I always wanted to write for AW too! It was my show. Especially the characters of Cecile, Cass, Felicia and I loved Vicky and Jake (But Anne Heche as Vicky). Rachel, I thought, was so underused at times. I'll say if I wrote the show her and Carl would never have been a couple after the years of previous history. Nor at the end of the show would there ever have been a Jordan Stark or Lila's baby in a tree! Ridiculous... I've always felt gimmicks were never the way to go. Devil Possession (DAYS). Vampires (PC). Alternative places like Eterna (OLTL). Yes, maybe you get a few more viewers on a temp basis, but I prefer character driven stories. Just my opinion.

I'm only "quoting" this one because it's smaller. LOL. I, too, while growing up always wanted to write for a soap. Never came to be, of course. Later in life, I wrote out my own story in novel form and am still working on it. I tried self-publishing through Amazon (four volumes worth) but didn't get very far. I have now decided to use a different co-op publishing company to relaunch them. I'm hoping the first novel in the series will be out the beginning of next year. If I can't write for a tv show...maybe I can make one in book form. I call it my DALLAS in a book. Ha... So don't give up. You can still have your dream of writing a "soap"...just use a different avenue.

Ratings from the 80's
These ratings always show just how far behind in the game NBC was and it makes me sad. As AW was my show and someone that enjoyed Texas as a kid and became a fan of SFT during it's NBC run, it's clear NBC didn't have the audience. I wonder how a show like Generations would have done if it had been on CBS after Y&R, like B&B ended up. I think it's run would have been far more significant with a CBS audience behind it.

Recasts on shows: good, bad, in between
i know i'll get haters for this but i didn't mind JB as Vicky. However, I could not stand her as Marley. So darn bland. At the end if JB didn't want to play both parts they should have dumped her and taken EW back as both Marley/Vicky. What would the show have had to lose? An expensive contract of JB's that caused the show to pay her AND EW? I think most fans at that point would have been okay with the recasts considering it was going back to EW.

I thought the Red Swan contained the codicil inside that stated Mac had another daughter (Paulina) and that's why people were being led to find it. I don't remember all the details either though. I just thought it was a way Mac was trying to lead people to know there was another daughter out there. Was the codicil actually inside it? I don't remember. I thought it was...but maybe not.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
Anna Stuart's last scene being wheeled away on a gurney ( I think) was when the three pillows were grabbed. I thought Anna said later in interviews that it was something that she had just done and was nothing to do with the script. I thought she said she didn't realize it would cause such a stir. I may be wrong...but I don't think the "pillow scene" was ever intended, but yes, the show's writing was heading down the path that Scott would turn out to be Donna's child and then Anna decided to leave. I think it was changed after that. Yes, Philece was not a good choice to take over for Donna but her portrayal of a cold Renee was great! I wish we could have seen more how Renee would have interacted with Stefano. She could have been the Kristen-type before Kristen.

When Kathleen returned, I wanted her back with Cass too. I always thought she made the most sense with Cass. I suppose the show knew she was only short-term, but still. I thought Cass and Frankie were okay. I would never have considered them a "super couple" though. In fact, I enjoyed Lila with him at the end more than I did the two as a couple.

Texas! Discussion Thread
Have been watching some of the eps in '81 posted on youtube. When Ryan was ousted as the head of World Oil and Justin was named in his place. These episodes are all well done. I'm finding myself enjoying it. Did Jim Poyner (Dennis) leave on his own or was he written out? I'm finding it hard to decide if I like Dennis or hate him. I've read that there were major changes around the time Bev McKinsey quit. Did they not focus on Dennis anymore because Iris left? I'm watching the very beginning of Elliot/Paige and find it interesting. I think the triangle with Dennis could have been a great story, but didn't it get dropped?

Thanks for the link! I loved the characters of Ruby and Reena as a kid. I was 8 when this originally aired. I remember the characters/actors more than any real story line.

I thought David Forsyth was offered recurring at the time of Anna Holbrook's dismissal and he turned it down. Not sure if that's true. It could just be a faulty memory. haha. Even though I had never watched Sharon Gabet on EON, I was thrilled when I read she was coming to AW because I was aware of her popularity. The show was a mess her whole time there. I wish she had been a rival to Donna in some way (former boarding school roommate or something) who came to town and stirred up trouble. Maybe if she flirted with Peter to get under Donna's skin (much like Cecile and Peter back in the day) and was a peer to them instead of a weak, abused character her stint could have worked better. Just IMO.

Vetsoapfan's Treasure Trove: Vintage Soap Material
Yes, thank you! It seems the actors took the shows so seriously back then, almost as if they were doing theater instead of television drama. I suppose I can understand that since many of the actors early on came directly from theater, but seems so strange to me now. Could you imagine what Jacquie or George would think of Ron Carlivati's camp on DAYS right now?!! haha

Vetsoapfan's Treasure Trove: Vintage Soap Material
I could read these old articles all day! Thanks! As AW is my all-time fave, I loved the one about George Reinhold being let go. I guess I never realized he was on the show for 7 years. For some reason, I thought it was shorter than that. Seems like such a bold thing back then to fire one of your leading stars because of their attitude! I wonder if that kind of thing would still happen today if the actor had a huge following. Shows can't afford to lose any viewer any more.

Melrose Place
I loved Lexi and Michael at the end. They could have been a great couple for S8 to go against Peter and Amanda. Didn't Lisa Rinna say she was ready to return if there had been a S8 (after having her baby)? Of course, it is Lisa Rinna who probably says anything. haha. Throwing Taylor in the mix with Peter/Amanda, Michael/Lexi, and Kyle/Jane could have been fun! I thought the show was starting to come back around when S7 ended. If I had done S8, I would have tried hard for those seven characters, let go Megan and Ryan (Boring!!!), brought on one new character that was a half-brother to Peter, and "rested" Eve until the last couple of episodes leading up to a big revenge type cliffhanger in the style of Kimberly blowing up the apt. complex.

Actors who have never been nominated for an Emmy
Was Stephen Schnetzer (AW) ever nominated? I know Cass was often goofy in a way but some of his work during the manic depressive storyline and Frankie's death was great.

I LOVED Sam and Amanda in the very beginning. They were my fave daytime couple until the writers ruined it by having Amanda be pregnant so early on. It had been such a great Romeo & Juliet type story being Rachel's daughter and Mitch's brother with Mac looking on. They should have played them up more before saddling them with a baby...to then only have Olivia thrown in with a baby of her own. Sandi Ferguson was Amanda to me although I did like Laura Moss. I remember being disappointed when Laura had been let go because I thought she was just getting into it. Matt Crane was definitely Matthew and I never liked Brian Krause or Jeff Phillips in the role. Jeff and Lisa Peluso I thought worked well together but he just wasn't Matthew. I preferred Larry Lau as Jamie over Russell Todd. (I don't really remember the others before that.) Maybe because I was a big fan of Jamie/VIcky (Anne Heche) then. I wish they had brought him back after Russell Todd. Cecile!!!!! My fave character of all-time on AW. She should have at the very least been brought on the last couple of episodes to interrupt Cass and Lila's wedding instead of the stupid Gorilla story. I think it would have been much more drama to have Cecile show up just as the wedding starts and profess her love to Cass one more time, only to be let down. While others in the audience (Rachel, Felicia, etc could make snide comments about her and show flashbacks.) My biggest gripe about the finale was how little they showed flashback history. Yes, I know, it was thrown together last minute and they had all that they could do just to end it but still......

It's the 2 o'clock hour and i'm really missing this show today! Wishing I had some comfort of hanging out with my friends: Cass, Felicia, Jake, and Vicky. I wonder what Cecile is up to these days. She's probably still a "Queen" of some third world country that has guerrilla henchmen guarding her estate. Or maybe even gorillas. I mean, it is Cecile. Who the Hell knows?

Soap Opera Cast Lists and Character Guides- Cancelled and Current
She was also on AW in '95 playing Bunny Eberhardt. I believe it was right after Jake returned from "the dead" and he owed gambling money or something. She came to collect for her boss(es) and held he and Paulina hostage.

I agree. The only time i didn't like Felicia was her pairing with John. Something about it just didn't fit and she came off horribly toward Sharlene. I never really enjoyed her pairing with Mitch either. I thought her best was Lucas and I even enjoyed her match with Zane which ended too quickly.
