  1. Very classy.
  2. The sad thing is the closest we're likely to get is the GL anniversary episode with Beth Ehlers as Irna. I really would love to see some of her last run on ATWT. It seems like she went all out in imposing her psyche onto the show, especially since she had been burned on other soaps like Love Is A Many Splendored Thing. I would be so happy if I could ever see any of her Kim material.
  3. Supposedly Philips originally planned to kill Liz via illness. Viewers wrote in, angry and upset, so she was pressured to let Liz live. Jane House was still uncomfortable over her treatment, so she left the role. Philips continued to want the character dead, even with a new actress. I think she planned to kill her in a fire on her wedding night to Dan, but another P&G soap had recently done a similar plot, so it was nixed. This is how we got the fall up the stairs. Not long after all this, all of the actors in the Stewart family, as well as Marie Masters, were told that they were being fired, and were written out accordingly. Only after Irna was let go did they come back.
  4. My main reaction to this op-ed is I don't understand what is new about any of what is being said. The people who are already scared about Trump will still be scared. The people who won't care still won't care. The people who love him will still love him. It just feels like the NYT muckraking for attention and to show everyone how important they are - which is the NYT's main goal in life.
  5. As various people have said on Twitter...welcome to 2018:
  6. I thought San Cristobel was alright, for fairy tale fancy on a budget, for a year or two, especially with Edmund and Olivia still in the story. Once Richard and Cassie properly got together, they should have phased out of San Cristobel. Instead they recast her ex (after the first one had popped up a few times and mostly been memorable because he and Hart were the gayest thing I ever saw on GL) for some silliness with Edmund framing her for something in her past, or saying they weren't divorced, or whatever. I also enjoyed the mob stuff well enough until Ben Warren was killed. That's when Carmen became more and more irritating (especially with her overly clipped line readings) and Drew's hysteria over Ben was even more unwatchable.
  7. This is all terrible, but it's also become so typical that it's tough to react. Bob Woodward is such a hack and went out of his way to go against Obama because he didn't get enough butt-kissing. I have to admit I automatically tune out anything he says.
  8. That's a soap staple - you're lucky you never saw the Emmerdale story with Will Cairns and his captor.
  9. My main memory was the weird Obama cover they had in 2008, although I'm sure there is more.
  10. Yes, that's what I meant. John Mulaney, Patton Oswalt, Judd Apatow, Jim Carrey, among others. And of course people are saying they are all terrified of debate, when this type of pullout is what the right has done for decades.
  11. It was a different pastor. I've been to funerals where the minister just says whatever he wants, even if it hurts the family burying their loved one. It's not an experience I've ever forgotten. Making it worse is that people were saying Aretha requested him on her deathbed. I think this is why her family spoke out. Given what happened to Aretha's parents and sisters, she was, presumably, terrified of accepting death, and denied it to the last breath. Yet people were saying she chose this man and his words. Between him, the usual dramas surrounding Ariana, and Al Sharpton being Al Sharpton, Aretha herself seemed to be an afterthought at her own service.
  12. Even the last years of his first run were a mess, to the point that some felt he was deliberately sabotaging the show on his way out. If not for Eileen Davidson I really wonder how people would have felt about 96/97 DAYS.
  13. I guess given the alt-right and racist controversies, making it about "Anticipation" feels off to me. I don't feel like people are anticipating as much as possibly trying one more time. I do feel happy the cast gets another shot, of course.
  14. The more I hear about this service the happier I am I chose not to watch.
  15. I find the promo a little tacky.
  16. Another reminder of the hollowness of the "resistant" media (they disinvited him but only after various names said they would pull out). It's a shame, as the New Yorker has good moments. https://money.cnn.com/2018/09/03/media/steve-bannon-new-yorker/index.html
  17. I thought Dolan managed to play the warmer moments along with the harder edge in her first run as Margo. It was when she came back (and the show got worse and worse and worse) that things changed.
  18. I think Dolan wanted to try California. I'm not sure.
  19. It's bizarre seeing W there after the infamous 2000 SC primary. The media coverage of the whole thing was - shockingly - the Beltway talking all about itself and how much better things used to be and how they're sad that the person they enabled every step of the way isn't willing to be fake nice when they need their bylines about "bipartisanship." The media just disgusts me more every year. Hollow, craven, and completely and totally delusional at every turn.
  20. That Farrow story just shows again how truly morally bankrupt NBC News is, and has been for a long time. Anyway, I saw this sad news a little while ago.Vanessa Marquez, who played a nurse on ER for several years, was shot dead by police. I'm putting this here mostly because she made the news last year when she accused George Clooney of blacklisting her over her claims of harassment. https://variety.com/2018/tv/news/vanessa-marquez-er-shot-killed-police-1202923337/
  21. What gets me is that many said the whole FBI issue some of his allies are involved in would make it impossible for him to win. Yet the main focus is blatant racist attacks. I guess they know what their base craves.
  22. Sorry, what I meant was that I think it's about a 50% chance the GOP will hold the House and the Senate. If not higher. I was surprised he only felt it was 25%. The Senate is looking good for them, which means more money to pour into the House. The media loves Republicans and will break their backs to help them win. Add in voter apathy and voter suppression, and it's all in place.
