Apparently a number of B&B actors liked Ingo's anti-vaxx post. Not a surprise, I guess, but just another example of why soaps and social media are a putrid mix. I would also point out that several of them don't mind putting toxic chemicals in their faces so why do they object now...

There was a scene under Riche/Guza where Jason had been shot by a rival mob, but made sure to stop by the Q mansion to read a bedtime story to Michael. After he left, Monica noticed the blood-stained stuffed animal Jason had used to hide his wound while with Michael. The scene sickened me, most of all because this was shown as an example of what a loving father he was.

It's a byproduct of how insular and meaningless soaps have become - scrambling over smaller and smaller sources of food. I guess I should be happy Twitter outrage has moved on from reminding us which actor is fat and how terrible that is.

Sabine was fired and then ads were run telling people to be happy she was fired because the real actress in the role was back. We have not heard anything about Stacey Haiduk being let go from the main show. If Eileen is playing her just in the limited series, then I don't see it as a slight. Even if she has been let go, I don't think anything here can top the crassness of that ad campaign.

Shady would be "The Real Greenlee," not Eileen Davidson returning to the role she made huge in the first place for a limited series.

Michael Nader had such a tough task, being paired with two icons. Dynasty in particular was a huge climb given how internationally popular the show was at the time, what a huge name Joan Collins was, as well as how difficult it was to find characters who could show other sides to Alexis. Michael made it look effortless, even though that was far from the case. He had such a droll, lived-in wit along with a real vitality. He knew the material he was playing was ludicrous, but something like a count moving to Pine Valley PA and having his comatose wife wheeled in during a masked ball just ended up seeming natural. Even when given material which was meant to make the character a hate figure, like Dimitri's turn as a villain in 1997, he made it worth watching. Even when he was let go in 1999 and was just given a few flashbacks with Finola Hughes to help ease her into the show, he reminded everyone of what an asset he was, how unique he was . I'm really glad he got one last chance to play Dimitri, in much more positive circumstances.

Once Maurice Benard returned in late 1998, the only thing stopping him from completely dominating was Jason and the lack of a successful pairing. Both of those were taken care of in 2000 and they never looked back.

That's well said. I think ATWT mostly got it right with Mac in that he was a well-liked character, but not a longtime favorite, and we got plenty of story for Nancy from her struggling to cope. That story was winding down at the same time as the Audrey story would have happened. At the time they got some criticism for cutting the story short but I think it's one of the better decisions that regime made, and Mac got to have a classy goodbye with Nancy (I think their last scene was her dreaming of them dancing together).

Thanks. Yes, I always thought Audrey was a bad choice for this type of storyline. I suppose it showed that GH itself did not see her as a matriarchal figure, which would soon be reinforced as she was slowly phased out of the canvas through the rest of the decade. I think it would have made more sense possibly for a character like Ruby, who was beloved but also in a more limited space (and Norma passed away only a few years later), but I think it may have just been too much for viewers anyway. Dementia is not a story soaps have done a good job with. I have never seen GH's story with Mike, but most I have seen just felt exploitive and cheap, or they focused on the wrong things (in several cases, they become, "Oh it's so sad that our heroine can't find happiness with a man because he's still stuck with that wife who has dementia."). The one I have seen that I think was well-constructed was Ashley's on Emmerdale. Casualty, the UK medical soap, gave one of their longtime nurses, Duffy, a dementia story a few years ago.

I remember reading that there were scenes along the lines of Audrey not being able to remember where her keys were. I was not watching GH at that time so I don't really know if that is an urban legend or just a story outline never fulfilled. At the time the soap press was heavily playing up how depressing the show was and blaming that for the ratings losses. Marlena de la Croix made a comment to the effect that the entire comedic output of the show should not be on Lucy's shoulders, exquisitely toned as they were. I do wonder if it would seem less depressing to us because of how bleak the show has regularly been since. I think one issue is that this period of time was very therapy-heavy, and many viewers find that type of material to be upsetting.

Bo Erickson spent last year aggressively confronting Biden and his people to try to push right wing scandals. Yglesias and particularly Josh Barro do little for me, but at least they have wound up some of the Beltway's most despicable gossip-mongers, like Ben Smith, showing what a hypocrite he is:

Looks like the uploader said earlier today that they had looked at the kinescope date and it was August 31, 1960. So I guess it was either that date or it was sold to another country at a later date... (although the GL is next part may make that less likely, I don't know).

I don't think the media cares about diligence at this point, if they ever did - they make too much money from their books and feel too important and strong and noble from war coverage. That Briana Keller person on CNN defensively snapping at an article about how Biden's people are put off by the hawkish coverage says it all. Thanks. For some reason I thought Patti's exit involved her going to college, so that was another reason I wasn't sure of the date, but if three different characters in this time frame are listed as 57-58 then it must be right.

The episode seems to take place after summer school, and Lynn Loring left in 1961 (unless that info is wrong), so I was guessing late summer of 1960 or maybe 1959 (?). I hope someone can help us out. He definitely introduces himself as Cliff, unless that was a line flub and he called himself Curt elsewhere.
