GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
Ricky Martin is such a handsome fella and I love him. Him and Brenda were just not where it was at lol. I *might* be willing to give him a try since I do think he's gotten better at the acting thing but he obviously is to big of a star to be on GH. I am totally open to ideas. I really couldn't come up with one on the fly. I am horrible at hypothetical casting though.

Lol! Same. This isn't even about making room for Vanessa Marcil's very hypothetical comeback. Just let 8 people go. GH has such a bloated cast. Haha! I was trying to come up with a reasonable love interest and I was like......oh no. Why is everyone she was paired with back in the day like that? I guess Ricky Martin is still okay-ish? I wouldn't recommend that chemistry less pairing to the masses again though.

DAYS: January 2024 Discussion Thread
Happy New Year to all my lovely Days fans! DF's EJ is so nice and romantic it is a completely different take from James Scott's version. I don't dislike it. It is just hard to wrap my head around. Tate was being a bit dumb, but at least he had the presence of mind to text Brady and not Theresa. He's only a kid and it was a realistic reaction. Holly seizing and throwing up was pretty traumatizing. Stefan's speech at the Bistro was silly. Did Brandon Barash just write his own lines? It was such a weird scene. Ari and EM were both really good today. The Paulina/Abe stuff was good, but I think this story has just drug out too long. Abe needs to remember.

Wayne seems like a wonderful guy! I don't blame him for Roman's bad writing. He did what he could including the embarrassing 1992 Mrs. Doubtfire rip off which you are heading into lol. I can see why the show went with Drake as their lead. Roman/John do become redundant when you think about it. And Drake was younger and more classically handsome. The way the affair was written there was really no other choice except to build John/Marlena into endgame. If it was just casual why would our heroine Marlena do that? I can still see a place for Roman after the affair, but I also understand the reasoning of getting rid of him to give a clear path towards John/Marlena. I would have hated Roman being villainized in the way Kristen was and that's the only way JER knew how to write triangles.

Right? I think there is a weird notion that if you are a John/Marlena fan you have to hate Roman. I don't at all. I definitely have some issues with him post return, but I actually think John/Marlena and Roman/Marlena are two different types of pairings. Even RoJohn/Marlena had a very different feel than OGRoman/Marlena. John/Marlena are much more tortured and romantic. They have a much more passionate chemistry. Roman/Marlena are a lot more lighthearted to me and Wayne injects a lot of humor. Even with all the retcons and returns they have a lightness and ease to them that John/Marlena lack sometimes. I don't know I might be weird. I liked Brenda/Jax* in the Sonny/Brenda/Jax triangle too even if I am a diehard S&B girl. *Ingo's antics were not known at the time.

I definitely think this is a topic very open to discussion. I can find a lot of things I don't love about Roman, but I do have a John/Marlena bias. They just work better IMO. I guess I don't think Roman was an awful guy, but I do think he could have considered Marlena's feelings more. The actual position Roman was in was so awful post 1991. People just liked John better lol? My biggest complaint is how they wrote him off and it does make him a bit of an ass.

While I appreciate your viewing and work I still think you have a broad take on Roman being a jerk. I don't think Roman is a bad person or evil, but I think there are a lot of scenes that frame him as slightly misogynistic and kinda jerk-y. I find him especially pushy with Marlena in the 1991 era to just pick up where they left off. I would also suggest a lot of 1992 where he only cares about his job and not Marlena's. After the affair, it's hard to blame him exactly, but Marlena was more than willing to make it work. The affair is wrong, but it's a set of extraordinary circumstances that no one in real life is dealing with and I do think Marlena would have never cheated on him again. Roman uses Sami's trauma to almost weaponized Marlena's flaws and I find it ugly. Plus he just bails soon after. Who would leave their traumatized children like that? He was mad at their mother not them. Roman then remained incommunicado for years and took the most dangerous ISA missions with no regard to his family while Marlena and John openly faced their actions and consequences. Again, Wayne was fired, but that's kind of shitty behavior. It's not like Carrie and Sami were living their best lives drama free while he was gone.

That last pic of Leslie Charleson is stunning! Idk, CM and VM just feels like a Hallmark movie dream. Like two shiny soap pets making a bigger shinier soap couple. I don't think it would be that good. It's just where the mind drifts. I was going to suggest re-hiring ASJ, but then I went down his weird MAGA journey and I don't think Jagger will reappear either. Vanessa really needs to stop having chemistry with anti-vaxxers and Trumpers is all I am going to say.🤣

GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
No. I really struggle with pairing her with anyone on the current canvas. There is like Ned, Finn, or Curtis in her age range. Drew seems obvious because Carly and he also feels like Jax-lite IMO. Plus CM and VM feel like some sort of Frons fever dream and my mind is still ingrained to entertain that. You could also pair her younger and I would guess Dante, Michael, Nik, and Cody would be possible. None of those options feel great to me although I think Cody/Brenda would be a hot pairing. It doesn't really seem in character. I would go outside and hire a decent name or re-hire Sean Kanan or Brandon Barash and go from there. I don't think there is really any way to get out of pairing Sonny/Brenda as endgame, so there just needs to be a Jax-like handsome, charming placeholder.

GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
Yes. I would play the long game with Sonny and just tease the romance and sexual tension. I would establish Brenda and her son outside of the Sonny universe for awhile and then have Sonny making moves to better himself and win Brenda. It's a bit difficult without Jax/Jason around, but I assume they could find a good ex-soap hunk to be her love interest for awhile.

GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
I have said before a Brenda/Nik pairing weirds me out. In theory it's sounds okay, but Brenda knew Nik as a teenager. Even if VM and TC were together in real life the fact Brenda knew Nik when he was still in high school makes it a no go for me. It's not as bad as Emily/Sonny, but it's along the same lines. The wedding was very good IMO. Probably the best stuff Vanessa/Mo did besides their breakup at the end of her run. The show just didn't keep the momentum going post-wedding. They cut Brenda/Sonny's honeymoon and killed off Jake soon after. The interest was obviously there from the audience-the execution was just lacking. I would still say the interest is there in Brenda. I am not sure about the interest in Sonny/Brenda these days. I would probably tie her to Sonny at first then follow a similar playbook to KMc/Robin's return and hire someone else for Brenda's love interest and move her away from Sonny and into the Deception fold. I can't quite picture Brenda with anyone on canvas although Drew would probably be the most likely person.

GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
Why not? These people aren't doing anything of value. This honestly has nothing to do with a pipedream of VM returning. There is a lot of dead weight on the cast currently. I would need a minimum of 2 year as well. too short. 3 months would be spent on expository about how awesome and cool Brenda is. Which agreed, but I don't need to actually hear it from every character.🤣

GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
I actually think Vanessa is one of the few people who could demand a big fee. Even if her last returns weren't as great as the previous ones-the Sonny/Brenda wedding had big numbers. I think in theory she definitely has the body of work to back that up and you could easily cut 5 or 6 GH cast members to make it work and nobody would miss Easton, Cyrus, Diane, Chase's dad, just to name a few. That would easily cover Vanessa's cost, but that's totally up to Frank and how he wants to use his budget. Brenda just isn't a priority and I think that's Frank's preference as opposed to the overall audience preference.

GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
I believe Vanessa said the show reached out to her for the 60th in a minor role. So perhaps Frank might want her for a cameo and buzz, but nothing substantial. And I can see her rejecting it on that alone. I think the days of GH begging Vanessa to return are long over and it might be an ego thing on her part. At the same time her latest returns have been lackluster so I could see the fact it's not a slam dunk ratings winner. I do think Vanessa is someone who knows her worth, but her worth might also be not as much as she thinks it is anymore. I personally think she brings enough hype and fanbase to make it worth it for the show. I don't think Frank sees it the same way though. I also don't think GH would ever go off the air without featuring Brenda in some capacity.
-
GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
Actually, no. I don't think Frank cares for her much. It might be Vanessa's decision, but I don't think the show is actively reaching out to her.

GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
I guess my question is why not put her in a major story? I don't expect her to run the canvas in the way the Brenda's returns tend to do, but more integration with the players of this SEC stuff would have helped. I agree she's not written out of character, but she also really isn't doing much. And unless Rena is completely against returning in a larger role this doesn't have to be a stopgap appearance. Even if it is there was a chance to integrate her with more of the cast so the next time she returns she fits better on the canvas. I mean 99% of my GH complaints are the fact Vanessa isn't here 🤣

GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
I thought it was a decent cliffhanger. I couldn't be more over Cyrus if I tried. He has outlived his usefulness so long ago. I can't stand the way JK speaks his lines and the whole thing was a massive breach of Nina's privacy. And I hate Nina. The Lois stuff was good with Sonny. Instead of sitting and chatting with Olivia I do wish she was a little more in the mix of the Michael/Carly/Ned/Sonny argument. I just hope no one stops Lois from telling the truth and glad she quickly figured out what apparently no one else in PC could in like 5 mins lol.

GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
I feel bad because Hulu put up yesterday's episode late and I watched it this morning and it does appear Lois is actually going to do something lol. I hope she does tell Sonny because she should. Lois really has no strong ties to anyone involved with this mess except Sonny so it makes sense. Perhaps that is the reason the show has kept Lois on an island. I still think it has been a waste of Rena's talents, but if she ends this boring SEC story I will keep my mouth shut.

I love 1994! Yeah, it isn't a slight to SSH. Victor was really the only available love interest for her at the time. I suppose the show could have created a love interest for her, but I don't think the audience wanted her with anyone other than Doug. As it was, Julie was spending a lot of time at Alice's restaurant meddling in the Tanner/Molly relationship. It just wasn't a great fit at the time.

GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
Yes, I enjoyed those Sonny/Lois scenes, but I don't understand why there aren't more. Sonny actually spends days lurking around the Metro Court and the hospital-he can't have a few scenes with Lois? Wouldn't it be interesting if Lois took a liking to Nina and bonded with her before she finds out she turned Carly/Drew in? Speaking of Carly, Lois seemed to be TeamCarly yesterday, but are they friends or friendly*? You could introduce Lois to a whole new set of characters around town and create new relationships, but she's just not doing anything except drinking wine at the Q's. *Lois should not be friends with Carly just because of her longstanding bff status with Brenda, but since Brenda currently doesn't exist and Olivia is her bff now I'll allow a Carly/Lois friendship.

I can actually see why SSH was let go as well. Between Maggie, Kate, Vivian, and Laura there wasn't a lot for SSH to do. I would take Marlena/John out of the equation because they were still playing "younger" than that group in the 90's. I think if Julie would have had better staying power if both Doug and KA's Hope returned a little earlier. I really never saw any parallels to Julie/Vivian until reading that. It is true Vivian did take Julie's place. I have trouble picturing Julie vs. Kate though.

GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
I don't even know if I think Lois has been written like a cartoon. Lois is just written boringly. It's as if she has no life or agency of her own. She is only on the show to react to other people's issues. I absolutely agree she should have feelings about Olivia marrying her ex-husband, but I would also like to know what she's been doing the last 25 years. I hate when shows basically put characters on pause in their lives. It's as if Lois has just been hanging out in Bensonhurst for the last few decades doing nothing of note. I also don't know why Lois can't interact with non-Quatermaines. Why doesn't she have scenes with Carly, Sonny, Nina, even Ava? I know a lot of the cast she interacted with is long gone, but it seems like a waste to have her hanging out in the Q's kitchen for 2 months.
