  1. He doesn't. It's been a rotgut show for a long time now. The same people who claim the show is now horrible were quiet, or even openly supportive, of equally and in some cases even more disgusting, outright offensive stories over the last decade.
  2. On the one hand I think Joe Biden is much more than just past actions which I think he genuinely regrets, and other than Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris he's the Democrat I could most see myself voting for, but there is also so much drama surrounding him, and I'm so tired of drama. Maybe this is what we will get from now on with any real candidate, I don't know. I saw a tweet going around today outraged over him praising Cheney. The problem is he did that in 2015, not today. People want to focus on today. Or they should want to. I think that Biden's poll numbers, which have (for now anyway) been much stronger than I would have expected, go to what you're talking about - a certain backlash against the outrage left.
  3. I wouldn't say he's even close. Corrie does not allow any producer to make a fraction of the changes she made at her soaps. You can't ruin Corrie. It's been dead for 10-15 years. Just as Emmerdale was already in terrible shape before he arrived.
  4. It's their daddy issues. They desperately want to see Trump as a strong father. I'll never forget seeing supposed political reporters talking about how Romney was so masculine it gave them a stir. This is the real basis of so much of our times - men who need to take their daddy kink into a much less destructive line of work.
  5. I'll never forget the reports of just how awful Blackwater treated the troops - things like blood on the floors. And now it looks like there are reports of tanks running over protesters in Venezuela. The cronies who claim to want the country's "freedom" will have more of a reason for their schemes, without admitting that their meddling has made the situation even worse and put even more lives at stake. Oh, and we're threatening Cuba and Russia too. I'm so glad we have such brilliant minds and leaders in the White House now.
  6. This is such a horrible situation I don't want to be glib but I just don't think it's going to happen. This man let Trump and all those other morons gas him up.
  7. Good for her. Now this is social media done right. In less happy news, the soulless piece of phlegm and his fellow cretins are back allegedly whipping up false sexual assault allegations, this time against Pete Buttigieg. https://www.thedailybeast.com/far-right-smear-merchants-jacob-wohl-and-jack-burkman-try-to-slime-pete-buttigieg-with-bogus-sex-assault-claim?ref=wrap Monstrous. And they always get away with it. Luck doesn't last forever.
  8. Well that's good. So we just lie to extremists about giving them money, instead of actually giving it? I can't wait to hear from those people who went on and on and on about Obama and Iran.
  9. Corrie has been poor for 10-15 years. Nothing ever changes.
  10. I saw the post from Sophie Turner. I thought it was very touching. After the mess of season 5, I couldn't keep watching the show, but I have kept up with it. I'm glad Theon got closure with Sansa and Bran, and I'm glad that Theon got to die on his own terms, in a way he could be at peace with. He'd spent all his life as the property of other people, and even the few times he'd had a mind of his own he'd ended up desperately trying and failing to prove himself worthy of the wrong people that he just caused so much pain and damage - to himself and everyone around him. In the end he was satisfied and made his own choice. Theon was, for me, one of the most complex characters, in the show or in the books, or on television in recent years, and Alfie Allen gave a stunning performance. I'll never forget Theon, and for all my complaints, I'm glad that I got to know him.
  11. A very moving interview with Tony Slattery, a British comedian whose work on Whose Line Is It Anyway? helped make my childhood happier, and who has since had many personal struggles. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/apr/29/tony-slattery-had-very-happy-time-went-slightly-barmy
  12. https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-synagogue-shooting-poway-san-diego-county-20190428-story.html This is just so awful. Friends identified the woman killed as Lori Kaye, 60, of Poway. Some gathered at her home to grieve Saturday afternoon, as stories emerged about her heroic act inside the synagogue. Roneet Lev, a member of the congregation, related an account from Rabbi Goldstein of how Kaye threw herself in front of him, possibly saving his life. Kaye’s husband, a physician, was in the synagogue when the gunshots started. Worshipers called him over to help victims, and he began to do CPR on one until he realized it was his wife, Lev said. He then fainted. Kaye had gone to the synagogue to say Kaddish, a Jewish prayer for the dead, for her mother, who had recently passed away, according to Lev. “The irony is, people will be saying it for her now,” Lev said.
  13. I think we're at the point where many just don't even care. It's become so rote. What annoys me most of this group are the people who love to talk about anti-Semitism yet only to score points. Some on the far right were jumping up and down with glee to make the shooting all about AOC. You could tell how happy they were.

  15. The best Cliff scene I remember is in the first season when JR ruined his bid for governor by exposing that in college he'd dated a girl named Penny, who died during a botched abortion of their baby. Cliff revealed the truth at a press conference. He said her name in such a mournful and broken way, a world away from the clown that Cliff would so often become. This is when the show still had some nuance and wasn't focused on having the same scene a million times of Larry Hagman smirking into the camera, so the pain felt real. One of Ken Kercheval's best chances to genuinely act.
  16. Thank you! Do you know if anyone else in that commercial is from a soap? I keep thinking I recognize somebody in these...
  17. I kept trying and trying to figure out who the woman at the end of the V8 ad is. Is it Tudi Wiggins?
  18. Actors aren't characters, of course, but still, I was disappointed to hear that John Rhys Davies, whom I was always so fond of on Sliders, seems to be another unhinged Brexit type. The UK seems to be hurtling more and more toward a US-style discourse, the main difference being they aren't as anti-gay or anti-abortion (yet, anyway).
  19. Bernie will get a lot of cookies and tummy rubs for even going to event at all - especially since most of his supporters have no use for women of color (beyond tokens) - but I'm glad he is getting more focus for his lack of real plans. Only Buttigieg is getting knocked for this. I agree with those criticisms, but then I think he is a vanity candidate anyway, not likely to last. Sanders has a real chance of getting the nomination.
  20. What a surprise to learn one of the leading voices at The Intercept was a Ralph Nader supporter. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2019/04/24/the-intercept-greenwald-grim-profile-media-politics-left-liberal-226710
  21. It's interesting to see some bigger voices saying what Buttigieg was flayed for - Trump and Sanders supporters really aren't that different. Many Sanders supporters support him because they hate everything of the establishment and want to tear it apart piece by piece. They have no logic or plans otherwise. They resent the idea of logic or plans. They just assume Bernie has them because he's so damn awesome. If Bernie ever does become establishment, they will likely begin to resent him as well. Luckily for them, I doubt he will, because he's likely more interested in being seen as a martyr - and in grifting, of course - to want the mainstream.
