  1. Did you watch his news conference on Friday? That's not at all the sentiment that I got while watching. He seemed to indicate that while there was no actual vote tampering, that Russia had definitively interfered with the electoral process. He also said that the media's constant focus on e-mails that although embarrassing, were neither illegal nor inethical, instead of focusing on issues that were tantamount to the American public, had done a disservice to the public. He also felt the Clinton had been treated unfairly by the news coverage. He definitely pointed a finger at Russia though. He said he even talked to Putin about it at a summit they both attending months ago.
  2. Also with WWII, there was a genuine coalition of countries on the Alliance side with soldiers from pretty much every part of the global volunteering to fight: the U.K.- along with soldiers from their colonies in Canada, the Caribbean, India and African countries like Kenya fighting in the RAF and the military. France and lest we forget, Russia did the bulk of the fighting (and dying) in Eastern Europe where it led the fight against the Nazi army, where Russia held the line to try to stop incursions and reverse occupations in Poland, Czechoslovakia, what is now the Ukraine, etc. The "coalition of the willing" that relies mainly on the U.S. (and maybe some in Great Britain) to do the bulk of the fighting, is not a true alliance. None of the wars since WWII has resembled anything close to the Alliances formed during WWII. Of course, if you go by the logic of the neocons, one could claim that, during WWII, the U.S. technically "led from behind" since they joined the War effort so late.
  3. In less than 10 years time! So odd. You would think that any new writer that was starting, that storyline would be in the Top 5 (considering that the show 'wiped' away episodes prior to '79) must see to get a sense of the show and it's characters not to mention that in '94, you still had many of the same characters (Barbara, Emily, Susan, many of the Hughes, Walsh, Dixons) still on the canvas.
  4. Well, let me see... the Reagan administration helped arm and train the mujahedeen to fight against the Soviets, unbeknownst to the U.S. it was helping to train a young Osama bin Laden and a band of some other volunteer fighters who would eventually be known as Al Qaeda. And even though Trump's faulty logic likes to blame Hillary and Obama for ISIS, we know that the first ISIS masterminds sprang out from among the detainees held at Gitmo, which was an American invention during the Iraq war. People like to oversimplify these complex situations. The fact of the matter is that sadly, there were already jihadists lurking among rebel groups and Obama was reluctant to arm and train them for that sole purpose and has stated it repeatedly. He stated that again yesterday in his news conference, as well as the knowledge that Americans were fatigued of war and did not have the appetite for another lengthy, complex occupation in yet another Middle Eastern country. Even in the best case scenario, fostering a diplomatic solution where someone like Asaad is concerned would require intricate and elaborate use of diplomatic and likely military resources and yes, lots of money, time, effort and personnel and probably more loss of life. Anyone who hasn't read How To Win a Cosmic War by Iranian-American author Reza Aslan should really do so. In it, he gives such a great understanding of why it is useless to engage in these battles in the Middle East. The only way to win is by not being drawn into fight in the first place. You are dealing with cultures who will fight for a hundred years if necessary, kill hundreds, thousands of men, women and children while still championing the righteousness of their cause. How do you fight that? And in Syria, the sad reality is that both sides-- the government and the rebels have knowingly killed men, women and children while still insisting in the righteousness of their cause. I agree that with @Juliajms that taking in refugees would have been the most humane thing the U.S. could've done but many of us refused because we don't truly want to commit ourselves to possibly helping people longterm if it inconveniences us. We have been fooled into thinking that there is a "quick and dirty" solution that can be easily attained with military might and no-fly zones.
  5. Yeah, Dusty with those piercing baby blues and that raven hair. Not only was he too handsome but I liked how straight-up a guy Dusty was in those days and how he didn't hesitate to call out Lily when she was throwing tantrums. He was the type of soap character that doesn't really exist today, without guile yet interesting. It's too bad that in less about a year, Dusty's character would be so under-utilized. I can sort of see why Brian Bloom left. It seems like Roy was the only detective who was initially unwilling to immediately assume that James Stenbeck was even dead. Seems like everyone else jumped to the conclusion that James was killed in the fire.
  6. This is the world that we live in. Trump boasts that he could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue with a gun and shoot someone and his campaign wouldn't miss a beat, people wave it off and claim it's all just talk... he's elected president. Duterte boasts that he's killed people, people dismiss it as exaggeration, he's elected president of the Philippines. Well, guess what? ‘I Cannot Lie,’ Rodrigo Duterte Says, Confirming He Did Kill People as Mayor Duterte has people who he claims are drug suspects killed, yet apparently he takes fentanyl, a very strong opiod. He claims he is not addicted, that he takes the drug only as his doctor prescribes. Well, guess what? Hitler had a doctor too and his doctor regularly prescribed drugs for Hitler (an enormous amount but all 'prescribed'). There is a well researched recently published book all about this!
  7. Interesting that Yahoo believes that their 2014 hack was sponsored by a "government entity" but apparently seem not to know who/what is behind the enormous 2013 hack that they seemed only to become aware of in August. The only way, I could see Verizon wanting Yahoo is to strip the company for parts. Hacked Yahoo Data Is for Sale on Dark Web
  8. In terms of why POTUS may not have struck back earlier...maybe because he doesn't be in violation of international rules in how he goes after hackers within a sovereign country, especially if it is regarded as "state-sponsored" hacking. It actually requires more care in planning a response than we may think. Although I'm think that by the time POTUS has announced that the US will respond in a time and manner of its choosing, this has probably already been set in motion but it probably has taken quite some time of planning and calculation to get there. The media has clearly not learned its lesson (I guess fake news has offered them a scapegoat for their dereliction of duty). The promotion of hype and a hyped-up candidate is what has brought us to this state, in the first place.
  9. You're welcome. It's just amazing to me the sheer number of ATWT actors (before and after they were on the show) appeared on various commercials that aired during an episode. By the grace of You Tube, I'm frequently discovering commercials/actors.
  10. Such a magnificently hairy beast...and the dog's pretty impressive too.
  11. Fabio's putting in WERK in the offseason.
  12. I actually don't think the restaurant kerfuffle lasted very long. It trended briefly and then was gone with the wind. If anything is taking up oxygen in the media, it's this giant Yahoo! hack. Then again, hacking will also bring it back around to Russia as some Russians are suspected in this as well (Russians have been known to sell hacked account information on the dark web, ostensibly with much of that information being used in identity theft scams/crimes.
  13. Looks like some Democratic State Attorneys General plan to use a cherished Republican SAG tactic. Litigation against the next POTUS. To Combat Trump, Democrats Ready a G.O.P. Tactic: Lawsuits And Trump, while still avoiding his Intelligence briefings like he dodges disclosing his tax returns, has time to attack Vanity Fair's reviews of his crappy restaurant.
  14. THIS! One hoax from a clearly disturbed teenager won't obscure the Muslim woman police officer who was assaulted as she took her son home or the other unfortunate incidents that have happened. The fact is @GregNYC in 2016, the rate of hate crimes in NYC alone has escalated by 35% over the last year. Finding Hate Crimes on the Rise, Leaders Condemn Vicious Acts And no amount of cherry picking to find the hoax in the group of multitudes of legitimate attacks is going to change that. In case you need a visual aid, here is a picture of the Muslim female Police Office who was attacked in the NYC subway, Office Elsokary.
  15. This story really grabs me in the heart. I can barely stand to think of what those people went through in their last moments and the survives who only barely emerged with their lives while having to witness the death of family and church brothers and sisters. Out of respect from the victims and the survivors, I've read about them so as not to forget that these were human beings, not merely victims of evil. Today, I also had another pit in my stomach thinking about the parents who should be celebrating the coming Christmas but can only mourn the loss of their children who were viciously taken away from them. I wish the news would stop giving oxygen to the disgusting conspiracy theorists whose opinions aren't worth the dust beneath the parent's feet.
  16. I guess "libtards" are the ones with the lionshare of the talent.
  17. I know that people are blaming Trevor Noah for giving that woman Tomi (can't remember her name) a spotlight but Noah recently did an interview with President Obama and so far Obama reminds people that the Russian hacks of the DNC were announced in October before the Election and there was a drip, drip, drip of hacking (e.g. Wikileaks) and also reminds folks that Trump even begged the Russians to hack Hillary (remember that?)-- so I think he finds it odd that people now claim to be surprised consider Russia's history of espionage for several decades. He said this was not particularly sophisticated and the information hacked not explosive, but very banal but expressed surprise at how many people chose to ignore the fact that Trump openly begged the Russians to hack a president candidate. I'm probably not phrasing all the details precisely so I think the interview is worth viewing. It's on the Comedy Central website, I'm sure, though I'm viewing from another site that has the video embedded, ATM.
  18. The news says that Melania Trump was in court in regards to her case against the Daily Mail (for a story about her allegedly being an escort) but I wouldn't be surprised if she decided to pick up some legal separation papers on the way out...for possible future use.
  19. LOL. Thanks
  20. Not enough to try to preserve what he's built apparently. Kanye's a provocateur and Trump wants to obscure his horrendous Cabinet picks. Mutual desperation, I guess.
  21. Forgot to mention that the other day, I came across a 1988 episode where Allyson Rice Taylor was doing a Weight Watchers commercial years before she came on as Connor Jamison Walsh. I quickly edited to produce a clip so you don't have to watch the entire episode, which is from May 17, 1988.
  22. Yeah, it was announced this morning, hence my comment a few posts ago. http://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/28724-the-politics-thread/?do=findComment&comment=1490122 Also, think it's well timed to the Kanye distraction because there are probably some Trumpkins who won't be happy with this pick.
  23. They claim they're not trolls but when you say trolls, they respond like it's their name. Anyhoo, folks are losing their sh*t over Kanye meeting with DJT in Trump Tower and I say, people still regard Kanye's actions? The man just recently got out of psychiatric hold. Either Kanye likes attention or he's asking Trump for a loan.
  24. Guys this ignore feature...where is it? I am hoping trolls don't start flocking here now, it's been a relatively troll-free thread.
