  1. I have some hope that there are enough people standing against this policy to stop it. Hopefully, Trump has finally gone one step too far. Even if we win this fight we have to remember that 27% of Americans agree with this policy, which is shameful and even worse than I imagined.
  2. There is no doubt in my mind that we are going to be hearing many horror stories like this for years to come. It's also so unnecessary.
  3. At this point, all I care about is trying to stop the tragedy unfolding on our border. Anyone helping with that is fine by me unless they've raped or murdered. That said, I wish the leadership would get their heads out of the sand and support these women.
  4. But they probably agree with having child concentration camps. I'm afraid to know what percent of the American population is on board with this. If I had to guess I would say 20% which is downright horrifying.
  5. I feel the same and that is very unfortunate. I only wish we had a strong UN with some power and credibility. It's hard to imagine that right now because pretty much all of the strongest, richest and most powerful nations are violating human rights in significant ways, including the United States. "For profit child prison camp". We deserve to be sanctioned and boycotted for this. I do think there are a lot of people who are taking this seriously and trying to stop it, but I'm not sure it will be enough.
  6. Plus, how can we even be on a human rights council right now? That's laughable. Maybe Canada and parts of Europe have some moral authority right now, but we do not. I'm not saying we are the worst, but we have no room to dictate to anyone at this moment.
  7. I think so too. How fitting that Trump is now bad mouthing them at every turn and trying to turn the pubic against them.
  8. ^ I'm not sure I've ever wished more for some kind of divine retribution despite not being a believer. This entire administration and everyone helping them implement these crimes against humanity deserve it. Speaking of which does anyone know if these child concentration camps are technically a crime against humanity? If not they should be.
  9. What a nut.
  10. Here's an interesting piece by S.E. Cupp discussing that tweet last night by the GOP chair last night calling for blind loyalty to Trump. I don't agree with everything she says, but I do agree with the main point. https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/14/opinions/ronna-mcdaniel-tweet-is-the-death-of-the-gop-cupp-opinion/index.html
  11. I know what you mean. Part of the problem is that so many things have been compared to Nazis over the years the comparison has lost it's punch. Now we are in a situation where those warnings are valid imo, but we need to find different ways of saying it. Still, pictures like these, when we are separating children from their parents and into prison camps are going to have people thinking the obvious.
  12. Yes and there are people who are actually trying to justify this by saying that all they have to do is stop coming. I'm not sure that I have ever felt so much hate for anyone as I do the people who will try to justify this administrations atrocities. Did you see the mural in that child prison camp, Carl? Crazy! We are on the edge of genocide, imo.
  13. I agree. I've said before I now understand why decent Germans couldn't stop the Nazis. We have to band together if we are going to stop history from repeating itself. Remember that children have already been lost in the system and some even to traffickers. There was some outcry, but not enough. If the administration learned anything I think it was that they could get away with disappearing people. Who will stop them? One of the most disturbing parts of this thread are the Trump murals in these child prisons. WTF?
  14. That's good to hear.
  15. I didn't realize this guy won. Holy $hit.
  16. Here's some good news.
  17. This ruling concerning Ohio is terrible news. https://twitter.com/NickKristof/status/1006187077745238021 I ask myself that every day, but I agree with you the way he is alienating our allies is pretty disturbing. Carl is right that a lot of Republican Senators are cowards. Ben Sasse in my state is a perfect example. He's slipped a few times so I know he is not on the Trump train, but he's a pure coward and wants to get reelected. My other senator seems to be a true believer or she does a much better job faking it. It's just crazy the way all of these "leaders" have gone along with this monster.
  18. The Line Becomes a River by Francisco Cantu. It's a memoir of being a border agent who worked from 2008 - 2012. It's almost quint given what's going on since 45 became president.
  19. I hate the way he calls the Canadian Prime Minister "Justin". I know it's a small thing, but it's clearly meant to diminish. The trade situation is completely off the rails and we all have damn good reason to be terrified about these talks with North Korea. Who among us thinks Trump has enough knowledge to conduct negotiations with NK?
  20. ^ Well, there's some good news on this not so great day.
  21. He comes across like an old fool. I'm not sure if he was always like this. It's like Trump has given a big chunk of people permission to show their inner loon. It's truly disturbing. They lie with impunity and believe there are "alternate facts".
