As The World Turns Discussion Thread
The part I always remember from that is Eileen thanking Goutman, which seemed odd to me as he did absolutely nothing with her in his time at ATWT and I know some even felt that he suddenly gave Lisa more to do while Eileen Fulton was sick just to spite her (they temp recast with Carmen Duncan [RIP]) Maybe she was just grateful he didn't fire her? Sad. The other part is when Kathryn Hays talks about how she felt like Irna Philips knew her innermost thoughts when she was writing for Kim. It was so enthralling to listen to, especially as it's the closest we'll likely ever get to hearing anything about early Kim.

This will be the long-term effect of the tariffs, and no wage increases, and so on. And while people love to claim most Americans are greedy, many people who stop buying things are not likely to start back up, even if they do feel slightly more secure. The amount of people who owe taxes this year instead of getting a refund will make that even more likely.

That article is interesting, although the main focus seems to be on Bailey being let down by spineless people around him. The problem is many of his changes were never needed in the first place. The idea that ratings will soar if they cut a few categories is nonsensical. I don't believe that a lot of people who don't watch a 4 hour show will watch a 3 hour one. Many people are done with the Oscars and with all awards shows. That's just how life goes. Younger generations are not compelled to watch - they'd be more likely to clown everything on Twitter.

In more proof of our thriving economy, Payless is shutting down. Yet another store bought up and hollowed out by a Bain-esque company. https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/15/business/payless-closing-stores-bankrupt/index.html

It was odd when the writer mentioned how off it was that Babe got a best picture nomination - the movie was very critically acclaimed. If Rami does win then it would be an interesting story waiting to be told about how he became such a lock, especially since Bohemian Rhapsody was loathed by critics and mired neck-deep in controversy. He's an extremely charismatic and careful man, reminiscent of old school Hollywood in many ways. I wonder if that appeals to them.

Watching that reminds you again of what a special gift Judith Light brought to daytime. And that she got a promo devoted solely to her shows just how much they knew how special she was.

She wasn't really making romcoms like that by the time her career began fading out.

I feel like he sabotaged her (I remember how both Anthony Abbaddo and Patti d'Arbanville seemed to blame her for their firings and how unusual it felt to see a headwriter singled out so blatantly in exit interviews), but I don't think her writing suited GL anyway - the worst example probably being when Blake became Lucy Coe overnight. That could have worked, especially since Meta was still on the show at that time.

I saw them talking about how he had managed to make himself look better by declaring a national emergency.

I saw that the media was trying to spin the national emergency as smart or a win for Trump. I can't wait to see how they react when a Democratic President does the same thing... The amount of time the media is spending on helping Trump and on obsessing over Democratic divisions and how these are so wonderful for House Republicans is saddening. They will just keep pushing until they get the result they want - Trump reelected and a Republican Congress.

I'm sorry to hear that those channels are gone. To be honest I haven't watched past 1969 as I didn't care for where the show was heading and I mostly just watched with my mother, but I still liked that the episodes were around if I wanted to ever catch up. Oh well.

I pretty much boycotted CBB this year due to the Moonves issue (and I'm not much of a fan of CBB anyway) but from what I've heard Kandi made a pretty positive audience impression. She made it to finale night as well. If this is her last season on Atlanta it's not a bad way to step off. BB and its fans are a living hell, so she could have easily ended up hurting her career. I'm glad that didn't happen.- The Politics Thread
I saw that he was grilled over his Iran-Contra days earlier today - I guess that's why the GOP sprung their "surprise" anti-Semitism vote, as if they give a damn about the subject. It won't matter, the media will lap it up.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

Hamish Patel, who played Tamwar Masood for about 8 years (rarely having anything to do - only in his last year or so did he have story) has been doing a lot since he left Eastenders. I'm glad as I always thought he was underrated. I don't think this movie looks that great, especially with Kate McKinnon doing her usual mugging, but I hope it does alright.- Best/Worst Network Promo Campaigns
I figure it's supposed to be showing them romance. I'm still not sure how Rachel and Steve having a staring contest got in there.- The Media/Journalism Thread
Esquire's gotten some backlash for their cover story, in Black History Month no less. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/esquires-interview-of-white-american-boy-during-black-history-month-stirs-controversy_us_5c62ca3de4b0ab4bc4e2ad37 https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a26016262/editors-letter-march-2019/ I don't think the idea of talking with a white teenage boy in today's world is the worst idea, especially given how many on social media spend their time talking about how much they hate white men and want them to die, and so on and so forth, but the article itself is mostly just yet another Trump supporter profile, and has some very disturbing views of women to boot.- Best/Worst Network Promo Campaigns
Dying air horn aside, I like this promo, which is one of the earliest GL promos I've seen, and is a quick rundown of most of the characters of the day.- Best/Worst Network Promo Campaigns

Hannity already has the knives out, so I agree it probably won't happen. It's not as big a deal as the media makes it out to be, but yet again I'm disappointed with messaging failures from Democrats, as Amy Klobuchar, who already has enough problems with the stories about her treatment of staff, deciding to take a dig at Hillary for not campaigning enough in Wisconsin. https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/429346-klobuchar-to-kick-off-campaign-in-wisconsin-alludes-to-2016-controversy The Clintons don't forget things like that. Meanwhile, I see people I follow on Twitter (although I'm not sure I will anymore) getting upset because Sherrod Brown's campaign emphasizes "dignity of work" because it goes against progressive bonafides or sounds like caving in to the right wing, or whatever. Even now so many end up being twisted into knots over something that is absolutely meaningless. - Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
