  1. I read about that yesterday. So glad you posted it. The work being done to unseat these DAs has been so unheralded the last few years. The SC company now seems to be saying "oh we hope we can get out of the tariffs and not lose any workers." I hope so too, but it's hard to believe. I do feel for the workers. Not so much the man in charge. https://thenerve.org/governor-commerce-silent-on-ponzi-scheme-lawsuits/ And I think he was another who was calling for the Mueller investigation to end.
  2. I'm never going to see these episodes most likely so your work makes me feel like I have. You are a great writer.
  3. Looks like, barring provisional or absentee votes changing anything, the Republicans have won the special Congressional election in Ohio. Of course it is a very Republican district, it has had all Republicans (bar about 2 years in the early '80s) since the '30s, and a very narrow win is not much, but I feel like the "close but no cigar" narrative (with help from the Greens, naturally) is likely telling us what Democrats will do in November. Always close but never enough, unless you want to play the "clap louder," game, which I don't feel like doing. In better news, Missouri voters have rejected the "right to work" law passed by their legislature. https://fox2now.com/2018/08/07/right-to-work-overturned-as-prop-a-fails/ I'm also hoping some lunatics will lose in Kansas. At least one has so far: https://www.kansas.com/latest-news/article216264760.html
  4. Alex was just a plot device for Nick and Mindy angst, then under Laibson, mostly a plot device for Spaulding drama. And lots of bad comedy. I have to admit I did enjoy her comedy with Hawk, although I can't imagine Beverlee having to play that stuff. I have only seen bits of her work as Pamela but I think that really must have been a dream role for her talents. It's a shame she was there at such a bad transition period for SB. It's a good thing that I was not on boards in the early '90s as I would have been very critical of talents like Marj and Liz Keifer, etc. It took a number of years for me to realize it was not their fault. (I will not say that about Geoffrey Scott's Billy as I think he was just a [!@#$%^&*] actor).
  5. I think Rebecca Hollen would have been the best choice to bring back as Trish, if she was willing. I wonder sometimes who Marj would have been best served playing. I think she could have been a new Spaulding relation, or a long-lost mistress of Henry's.
  6. @I Am A Swede you might enjoy this. https://www.theemmerdaily.co.uk/emmerdale-news/cast/emmerdale-news-emmerdale-stars-revisit-ww1-in-new-documentary/ There is a book coming out about Beckindale in the WW1 era. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Christmas-at-Emmerdale-Pamela-Bell/dp/1409184994/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1533499249&sr=8-1&keywords=Christmas+in+emmerdale August 1914, and a terrible war begins, one that will affect the lives of everyone in the village of Beckindale. For Maggie Sugden, left to run Emmerdale Farm on her own while her husband, Joe, is at the front, it will bring grief and loss but also independence and the chance to find a place to belong - and perhaps even to love again.
  7. @YRfan23 you are a real life-saver with letting us know about these uploads. Can't wait to watch them.
  8. Didn't they try to claim it was an illness?
  9. Josh was really a terrible man for a very long time. I remember when Reva came back from the dead, only a few months out of her amnesia - she showed up at the big ball with Alan. Josh berated her and among other things talked about how as a child she had "sold herself for a piece of pie." Even then, in less "woke" times, I was sickened by what he said. I never really forgot it. Josh was tolerable in his last years on GL but the only time I came close to liking him was when he was with Harley. I actually think Philip's return is pretty decently written, especially compared to other returns. We got a lot of angst with his son James (even if aging the character so much was silly), we got the big 4 Musketeers reunion and prom recreation (even if it wasn't the same without Judi Evans), we got the drama with Philip and Alan, etc. I also liked that he had a brief scene catching up with Reva. Looking back it is hilarious that he threw Grady off a cliff and nothing came of it. Obviously that was because the show was canceled, and unlike Goutman, Ellen Wheeler had enough sense to let some stories drop, but it still cracks me up.
  10. I remember hearing about the rape story (that reminds me Irna Philips in many ways had those JER vibes - only she was a better writer) but I keep forgetting she was recast in those years. I can't imagine fans reacted well.
  11. Thanks for sharing all the lovely photos. The hit and run story sounds like the kind of drama American and UK soaps don't know how to do now.
  12. The show brought in and heavily featured so many non-actors in those years that it's difficult for me to feel he was worse than them. Or the actors who replaced him as Chris. I tend to wonder how much of it was down to Goutman wanting to bring in as many of his own choices as possible.
  13. I thought he worked with Lesli Kay and KMH - but he and the girl who played Abigail were just not good together.
  14. That would have made sense, especially when Holly was on the show (although most of Andy's run was after she left so history repeating itself would have made sense). I agree with the comments about how awful Peapack looked, and I am also aware GL was pretty much done anyway, but I do think with better writing the production values wouldn't have mattered as much. Admittedly that was difficult with Ellen Wheeler being so heavily involved.
  15. I didn't have a problem believing Josh could become a minster - he always had extreme emotional swings, career doubts and jumping into one thing or another (especially in the '80s), he was always very holier-than-though. It's just the story didn't really have any purpose in the end.
  16. That trailer feels very underproduced, from the lazy voiceover that sounds like she's selling air freshener, to the lack of music until near the end. Andy is just out of place, especially the crass sexualizing of black men. Robin looks like the Purple Man.
  17. I'm surprised you could make it through 2015/2016, which were so grim (especially late 2015/early 2016 and late 2016). The show does feel very grim again now though, but I think the material is better than most of late 2015/early 2016. Aaron's abuse story will always be a low point for me with this show. I was more unhappy with Moira not doing more to help clear Adam's name than with the Matty stuff. I felt like they mostly used Moira for a generic PSA and then she accepted him in a few weeks. I agree about Joe - I think it's less about the Dingles winning (although that's a factor) and more about them realizing that people weren't here for a Robert vs Joe pissing contest and that was just going to make Joe a hate figure for viewers. So, since they didn't want viewers to hate him, he is...just there. He needs more Tates, even if they have to invent a few. I doubt it will happen but I hope they do pair him with Priya. I actually don't mind Graham at all, but I think the flashback episode was mostly "We're doing flashbacks - wow!" and "Ghostly vision - wow!" without enough real effort taken. And the stuff with Megan is just a bore and seems pointless, as she keeps going back to Frank anyway, even after cheating on him and trying to get him locked up.
  18. This man sounds completely insane yet it sounds like nothing is even going to happen to him.
  19. Oh look, another hard right Republican in Congress fails for other office in spite of humping Trump's leg. https://www.vox.com/2018/8/2/17639464/tennessee-primary-2018-diane-black-loses-lee
  20. She did, yes. And Zimmer (again). That must have been...something.
  21. More on Jim Jordan: http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/08/wrestlers-coach-asked-us-to-recant-jim-jordan-allegations.html
  22. Thanks. I'd forgotten. For some reason I thought Long had her planned as Christina from the start but this makes more sense.
  23. Thanks. I guess since Long created Maeve she might have been reluctant to go that far. I'm trying to remember what other strike issues she had. I know some felt the Sonni/Solita story got completely out of control.
