer and killed off Mary when KM left?
  10. That I am not surprised to hear at all. So sad. Ever since I was a little girl, I've had a fascination with the Presidents and First Ladies, which is another reason why I want to see these so much. The Jackson marriage, especially, was an incredible love story. Seeing paintings and such of the 7th President, it is no wonder Gerald Gordon was cast to play him. There's a definite resemblance.
  11. Do you remember where you read that, khan? Interesting story.
  12. Thank you so much for sharing that article, Carl. Yes, it was very interesting to read her side of the story - and it was sad that she never showed up on-screen again. It appears that she quit show business altogether when she got fired from AW.
  13. By the way, Paul Raven, thanks for posting the photos. I can see why GG was cast as Andrew Jackson in the First Ladies Diaries: Rachel Jackson (opposite Fran Brill). I would LOVE to see that special (which also features David O'Brien) and the Edith Wilson one starring Liz Hubbard. Also on my wish-to-watch list is Carolee Campbell's swan song to acting, the daytime special This is My Son. GG, LH and CC all won Emmys for those specials. I wonder if those specials are still in existence somewhere. No luck on YT and the like, but I'll keep looking!!!
  14. She was? Dang, I missed it. I'll have to see if it's online somewhere.
  15. Who could have guessed back then that Frisco and Felicia's portrayers would have an even stormier soap opera off-screen?
  16. Yes, there are those characters that can really only be played by one actor. Some roles can be recast successfully and others can't. There are some actors who can be the only ones to truly do justice to a role. Gerald Gordon as The Doctors' Nick Bellini is another example.
  17. The last few episodes have just been glorious. This may have been the most beautiful soap wedding I've ever seen, with the possible exception of Eden/Cruz's 1988 gala on SB, which was treated with as much fanfare as these nuptials from 1968 were. The costumes worn by the wedding party...*sigh*. They could be worn today and still look as timeless as ever. My hat's off to the cast and crew - especially the set designers and costumers - who pulled together and gave the viewers one heck of a great event. Who would have guessed that a new generation would be falling in love with these two all over again over 45 years later?
  18. Thanks again, Carl. Please post any more Gerald Gordon GH articles you can find when you can. I understand GH signing him in 1976 away from TD, NBC and the East Coast was a HUGE coup for the show and ABC. Unfortunately for them, it doesn't seem like lightning struck twice and his GH character was nowhere near as popular as Dr. Nick Bellini had been.
  19. I have no idea, although copyrights is certainly an option. What a headache. Their FB page is no help, either. No, I didn't hear about that Angie Stone story. YIKES!
  20. The only Mary recast that may have had a chance (if she had lasted long enough) was Mary Carney. She had some of the same vocal inflections and mannerisms as Kate, and she also bore a striking resemblance to her screen mom Helen Gallagher.
  21. Thank you! I'm looking forward to it. :-D
  22. Steve must have a thing for music boxes, as he also gave Carolee one for Christmas nearly a year ago (their time) - and of course, got the mobile for the baby's crib. I love the "wedding invitation" that Retro TV put on its FB page. Susan, I think that was an actual church and not a set. The acoustics sounded different than they would on a TV soundstage. If it really was a church, I wonder which one they used (obviously it was somewhere in NYC). Again, I love how Lakin/Edelstein have taken us through the Althea/Nick relationship of 1968. They started out the year with Althea's miscarriage and the hospital board hearing. Their love really started to bloom again in the spring after the Anderson case and hostage crisis, and then kicked into full gear with some help from the newly-arrived Penny. We saw their dinner dates (as a couple, or with Matt/Maggie or Penny), that epic, long-awaited kiss, the camping trip that went bust, Nick confiding in Matt that he was considering proposing, the actual proposal, her acceptance, telling Penny and their friends/colleagues, meeting with the minister, deciding where to go on the honeymoon, the presentation of the engagement ring, the surprise bridal shower (and the barhopping/bachelor party), shopping for wedding attire and now the rehearsal. So we have had one heck of a terrific buildup to the blessed event, and I can't wait to see the wedding episodes. We've gotten to go along for the whole ride (at least, since December 1967) and it's been a great ride to this point. No way would the soaps of now take us step by step through the whole courtship leading up to marriage. Once the wedding/honeymoon is done, I'm guessing that's when the Liz/Townsend story will take center stage, as well as the birth of the Aldrich baby (and who knows how worse the state of the Aldrich/Werner union of logic will get by then). Not to mention it will be time for the Christmas and New Year episodes before long.
  23. Great to hear. Love your avatar, by the way, applcin!!
  24. Now UH won't be on at all on 3/18. I wonder what's up...
  25. Thanks for posting that clip. The visual quality isn't great, but the sound is just fine - and that's what really matters. The way he just cries, "RACHEL!!!" gets me every time.
