  1. I think he looks pretty good (it would be another story if he went shirtless or other such tackiness). It is very Frankie Goes to Hollywood. I love '80s chic and style and entertainment. I feel like we've been stuck in the '80s for a good while now (especially with Trump...) so I will take any good imagery we can get as we hurtle toward hell.
  2. Generic but not off base: https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2018/03/04/academy-awards-oscars-politics-partisan-hack-217219?lo=ap_d1 Some cheap shots but I did laugh at the "Loheta" I might tape and then watch if Laurie Metcalf or Allison Janney win. I don't really care about the rest. It will be interesting to see the backlash if Gary Oldman wins as it will yet again show just how hollow the "Me Too" movement is in Hollywood.
  3. DIRTY COP! DIRTY COP! DIRTY COP! He's a...DIRTY COP! I spent most of that storyline wishing for a Tom and Mack murder/suicide.
  4. I thought that was Joe Riley (or was he not on the show at this time?).
  5. She would have but she never would have had a real role...I think only Agnes Nixon might have seen her potential. The only complaint I have about that episode is I wish that it had been built up to a bit more, but it works very well. The scene where she snaps Schneider was long overdue, especially with all the jokes about how he has pushed himself onto the family for years (and the fans who go on about how wonderful he is and how horrible Elena and Alex's father is...). It meant that once the boundaries were set, her going to him for help after she herself sees that she needs help was all the more powerful. I liked her work on Six Feet Under and then sort of stopped following her. I'm so glad she's gotten such a good part. This is a dream role and I can't think of anyone who could have played it better. The scene where she is in bed, drowning in depressed thoughts, is just incredible. You could use that as a showcase.
  6. I suppose you had to be there. I didn't see either Betsy until years later, and I also very much preferred Lindsay Frost.
  7. This really bothers me. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/mar/02/carl-icahn-shares-sell-trump-steel-tariffs-announcement-timing
  8. It looks like they deliberately chose places that are in red states and states tied to Congressional Republican leaders. Clever. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/03/02/trump-tariffs-world-response-382959 European Union officials are considering targeting products from politically sensitive Republican-run states, including tariffs on Harley-Davidson’s made in Speaker Paul Ryan’s district; new duties on bourbon made in Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s home state of Kentucky; and duties on orange juice from Florida — a critical swing state. And he doesn't care - he doesn't care whether the EU uses this to their advantage, or China, or whether Mexico and Canada come after us, pull out of NAFTA, etc. He just wants to feel like a bad-ass. Republicans enabled this and now they will take a huge hit. Yet, knowing them, they will probably just blame it all on Hillary and liberals, and cower.
  9. She will pop up off and on into fall.
  10. Reading these reminds me of how I disliked Meg living with Mack and Karen, being raised by them, a situation that should have been much better than it turned out to be. I think it's because rather than seeing them as loving parents and feeling the poignancy of the situation, I saw Mack by this time as a huge self-righteous pain in the ass and I never forgave him for what he did at Laura's funeral. I never stopped wanting Greg to take his child back.
  11. https://www.politico.eu/article/donald-trump-trade-wars-are-good/?lo=ap_b1 Moronically and dangerously glib as always. I have to imagine a lot of the business community and Republicans are fuming at this. Between that and the flip-flopping on guns I have to wonder if we are finally going to see more blatant fightback against him, which we've already been seeing dribs and drags of in Congress on the Russia investigation.
  12. I imagine Julianne Moore may have already told them she was leaving the show by this time. Frannie's story had basically ended in 1987, so they wrapped up Sabrina's story while Frannie made sporadic appearances.
  13. I just read that Trump is trying to push the idea of the death penalty for drug dealers. This will just lead to Duterte-style bloodbaths. I'd like to say it won't happen here, but...
  14. In the midst of all this there's a good chance we'll be hearing about tariffs being slapped on more imports, which is likely going to lead us into a trade war we can't afford. I know everyone has been saying the economy is going to crash but I worry it may be worse than we even expect.
  15. I think she just vanished, and there was a mention. I remember being annoyed as I liked Sam. That was one of my first moments seeing what JFP would do to the show.
  16. I don't watch BH regularly, I should preface, but Erika looks so old and false before her time, in a way that reeks of deep insecurities. It's very Gaga, but even Gaga has moved on somewhat. It's like she actually is the star of The Comeback season 3 and we won't know this until a few years from now when Lisa Kudrow says she couldn't continue in the role due to other commitments.
  17. The real problem is the show itself is in the shitter. Unwatchable. Kate Oates is the most overrated soap producer around.
  18. The New York Times seems to be eternally confused about what they are supposed to be (or as some say, they just seem more confused because they are now called out by social media, which wasn't an issue until the last 5 or so years). I was reading this about their editorial page editor, James Bennet, who has gotten most of the attention for bumbles and stumbles this year. https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2018/02/new-york-times-op-ed-crisis-james-bennet The most recent (aside from Bret Stephens repeatedly Twitter bitching about people who criticize his cool kid friends at the paper...) flap involves the Times briefly hiring a woman with ties to a white supremacist. https://splinternews.com/the-new-york-times-just-hired-and-maybe-unhired-a-na-1822978000 A lot of Republicans benefited from it mostly being a good year for the party. They also nominated a flawed Democrat to run against him, and I think the Democrats were hobbled by him dropping out and then coming back in. Media darling Marco has also benefited from a decade of gushing press. He was supposed to their hero. He was supposed to reach young people because he listened to Tupac. He was supposed to bring in more Hispanic voters. They were still gushing over him after he made half-hearted, obviously false promises at the town hall - oh he stood up so well to criticism, and so on. They'll never fully give up on him, just as they never will on other forever friends (like McCain, Romney, "T-Paw," etc.) because it means they will lose face.
  19. Steve, Willis, Vince, Sharlene, Jason, Emma.
  20. Sad, it not very surprising. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2018/02/26/refugee-resettlement-confusion-executive-orders-217038?lo=ap_d1
  21. No one cares where he is now.
  22. If this were a board full of seasoned political activists - I assumed most people were more like myself who don't have those ties. I know a few here do but didn't think they were ever involved in Beto O'Rourke's races. If I misjudged anyone here they have my apologies.
  23. He's almost 50, so that's not really too far off.
  24. Unfortunately I see a lot of general people who think it will be a big year for Democrats, which ends up giving me 2016 flashbacks. That's why I thought the article was interesting. That's understandable - I was just confused as I didn't think anyone from Florida would know any details about him you couldn't get from a pundit.
