  1. Is it still a topic of discussion, or has the conversation evolved, regarding social media reactions to actors being cast in LGBTQ+ roles who do not identify as queer in real life? I remember there being significant debate in recent years about whether straight actors were taking opportunities away from LGBTQ+ performers, especially given the limited representation available. So, I found it interesting that a recently fired GH actress, known for playing lesbian characters in multiple projects, didn't seem to face criticism for not being queer herself. It appears that audiences are more focused on supporting lesbian love stories, regardless of the actor's personal identity. I assume we are all cool with gay actors playing straight roles. But, I am still a stickler for representation being used as opportunity for queer performers. And, I don't think it is too much to ask that at least one partner in a gay romance story be cast with a gay actor. DOOL may be worthy of criticism on many fronts, but at least they get this issue correctly most of the time.
  2. I bow to you for finding this quote, nice job! Like I mentioned, I meant no disrespect for your recall of the events. However, Labine's quote about plot flexibility for married couples turned out not to be true. I would argue that she went on to find multiple ways to write for married couples in her future writing career. But, as noted implicitly in the article, they just couldn't recover from the recasting of Mary. Certainly, Siobhan, Faith, Jill, and even Leigh, carried the torch for whatever feminist romantic heroine plots could have been written for Mary.
  3. Slight tangent, AnnaLynne's raucous rugby player boyfriend Danny Cipriani's divorce was featured in the tabloids yesterday, and they only referenced her as a former 90210 starlet, so the tabs are ignoring DAYS press releases. I recall that Steve Burton also only signed for one year, but it felt much longer. It would be nice to have a new family in Salem, but I suspect most writers want the chance to start their own legacy from scratch, like Marland did with the Snyders on ATWT.
  4. that's a shame because the site is still updated regularly including this tidbit from a production manager interview last week it is ironic, because if you think about it, there were so many more scenes of characters crowded around the front door of the Capwell house rather than in the atrium. Despite, all the pre-production publicity about the cost of the set, and faux painted tile floors that wouldn't squeak when the cameras rolled over them.
  5. Current prediction, Dr. Mark Greene tampered with fake-Abby's DNA test.
  6. I like the actress playing Jada, but I am slightly concerned that she'll be backburnered because every new regime seems to try to get rid of Rafe as their first order of business. 😉 And with new Hernandez men on the horizon, he may not be necessary as a talk-to for his sister. I also wonder if the Greene family will survive the change? They seem vital to the current Abby story, but may not have long term staying power.
  7. BTW, not just "read" the note, but discuss it, analyze it, and re-read it while he is dying on the bed six inches away 🙄 And Jada's a cop, but didn't even put on gloves when touching evidence at a crime scene. I'm only surprised that another character hasn't moved into that room already.
  8. Well, if Melinda survives then she knows the means by which Everett died and that he did not attack Rafe, so there will be some justice for Bobby.
  9. I appreciate this take because I agree that there is something intriguing about grouping a small cast into a singular workplace for interactions. It provides some conflict for Johnny and Chanel that doesn't involve a baby. And there is an opportunity to see characters share scenes that have rarely interacted in the past. We have no idea what Titan and DI do, so this is a much more understandable setting, and it feels like a low-cost approach to establish new motives. But, it elevates the most obnoxious voices on social media. RonC seems tortured by the responses to his writing, and it makes it feel as if he is chronically online like a teenager being bullied in high school. There was pre-existing conjecture about his animosity toward fans, and these "jokes" do nothing to advance sympathy for his reaction.
  10. The link seems fine - http://santabarbara-online.com/IndexSite2.htm
  11. She had a contract in the early 90s at NBC for primetime series and network movies, based upon her popularity (much like Deidre Hall, which is why I made the comparison). So, she didn't need to audition, projects were submitted. My point was that the projects presented did not expand on her talents or fit with her on-screen persona.
  12. I'd like to see that quote because it doesn't seem to fit with the facts of the events. There was plenty of conflict for Jack and Mary to be derived from Johnny's opposition to Jack, to Mary's internal discord about falling into traditional female roles within a marriage. Also, there were several couples throughout Labine's writing that maintained front burner status despite their marital status. So, even if it could be verified that she said it, it wasn't actually true. Note: I am not intending to disrespect your memory of the statement, I've just never read it in her interviews or the oral history of the soap.
  13. It is a fun theory, but I think it gives both production and social media too much credit. For example, to accept this idea, we'd have to believe that the writers and producers could predict that a certain portion of the audience would be more dismayed than they had been about other recent, and more high profile, firings. And that they would be willing to write several scenes, pay recurring actors who happen to represent the LGBTQIA community, and insert them into an episode just to appease a minority of the audience. I usually go with Occam's Razor that the simpler (and less conspiratorial) solution is most often true.
  14. So that's the first attempt at a series for her, and then Palace Guards was the second effort? It feels like neither project was developed specifically for Ms. Walker's talents or appeal; much like Deidre Hall's failed primetime series. @Efulton I have a different recollection about the Hartley brothers. Nick was not really written off, he just disappeared, like a lot of SB characters over the years. And in Page Mosely's interview on the French SB site, it seemed like his character was killed due to poor chemistry with Kelly both on and off-screen. Dylan's death jump starts the romance of Kelly and Jeffrey, but it is arguable that the pairing might have happened regardless of the actress needing time off.
  15. I would argue that there have been so many types of serial murder stories on soaps that it is impossible to lump them into a single category. For example, the Sin Stalker was told as a device to solidify Lisa and Jamie as a couple, and explore her backstory. The Loving Murders was more about the pathology of killers. Then, we had stories like The Clown Puppet murders on EON, which was before Ted Bundy and all we learned about serial killers, and was more about solving an interconnection between crimes. Because we are a specific niche of fan, we often view serial killer stories as a means to cull a large cast. But, the average casual viewer may be attracted to a plot just based on what they see on screen and the melodrama it imparts. So, for many of us, it is inextricable to read Fax Newman and not associate it with production and the firing of actresses. However, I still think there is a way of separating the entertainment value of the plot from the assumptive (and often reductive) ideas about backstage events.
  16. Can someone give me the TL:DR version of Bar Girls? Are they lawyers or bartenders (or both)? Because it is hard to believe that title made it past the first draft.
  17. After not following RonC on social media due to how he utilized the communication tool, I started following his Instagram. And now that I've seen his beach house, and his other properties, I think he's having the last laugh. It is a nice life that he has made for himself. I sincerely doubt he would work on another show because he doesn't seem to need the income from being a staff writer. That being said, I began to wonder which of his characters would survive into the next regime. I would put them into separate categories. We have legacy characters like Allie, Alex, and Johnny whose personalities have been defined by the current writing, but were already part of the cannon. Then, we've got Jada, Chanel, Paulina, and Leo who are all leading players created during his tenure. And finally, we have people like Connie who seem designed to be short term players, because they serve a specific story. I know Leo has his detractors, and so I'm not interested in responses based on people's taste or desires. But, I am honestly interested if people think that Jada, Paulina, and Chanel will be around two years from now (given that RonC has written well into 2025).
  18. Oh yeah, I just realized how stupid it is that Kayla examined Abby, and didn't notice that she doesn't have any visible signs of plastic surgery or physical trauma from an accident. I'm willing to accept a lot, but it seems like Chad's only motive for believing this is Abby is that he needs more help with childcare now that Julie is busy. And why is everyone treating Jennifer like she's a kook for not buying this story? She may be a drug abusing, accident-prone, philanderer, but she's always been a smart cookie. Also, happy 73rd birthday to Mike Horton #9, Wesley Eure.
  19. Back from vacation 4/10 Gotta love the classic trope of Connie confessing everything to her dying victim. Going on about 'here's why I did it', and 'here's how I did it'. As if explaining the motive and opportunity to the audience will help this ridiculous story make sense. It still feels as if we are blowing through plotlines, but if Connie survives this twist, I am going to be very annoyed. I'm also consistently amused that faux-Abby (Fabby?) was stuck in a rundown apartment, but she's got a heck of blow out hairdo, and some banging outfits. Didn't anyone notice her using her Amazon-prime account to buy a Dyson Airwrap and some form-fitting dresses and robes? Why doesn't anyone in the soap universe own a set of luggage? I also thought nu-Gabi knocked it out of the park today. To me, she is now officially just 'Gabi' and I am dropping the 'nu' from all further references. The specificity of Boston feels so random. We've re-established that they are close to Chicago when Johnny talked about jobs in entertainment. Yet, there seems to be an hourly shuttle between Salem and Boston where Jack, Jennifer, Bo, Hope, Shawn, Belle, Ben, Ciara, and their two kids lives. That's a lot of characters in one place off-screen. Do Mike, Nancy, Joy, Chloe, and Parker live in New York or Massachusetts?
  20. I think the only excuse is that with Tripp out of the country and Sarah incapacitated, she's the only doctor left in Salem, so she must be exhausted.
  21. Has Kayla been working at the hospital all night? Exhaustion is the only excuse why she wouldn't order x-rays or an MRI for Sarah's spine after being hit by a car. BTW, I hate temporary paralysis stories, where the character magically rises from their wheelchair due to the power of love. Also, to me, Rachel is the good kind of brat because she's self-aware of her power. While Violet's singing is enough to drive a man to drink. Is it possible that Rachel started the campaign to recall Paulina as mayor?
  22. TIL that a certain disgraced former producer directed a 2017 movie called A Million Happy Nows starring numerous DAYS actors (including Crystal Chappell & Jessica Leccia (Natalia-GL) ) https://youtu.be/MoCTH7TShww?si=vrymTKFghlJdoy8h
  23. Not even a subtle whistle, but nobody ever assumed Boebert was either demure or intellectual. " Boebert, along with 16 other members of the House of Representatives, does not have a college education" - NY Times
