  1. 40 years later, I just realized how dumb the core concept of the show was. Why would a law firm in a large city contain criminal defense attorneys, civil litigants, entertainment contract specialists, and divorce lawyers? The idea of a big firm is that they share costs and split revenue. So, wouldn't Arnie, who was doing a two-day divorce hearing on his own, get screwed by the cost of Kuzak's seven-week criminal trial with several paid experts? And why would a lawyer negotiating a multimillion dollar film contract want to share fees with someone taking a pro bono custody case. That wouldn't happen in Podunk or LA. It's one of those things that I took for granted when I watched it, and then on further inspection, it doesn't make sense.
  2. Well, if they keep firing all the leading ladies, soon there won't be many options left.
  3. This commercial posted to Instagram by Retrosoaps made me nostalgic for what I'd hoped the advertising for The Gates would be like. That voice could excite me into watching a leaky faucet. ScreenCapture_2024-6-22 08.47.45.mp4
  4. When we reviewed the contemporary reporting by Jon Michael Reed and Linda Hirsch from the Tumblr that posted their articles, they seemed to feel that New World and NBC, not the Dobsons, were pushing to get rid of the Perkins and Andrades. The same geniuses that decided to premiere the show against the 1984 Summer Olympics, panicked when the ratings didn't improve over the first five months. Unfortunately, their solution was to get rid of any traces of ethnic or economic diversity and focus on upward mobility.
  5. Don't make me break my promise @DRW50 and I would never ask you to be unbiased. I'm just writing as someone who you interact with a few times per week, to let you know that I am sensitive to those who always make a point to mention RonC's sexuality when they criticize Leo. Obviously, none of us wish that he would've stayed closeted, but despite your examples, it is far less frequent that we question the motives of a less outspoken writer. Like when people trash Joss on GH, they don't always assume that she shares the same values as the people who write the character. Creating sympathy feels like a necessary tool when a writer chooses to invest in a long term character. Furthermore, I assume we agree that simply because a character is unpopular on social media, doesn't always translate to a production feeling that that character is not valuable to bringing in viewers. So, the focus on Leo may be relative to the amount of engagement that the character receives, and not simply because he is gay.
  6. To be clear, I don't enjoy or endorse the writing of Leo's dialogue, humor, or many of his stories. But, I don't blame the headwriter because they both happen to be gay. It is that association that sparked my ire. Because I don't think it is the duty of gay writers to only pen stories about upstanding gay men and women. And, traditionally, DAYS has had more representations of a spectrum of sexually diverse characters than most soaps. Many of which were created by this headwriter. OK, I promise I won't engage in this further because I respect that we all have different reactions.
  7. It is confusing why some people refuse to accept new information while engaging in a forum meant to exchange ideas. Just as it is a mystery why someone would claim other sources while directly quoting Wikipedia. 🤔
  8. I don't doubt him. Nor will I bore you with my opinion about repeating classic soaps. But, given that the Dobsons famously sold their interest in Santa Barbara, I wonder why he would be involved in the discussion to have it offered to a streaming service?
  9. I will cop to the fact that assumptions regarding the motives of RonC get under my skin because all we know about him is based on his caustic social media presence and his sexuality. That's my pet peeve, and I understand that the sentiment is not widely shared. However, soaps are built on the idea of people being reformed by love. Leo is hardly the only example. Kristen, EJ, and Stefan engaged in non-consensual sex. Nicole stole a baby, and she murdered Deimos. Sami faked that Austin was the father of her child. And, even Julie was a shoplifter. I get the parallels to the backstage crimes, but I don't think that they are trying to justify anything by creating sympathy for Leo. I am also well aware that most of us are just letting off steam, or having fun by hating on a fictional character. But, I have to purge myself of the cringe I feel when every time Leo's possible redemption is discussed, it is frequently associated with the sexuality of the writer. Thanks for giving me a space to express my hot take. I don't need to have it validated. Nor can I be convinced to change it.
  10. Laurence Caso's Linkedin would seem to validate @TEdgeofNight's point that although he was fired from ATWT, he was never “forced” to retire from either the entertainment business or P&G in specific. His company Shoot the Catfish productions was established by the investment of P&G Although I would never presume to know him well enough to call him Laurie, it was rather simple to search beyond Wikipedia 🙄
  11. I assume you are not implying that we are all the same. Hispanic is not LatinX, which is both a cultural and political distinction, and should not be used interchangeably. In modern society, it is often considered poor form to conflate the two. To compare a person whose Jewish grandfather left Spain during the diaspora with a Mexican actor, is like saying a person from Egypt is just like someone from Greece because they are both from ancient cultures. I was referencing the fact that almost no LatinX actors have been cast as part of the Hernandez family as remarkable. I'm not making a moral judgement, I just find it an odd coincidence that it has happened four times. Hopefully that clarifies my remark, as I have no desire to debate if people whose grandparents emigrated from Cuba or Puerto Rico should identify as Latino, because that is entirely up to them. It is similar, but not exactly parallel, to the fact that Wendy Shin, a character from Hong Kong, is played by a Korean actress. DAYS PR gets a lot of milage out of having ethnically diverse characters, although they are often cast without regard to the actor's actual identity. Which, to me, smacks of paying lip service to the idea of inclusion without actually providing equitable oppertunties.
  12. From Leo's session with Marlena, I don't think that homophobia is the topic with Diana. They were discussing that she taught him that he was unlovable in general, not specific to his sexuality. From the actual episode, they talked about how Diana made him feel as if no one would ever love him, regardless of gender. It was more about his caustic and selfish nature than his desire to sleep with men. However, are they bending over backward to try to redeem him in order for him to fall in love with Mark? Of course, they are. And if they're hoping this is Emmy-bate, then I would imagine that they would avoid any inferences to homophobia being the cause of his issues with self-acceptance.
  13. It continues to be an odd choice that the Hernandez family are not cast with Latino actors. Galen Gering and Lindsey Hartley are of Jewish descent. Cherie Jimenez is Sicilian/Italian, and Puerto Rican. And Jordi Vilasuso is Cuban. Some will argue that casting should be blind, or that some of the actors are Hispanic. But you'd have to admit it is a remarkable coincidence that they could not find one culturally Latino actor in Los Angeles.
  14. Alex's about face on Theresa confuses me. Last month, they were in an open relationship because he wanted to play the field. Is this sudden urge for commitment a reaction to (a) being dumped by Kristen, (b) his breakthrough in therapy with Marlena, or (c) a plot convenience so that Theresa can finally get caught for changing the will?
  15. Once again, it's my favorite game: What time of day is it in Salem? It's after prom, which I assume is at night. But, Alex is out for a jog and the Pub is still open. Also, the hospital is still in visiting hours, and Ava just got off a flight. The lighting gives us no clues about when all of this occurs because, despite its namesake, it is never bright on DAYS. So, is it noon or is it midnight?
  16. I just read in SOD that Harris leaves to go chase after Megan. Why don't they just kill people off in Salem? OK, as I wrote that I realized that it might be because people don't stay dead on DOOL. But, I feel like if Ava had shot Harris while aiming at Clyde, that would've driven story for her and intensified her hatred of Clyde. One doubts that Burton will return to DOOL, unless he's doing charity work, so just let Harris die. I am not in favor of loose strings.
  17. To be fair, the pub barely has any customers, and those that do eat there mostly survive on coffee and chowder (which must make for some horrible breath in Salem)
  18. Another irony that I just thought of. Did Frank ever win an election and serve a full term in government? He was a perpetual candidate, but not much of a civil servant. And while everyone was telling Delia to work in order to find fulfillment, did anyone ever ask Frank to put his family before his career? I mean, the man was constantly either about to move out of New York for work or in a hospital bed recovering. Dude, get a job. #justicefordee, #respectherhustle 😉
  19. I claim no insider info, but here's my prediction. It is a perfect setup for Gwen. Xander's Mom exposes Theresa, and she gets out of Salem, just as Gwen hears that her sister is back in town Jack and Jennifer instantly accept this new Abby. Abby goes back to her old life in the mansion with Chad and the kids. Although everyone will think she's back to suffering from DID due to the trauma, which is why she forgets certain details about her old life. Leaving Gwen angry and jealous. So, she investigates, and figures out that she's a fraud (aka Mark Greene's sister). She exposes her, winning the gratitude and affection of Jack and Chad. Along the way, Mark and Leo fall in love, and Chad begins to respect Gwen's work at the paper. Abby's fake DID will also affect Everett's treatment. I assume that they'll take a page out of AMC's Laurel and say the motive for fake Abby was to pay for the care for her sister with a congenital disorder. BTW, if I've just accurately predicted the next year's worth of story, I'm going to be quite proud of myself. P.S. Chanel's going to lose the baby, which will keep them in town. She'll employ Mark's sister at the bakery and start an employment program for people with disabilities. Johnny will make a documentary about the program, and that will give him something to do.
  20. Men are issued a tux as soon as they move into any soap town. Rich or poor, it doesn't matter. From former merchant marine Bo Brady to international spy Shane Donovan, every dude has a closet full of formal attire (both black tie and white tie appropriate). Just like, every woman has a gorgeous dress on their wedding day that they've never had to shop for or go for fittings. And my favorite, there's always a bucket of fresh ice on the living room ready to make a drink at all hours of the day.
  21. It will be interesting to see if either Allie or Chanel are ever written to have a relationship with another woman again at some point in the future.
  22. Do we assume Allie and Henry are still in New Zealand? Because that movie is taking very long time to film. And, clearly, Joan Collins is the only other woman alive who could play Sami.
  23. This one had me scratching my head. Are she and Sydney still in LA? If so, why hasn't Johnny told them that he's moving back? And, of course, the larger issue that @Gray Bunny brings up, why haven't we seen him since May? Still the best complexion in the business, it looks like a filter it is so smooth Oy, I thought we were done with wishful casting after yesterday's discussion about Belle 🙄😉
  24. Speaking of Sami-like characters, I suspect there's another Greene sister on her way…
  25. How many episodes aired? And was it 3 or 5 per week?
