  4. Wow, you went further with your depressing prediction than even I did.... The sad part is that I can very well imagine that your scenario is what will happen..... It just shows what state this show is in at the moment, and how little trust one has in the showrunners.
  5. I've just had a horrible thought.... Since Faith has terminal cancer, I sincerely hope that they're not planning to have her die in early October, so that the 50th anniversary episode will be her funeral, mirroring the first episode being the funeral of Jacob Sugden.
  6. Short answer: No, No, and HELL NO!
  7. Yes! Especially 1976 and 1977. I've seen quite a bit of the other years from the 1970s, but very, very little of those two. Just the odd episode here and there. For me, the perfect anniversary gift (apart from annihilating the Dingles ) would be that they would resume releasing the 1970s on dvd.
  8. It's so satisfying when you watch old episodes on Youtube and get an answer to things you've wondered about. Like why George Verney left Miffield Hall to his nephew Gerald and not to Mark, whom we actually saw on screen with George a few years earlier. Or how it came to be that Matt's cousin Polly found him again, after years apart, just in time for his wedding to Dolly.
  9. It was an odd feeling watching a final in which you actively wants both players to lose..... I've never liked Djokovic, and Kyrgios is such a brat.
  10. It was obvious she had run out of ideas at the end when she used the drop-shot in almost every rally.
  11. ^^ Yes, there are still some moments when something worthwhile shines through. That is why I cannot let go completely. Those moments, however few and far apart, give me hope that things will improve somehow. A vain hope I know, but as they say, hope springs eternal But most of the time the show is just like you described, "heartless and hollow". I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it: this is a show that has lost its identity and become just another generic soap. I know that they did it for various reasons, including concern for the real life villagers which is admirable, but abandoning the real village where they used to shoot in favour of a newly constructed village set, really altered the feel of the show. I can see the necessity of it, but still lament the consequences..... The current village set feels as artificial as the plotlines.
  12. Damn it! Why is it that this show could be so good back then, and be so bad now...... I love the relationships between Annie and Sam, Annie and Dolly and of course Amos and Henry. Those two are like an old married couple. And I love the glimpse of Miffield Hall as it looked back then. Now more commonly known of course as Home Farm. It looked slightly bigger in those days..... It's also interesting that already at this early stage in the marriage between Matt and Dolly the issue that eventually will drive them apart is apparent. Dolly wants them to have a place of their own, while Matt is happy and content to stay at Emmerdale.
