I have noticed the 'liberal' media is saying why other presidents have declared national emergencies and why all of a sudden it's a problem that Trump declaring one instead of focusing on the substance of Trump's national emergency.

You know (maybe you do now) I don't care what Newt says but at least 40% of the country cares and they get their talking points from him and the rest of the conservative media like Fox News and talk radio. I go back and forth with conservatives on another board and that's the talking points that they are using. The GOP would see it as a victory if it was a 50/50 split in the Senate with Pence being the tie breaking vote. The more Democrats in the Senate will give Senators like Susan Collins less of a cover when it comes to voting anti GOP legislation. I know the Democrats being in control of House makes a big difference , and the GOP does too despite whatever the media says. It's the reason why he fired Sessions (and to change the narrative of the GOP losing the House), removing Rosenstein from overseeing the Mueller investigation and is making these moves to derail the Mueller investigation during this lame duck session of Congress before the the Democrats take over the House. Rosenstein, with the confidence of a Dem house behind him, could have felt comfortable releasing very damning Mueller related info that would have spilled over into congressional investigations. If the GOP won the House, none of this happens and the GOP Congress can continue to erode the investigation from the inside out.

The other side is claiming victory because they increased their numbers the Senate (Newt Gingrich gave Trump an A+ when he compared to the GOP midterm House losses compared to what Clinton and Obama lost in the midterms) so they can pack the courts with conservative judges, won some governorships in the Northeast, and beat they Beto, Gillom, and Abrams. The Senate can vote down and Trump can just veto anything the House passes. Trump can just blame the House if the economy starts to slow down.

I found out via previews while watching football, Trump is going to be on 60 Minutes tonight with Lesley Stahl interviewing him. I believe it take at least three or four generations to recover from the damage that Trump going to do this country. Trump has control of all three branches of government the support of the American oligarchs (the Koch Brothers the Mercers, the majority of the intelligence agencies, and the 3/4 of the media and press is on his side openly (Fox News, conservative talk radio, WSJ, etc) or on the sly (CNN, NYT, CBS, etc).

I figure it was about how The GOP has been doing in this state. They have eliminated or limited many social service programs and have attempted to take away the control of the airport in Charlotte from the city itself. Then there was the boycott of the state due to the transgender bathroom bill that cost the state billions in revenue. I know the Right is more embolden than ever to cause as much damage as they can as long they are in control.

Some of us liberals that live in North Carolina wondered how low the perception of the state is due to what the NC GOP has been doing to the state. I figured it the perception would be as low as Mississippi but being compared to South Africa made me laugh. NC hasn't sunk to that level yet. It's a purple state at the most with a conservative/rural- liberal/urban divide. It would be have more Democrat majority if not for the extreme gerrymandering done by the NC GOP when they finally took control of state house. The NC GOP in all of their arrogance, changed the constitution to limit the executive power of the governor when a Democrat was going to be elected as one.

I feel the same way you do about leaving the country except I'm angry more anything. The whole leaving the country mindset never crossed my mind when GWB was in office but I'm just tired of dealing with American conservatives. I've accepted the fact that it's going to take at least 2 or 3 generations to began undo the damage Trump and the conservatives will do to this country now that they can rubber stamp their agenda through the courts. It took 70+ plus years for blacks to crawl out of the hole that Plessy v Ferguson and Jim Crow laws put them in. Unless there's a plague on the horizon, I don't see anything stopping the GOP for getting want they want.
