B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
Stay the course! I have been going through and uploading my Y&R DVDs over the course of years while not actually watching them as I do it, and then I go back and watch in order. It's sooooo much nicer doing that. I did cheat last summer when they were rebroadcasting classics, but then I went right back to viewing in order. I'm up to end of 1988 for Y&R and 1990 for B&B and I need to get caught up by 1992 cause I went to watch them together once Sheila crosses over.

Congratulations!!! I wish I had discovered it way back then, but I really appreciate how many old threads are still archived. It's fun to go through them sometimes. The discussions here are always top notch.

So the episode posted today is definitely May 24, 1995 https://groups.google.com/g/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/c/FWPcrPDQP3I/m/BshXzv3zck8J so yesterday was May 23 and that's NOT a preemption date then. I've renamed them and put them in the May 1995 folder. I don't think there's any preemptions coming up so @soapwikijohnyou can just continue the dates from there. Maybe @YRfan23has the full 1995 preemptions list. I noticed we already have May 30 and 31 but in pretty poor VHS quality. Thanks again for uploading! They really look fantastic.

I went ahead and renamed the first two vids (it will show my name because I was the last one to edit the file, I don't mean to take credit away from you :)) and I deleted the duplicate that BoldKara pointed out. I'm not sure about "B&B Cala Classic 10-7-21 Episode 2" cause I had May 23, 1995 as a possible preemption, which would make that episode the 24th, but it definitely doesn't match the recap for May 24th. https://groups.google.com/g/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/c/FWPcrPDQP3I/m/BshXzv3zck8J So maybe once you upload tomorrow's episode we can confirm if that one is May 24. I'm also making folders because the messiness is driving me crazy.

Thank you so much! 🤩😍🥰😇 Episode 1 is May 19, 1995 and episode 2 is May 20, 1995. May 19 was in the vault, but the quality on yours is much better! I think these videos look great and the file size is perfect for me. They look just as good as videoland but without the subtitles. I'm like you, I'm waiting to watch them all at once. I just skim the episode enough to figure out the date (I watched in real time in 1995 so it's not really a spoiler, haha). It's really too bad they don't stream the videos on Cala and instead you have to do all that work. Hoping videoland gets up to that season eventually, but it's so great to have these in case they don't. Truly appreciate the work that goes into it. Same problem here, I think the video is corrupted.

@soapwikijohnthat is simply amazing! Fingers crossed it all goes well. Anyway, remember a few days ago we were talking about how some of the official YouTube B&B videos are actually partial? By some lucky coincidence, YouTube user MocksFan actually just uploaded #5592 and 5593 (Nick and Bridget's third wedding). (or if it's not coincidence and MocksFan is reading here, thank you!). @BoldKara had found the missing parts in French but now we have them in English. I went through my 2004-2009 folders and sorted all the "official" vids by length. These are the ones that are under 19 minutes. (note: Most full episodes are 21-22 minutes, but some are 30 minutes because they contain blank space for commercials. I'm assuming everything 20 minutes and up is full but doesn't have spaces, but it's possible those episodes are partial and contain space for commercials, if that makes sense - I don't have the time nor desire to open each file individually to check). Another strange thing is some episodes are longer than 30 minutes but have a lot of extra space at the end: episode 5560 is 54 minutes! Partial episodes - if any of you have them in full please upload 5042 (this is actually some weird collection of clips and not really an episode?) 4/19/2007 5071 5/31/2007 5097 7/06/2007 5391 9/04/2008 (I uploaded) 5579 6/05/2009 5580 6/08/2009 5581 6/09/2009 5585 6/15/2009 5590 6/22/2009 5591 6/23/2009 (have second half in French) 5592 (will upload Mocksfan version) 5593 (will upload Mocksfan version) 5594 6/26/2009 5595 6/29/2009 (I uploaded 5597 7/01/2009 (I uploaded) 5598 7/02/2009 (I iploaded)

50 years of soaps: An All-Star Celebration (1994)
Oh, that is so painful just to read! I can't imagine how it felt. You had mentioned losing videos on flash drives? Do you still have them? There are companies, like Drive Savers, that can recover the data, but they are very expensive. It's a matter of what those videos were worth to you. The prices are based on how large the drive was, so if it's a smaller capacity USB drive that would be much cheaper than a 2TB external hard drive or something like that. There are usually discount codes too if you get referred by a computer shop. Does that mean you have the CBS soaps as of 1995 on DVD? Did you save the shows every day?!

Thanks, since you two both agree on that I'll just rename them and move them into the 1995 folder. Taylor was presumed dead in a plane crash and discovered by Prince Omar. Meanwhile Ridge married Brooke in that sandcastle ceremony. Omar eventually discovered who she was, but she had amnesia and was known as Princess Layla. Somehow Brooke and Ridge ended up on their honeymoon at Prince Omar's castle, by now Taylor remembered who she was, but was devastated seeing Ridge with Brooke. Omar would make her watch them in the bedroom via closed circuit video. Taylor was also wearing a burqa when she interacted with them, so they didn't recognize her. Taylor decided to just stay in Morocco and marry the Prince. It wouldn't work today because it had a lot of Middle Eastern stereotypes and Taylor was locked away a la Princess Jasmine in Aladdin. Eventually Taylor goes back to LA and reveals her identity (the CALA Classics episodes that were just uploaded). What was more interesting was probably the backstage part. Hunter Tylo was co-starring in a miniseries called The Maharaja's daughter with Kabir Bedi, which is why she was temporarily written out, and why he guested on the show. I remember reading some gossip about it back then in the soap press. I didn't have the internet back in 1994 so I'm surprised it even made it into the magazines and I'm sure what made it in was the tip of the iceberg. Allegedly Hunter had an affair with Kabir, and almost got divorced. I also recall her saying something about being bitten by a snake and possessed (???) and then she became a born-again Christian after that. She also apparently was super close with Kimberlin Brown (I think they both lived in Vegas and commuted together by plane?), but they had a falling out and it was really nasty and I vaguely remember one of them was accused of keying the other's car??? And then they stopped speaking. Kimberlin and her husband also testified on Michael Tylo's behalf during a custody dispute. Some people online later speculated it was a lesbian relationship gone bad, lol. I hope I'm not the only one who remembers this stuff, haha. And after all that, Hunter went on Melrose Place and the whole Aaron Spelling lawsuit happened... she certainly has been involved in her share of drama.

If ANYONE here has VHS tapes that you need help digitizing, please send me a PM or email (same username as here at gmail). I've done it for people before, for free. You just have to pay the postage to mail them. For those who have a VCR and want to do it yourselves, you can purchase a kit on amazon for under $20 that will connect the VCR to your computer. It's easy. I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XP159GX/ I myself have a few that I bought on ebay and never went through. @SFK @Soapsuds @Gray Bunny we should all commit to doing it by Christmas!

The Official YouTube just published a huge batch of episodes - through June 8, 1987 (Episode 56). Time will tell if they got wise to people wanting to binge watch or if they just made a mistake. The exciting thing is once they get up to July maybe we'll finally find out the dates for each episode number (due to July 1987 preemptions). Although, once they get up to those dates a lot of newbie fans will complain that there are missing episodes because they won't realize. They should have titled them by episode number instead.

Welcome! That's awesome news. I was just thinking about Cala classics recently and how the uploader disappeared. It's great that there's someone else with access now! It sounds like unlike videoland there's no archive so no way to get those missing episodes? But still would be amazing if you could capture them going forward. I would suggest maybe to try and capture the daily episode and have the weekend marathon as a backup in case there's a problem, but if all you can do is the marathon that's perfectly fine, believe me we TRULY appreciate anything someone can give. I haven't had the chance to check out the videos yet. I would suggest using Handbrake to reencode. It's free. They have a web optimized button to check off which generates a high quality video with a reasonable file size. It would help to know exactly what your process is to capture them. I'm not familiar with ts files but Handbrake usually works with everything I've tried. I'm definitely not an expert or anything like that, but if you want to send me a PM I can do some research and try to help you figure out a solution. Welcome! That's awesome news. That is the risk/reward though.... if you don't share the link, it's less likely to get deleted, but it will always be the same couple of people uploading. If you share the link more, maybe you will find someone who saved those collections from 2007 and will upload them to the vault. For example a poster here reached out to Nikki N and she ended up sharing quite a bit of good stuff. I try to leave messages to people who seem to be fans and would have things to share. I found some really nice people that way. It's also extremely important when finding new stuff to download it right away, back it up and share it with trusted individuals who can also save the videos for the community. It's much better to have multiple people having that set of videos on their hard drive just in case something happens. That's why the Vault is so brilliant, God forbid it does go down, there would many people here who have the full set of 1987-1992 saved and we could always piece it back together again. Yeah I usually ask people to PM/email me (since YouTube doesn't have PM). The other thing I do is send the link to the Vault's twitter page https://twitter.com/yrvault, so they can see it's a real thing, cause I feel like if I just send that "bit.ly" link people might think it's a scam lol.

Good find! And I noticed that French page has 5591 so I checked the English version and that is also partial. WTF! Why would the B&B channel name them "Official Full Episodes" if they are clips ranging from 6-10 minutes? I knew there were episodes missing but I thought at least what was there was complete... but at least we have the missing pieces in French (didn't see 5591 on the English playlist either). It was great. Brooke's character was already too fargone after she slept with Thorne. It made sense to go to the next level by having her screw Deacon. There were was no dignity to lose. Classic B&B soapy stuff.
