ALL: They Almost Became
I didn't realize people hate Scott Clifton as well as Liam, but then I barely bother with B&B threads. I can see where his talk on Youtube might annoy people though.

Disgusting. A part of me wonders if this is the start of doing what Russia did and repealing domestic violence legislation. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/sessions-rules-that-victims-of-domestic-abuse-are-not-eligible-for-asylum

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
Lachlan wasn't interested in any more school - he just started a business with Victoria. Joe is mostly just there now to pine over Debbie, sadly, unless they decide to revive that awful 'feud' with Robert. Lachlan, Joe and Vanessa are and have always been plot devices. How one feels about them depends on how one feels about the actors or the scripts, I guess. I don't really have a problem with Vanessa, I certainly prefer the present stuff to when her sole purpose on the show was to have an affair with a 17-year old, as they reminded us of over and over and over again. Aaron still has the scrapyard (I wish they would get rid of it) but he has been lacking motivation for years, and the show doesn't really even bother now. I guess he will probably end up with another baby soon, if that helps. This is what Emmerdale has been for most of the last decade so I just either accept it or take a break. I hope it improves but I know it won't.

Was that story around the time of the promo? (I wondered if that's what the hugging scenes with Steve and Leslie were about) I know she came back around the time of Leslie's wedding to Mike. The whole story always sounds so pointless to me and out of step with most of GL up to that point. Maybe they were worried over ratings.

I really just wish I could see the Kit and Charlotte story. I'm sure it may not have been as compelling onscreen as on paper, but I love watching Nancy Altman act, and it's the main story of those years that pops for me when I read about it. The others I imagine were better to watch than read summaries of. (seeing Roger and Peggy in those years would also be interesting) Some stuff, like Leslie's mother coming back from the dead, feels a bit "eh."

They've spent years only blaming Democrats (Clintons, Obama) and they are also scared of their voters. A Congresswoman is probably going to lose her primary because she criticized Trump two years ago. The infamous Mark Sanford, another never-Trumper in SC may lose his. The only ones who speak up are leaving office. I laughed when I read that Mitt Romney is apparently going around planning to lead a wing in the Senate that will stand up to Trump. Good luck with that. I still remember those awkward photos when he wanted to be SoS.

@I Am A Swede thought you might like this. It's a few articles someone posted from a 1993 soap magazine. If you click on it there are two Emmerdale pieces.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
As said above, it was in the '90s, but the most I've heard of it in recent years has been the many horrible games that have tanked the franchise.- The Politics Thread
I know every day is insanity but these people, his trade people, are [!@#$%^&*] insane. I know these types of people are all over his administration (which is why I'm increasingly terrified about this meeting with NK), but to have them going on TV and spouting such vitriol gives me a chill about where we're going next. And yet again NO Republicans in Congress are stepping in. No oversight. NONE. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/06/10/special-place-hell-trump-trudeau-navarro-635100 https://www.rawstory.com/2018/06/trump-advisor-kudlow-north-korea-summit-fails-justin-trudeau-blame/ https://www.politico.com/story/2018/06/10/kudlow-trudeau-stabbed-us-in-the-back-635098- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Yes. The writing was atrocious, and unplayable. I just felt like the spirit wasn't really there either.- The Politics Thread
Considering Trudeau's party lost Ontario to a man people keep calling the Trump of Canada, I wonder how much longer it will be before they end up bringing in another Harper-lite.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I really loved Iva - maybe it's because I'm not a very happy person myself, so I could relate to her. When I went back and watched the episodes again, many years later, I could understand why many did not care for her and felt she was a downer and a bore, but I still feel that bond with her in a way I don't with some I was a big fan of at the time (like Shannon). I also think Lisa's acting was just so good - so so good, and so intelligent and full of depth. I think that they just got the balance wrong with Iva in her last years. I also think pairing her with John was a very stupid decision that was just too incestuous storywise, given his history with Lucinda and Emma. Iva needed a fresh partner. It's just unfortunate that so much of that performance carried over into Nola when she went back to GL. I don't think it was good for Lisa Brown to play such a heavy character for 8 years.- Old TV clips - misc.
If you have a few hours to kill here is a Bernie Barrow TV-movie from 1981, Senior Trip, with the good and bad of that particular era: - gorgeous NYC shots - Scott Baio - various soap alum who probably deserved better (James Carroll, Randy Brooks, Julia Montgomery) - Faye Grant of V fame - the "I'm not going to charge you for sex because you're a sweetie" trope that I'm sure sex workers love - vile sex pests getting kicked in the balls - pseudo-spoken word/"inspirational" songs with word salad lyrics - talented actors who would soon die in their prime of life - a story of grooming and predatory behavior from a gay man that is so insidious and shameful I am reminded of just how severe the homophobic backlash of the late '70s and early '80s was. - a Mickey Rooney cameo- Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread

Looking back I can appreciate what Bell was doing and I can understand the importance of isolated character groups. At the time I slowly grew sick of it, because many of my favorite characters at the time were forever stuck with the same people. I loathed Ryan yet Nina spent much of her time obsessing over him. Victoria was stalled in the same quad for years until Heather Tom quit, obsessing over sexy book editors. Jill spent most of her time with that dullard played by Granville van Dusen (such a boring actor for such a compelling name).- Another World Discussion Thread

I used to joke with my family back then about Nikki never leaving the house. Even when she did it was offcamera - they would have her return with myriad shopping bags. Aside from rare visits to Katherine's house or Victor's penthouse she seemed completely agoraphobic until the late '90s.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I don't really see the problem with it, to be honest. It's a bit gimmicky but they've done much worse.
