  1. The wonderful, gorgeous, and talented beyond measure Dusty Springfield passed away 20 years ago today. I was just getting into her music at the time so it really hurt. I still miss her and always will.
  2. The tweet is gone but apparently it was this: https://www.mandarinoriental.com/celebrity-fans/rami-malek
  3. Anna Holbrook looks great. (everyone looks good for the most part)
  4. Never mind that a number of people in the US have to eat dog food to survive. It's interesting that they also refer to AOC as...AOC. I imagine it's easier (and they don't have Sarah Palin around to just make a 'funny' racist name up), but it just plays into making her seem cooler.
  5. I'm wary of how much of the coverage of this documentary is devoted to: - people who feel the need to tell us in great detail how they no longer love Michael Jackson music and how sad and wrong it was that they ever loved Michael Jackson music, waiting for the inevitable "oh poor you" tummy rub of validation. - people who are getting their "profound writer" britches on by desperately trying to tell us that no one in the past cared and now do Because Things Have Changed. Anyone who was not in a coma from 1993 on would know that many people did care. It was a part of national conversation for years. Day in and day out of trashy interviews in tabloids and on Hard Copy, Inside Edition, A Current Affair, American Journal, and all the rest. I did not listen to any of his music for many years because of the allegations. I do think some of them are likely true (from what I've heard about the recent ones I'm not too sure on that front), but unfortunately almost everything about the many decades of allegations has had the whiff of being compromised from the start, to the point where it is very difficult to make any real guess about what happened. The only reason talk eventually quieted is because he became much less high-profile, he went on trial and was acquitted, and he died. Forcing some kind of "moment of reckoning" for a man who has been dead for nearly a decade and who was already picked over for the last 30 years of his life is a road to nowhere, unless you exist solely to show everyone how woke and special you are, which is what clickbait journalism often consists of these days.
  6. It's such a right wing framing of the issue as well.
  7. I was thinking more about his election promises to Canadians (that was his big campaign slogan - "sunny ways") than how he handled the immigration issue (I'd say he handled it very sloppily, welcoming people in a grandstanding tweet then being bowled over when they actually arrived), but you're right.
  8. The Justin Trudeau (alleged) corruption saga has been fascinating to watch, in no small part because he came into office wanting to give more chances to women and Canadians of color, yet a Canadian woman of color may be his downfall. https://www.politico.com/story/2019/02/28/justin-trudeau-election-1229686 https://theconversation.com/jody-wilson-raybould-comes-from-a-long-line-of-indigenous-truth-tellers-112694 I always thought if Trudeau lost it would be because of his idealism hitting the rocks - I didn't ever think he would be so involved in corruption scandals. I suppose it's another contrast between the US and Canada. There's no way that someone would be elected in the US if they were promoting openness, kindness, and sunny ways (along with great abs and a killer ass), yet there is a very strong path for someone who is openly corrupt to be elected or reelected (especially if they're a Republican).
  9. Shocked about Luke Perry. A chill went through me. He always seems so young and healthy.
  10. She's a Trump supporter, and I've been a bit wary of her cancer treatment stories as well.
  11. Joe Biden is very much the belt buckle of the Beltway and always has been. He loves the institution and that will always guide him.
  12. John Mulaney is so adorable. I dread the inevitable outrage and cancel culture (he's had a few narrow escapes but no one ever escapes the hysteria for long).
  13. I am, but then I'm scared of whatever Trump does... Speaking of Mark Meadows: https://www.mediaite.com/online/watch-outraged-non-racist-mark-meadows-once-told-crowd-were-going-to-send-obama-home-to-kenya/ You hear all the time about "thoughtful conservatives," but their current face is about as vile as you can get, between this pig and the other media darling, "Gym" Jordan.
  14. I know money is money but there are a few people in this (namely Jason Priestley and Jennie Garth) I am surprised would be willing to go along with such a tacky, lazy idea.
  15. Beth Chamberlin was on FBI last night, looking like Bibi Besch.
  16. https://netflixlife.com/2019/02/11/arrow-riverdale-the-cw-shows-leaving-netflix-warnermedia/ Love your avatar.
  17. The only good thing about his tweets is that people are always there to remind him that he's a fat ugly drunk with a mug shot.
  18. I saw people calling her a hypocrite because of Roman Polanski, but she did take her name off the petition. Cancel culture and outrage culture never lets anyone grow or change, because moral superiority, likes, and retweets are more important.
  19. Sorry if this was already posted - it's the New Yorker's Oscar diary. https://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/an-oscars-night-diary
  20. So basically she hates the Oscars but writes about it for clicks even though she passes herself off as morally superior? How nice for her.
  21. Nepotism pays.
  22. I can never keep track of TP dates... (was the store the place we saw in FWWM?) That Lara Flynn Boyle "bad girl Donna" photo makes me laugh a bit. That was such a bad decision on the show's part - I know it was what LFB wanted, but boy she couldn't carry it off.
  23. The only reason this flop is still around is because of a Netflix deal with the CW. That deal seems to be winding down.
