  1. And in return Susan Sarandon leaves her penthouse in another district to protest AOC. So many online people have gotten so wrapped up in making everything about themselves and projecting their delusions onto the population at large. All while real problems go ignored.
  2. Thanks for the recap. Aside from Paula Garces, who was never much of an actress (although she has aged well and she was OK on the AMC revival), the family had a lot of talent. Just so much bad writing alongside it.
  3. PAS is and was a gorgeous man. I don't think the character of Danny would have lasted more than about six months without him.
  4. I read that Murray suggested the rimming scene himself. I guess he remembered how much buzz that scene got on Looking (even if no one watched Looking). I haven't watched White Lotus but I hope it does well for him.
  5. Turner has said she lost because of "evil money" (AKA Jewish money), and her new crusade will be to make sure it doesn't happen to other people. In other words, she will go back to grifting now that her terrible campaign (so terrible she would not even say whether she voted for Biden) to a seat she and the other dead end leftists felt entitled to failed. Turner has only won a single election in her whole career. She was then appointed to her state senate seat, and has failed everywhere else. She helped Bernie to lose twice, the last time by a bigger margin than many anticipated, failed to get her cash grab People's Party grift with other scumbags like Ryan Knight anywhere, and was so bad at keeping the left in line she ended the race being jeered by Jimmy Dore and his cultists. Yet so much of the online media still give all the time and money in the world to these nihilistic and completely shameless losers, even when they, like Nina Turner, take off to go be a lobbyist and have a corporate-backed podcast in-between "populist" crusades. It just goes around and around and around. I have seen some of her sycophants praising her for not kissing up to Biden, but they don't seem to have much to say for why she chose to run as a Democrat in this primary if she is so principled. She tried to have it both ways, and she failed, because she is a shitty politician and has a terrible read on the public, in her own district and in the country at large. Of course she, and all the other pieces of [!@#$%^&*] like David Sirota, will just go on blaming mean, mean James Clyburn.
  6. If the soaps did not require actors to be vaccinated by now, I have my doubts they ever will. The soaps are written and produced for extremely conservative people. Most of them are proudly antivaxx. Hell, most TV shows are not requiring vaccination. If you are counting on the industry to move forward, you are in for a long wait.
  7. Once he went out there trying to undermine public trust in James' investigation last week you knew what was coming. Now we'll see if he resigns or if this drags on. Good for her, not letting him intimidate her the way he has so many others.
  8. Aunt Lindsey, virulent anti-masker, now has COVID, and was recently on media darling Manchin's "houseboat," exposing him along with other "bipartisan" Democrats. If this does not teach them that Republicans will bring them only but illness and pain, then nothing will.
  9. In the latest adventures of Matthew Yglesias: Contrarian, Matthew throws around a homophobic slur, encourages support of politicians who are still homophobic, then makes sure everyone knows he has no regrets for the slur, just the reaction of people who dared to be put off by it.
  10. I can't even remember how much is real and how much I'm just putting together myself, but there would also be choices like, "Laura left a message. She's in trouble again. Do you go save her, or do you go to the bar?" And Marian would also be there drinking. And the homeless shelter was called The Brooke English Homeless Shelter in huge letters, and the people who worked there hated her, etc. Yes, the Jim story was really terrible - at the time I was not as hard on it because at least it was something of an umbrella story and had some good use of characters like Phoebe, but it was terrible. And the ending with Tad freeing her by faking evidence (a safe deposit box with photos of various kids of Pine Valley) had very troubling implications for what was to come with McTavish in AMC's last decade.
  11. I can't believe this has become the norm.
  12. The only interesting thing about Pierce was when James Fitzpatrick was in the role and he was haunted and edgy. After he was fired, they made the character as generic as can be (and had started before then). The attempt to make him a romantic charmer with Maxwell Caulfield was a snore. Brooke was often seen as a self-righteous and sanctimonious bore by fans at the time (at least online), and having her adopt a daughter named Laura and go back to the Laura well over and over didn't help. There used to be a site online in the late '90s that was mostly just there to make fun of Brooke as this ridiculous alcoholic ego-driven diva, sort of a "choose your own adventure" type thing, complete with her drunkenly throwing herself at Michael Delaney and his boyfriend Brad, etc.
  13. I liked John Blazo (I thought he had dreamlike qualities that fit the part and he had believable chemistry with his family members, especially Sarah Felder), but even though Groome's Pat was subdued by the time he left, I do think it was jarring. What really hurt was how poor most of the stories were. I'm still bewildered by the scenes where he and Nana Visitor were in bed talking about how they looked like brother and sister.
  14. Initially I liked Lauren Roman, but after a while she became so bitter and angry all the time that it was just impossible to watch her. Life's hard, I know, especially given Laura's background, but she had a loving mother and a gorgeous boyfriend and a future ahead of her. Yet it did not matter. She even played a Santa Claus story like she'd just gotten out of a knife fight. The show at that time was extremely directionless and grimy, and she got lost in the shuffle. Toward the end of her run I began to care about her again, as I thought Roman did a good job in a very gross story with Jim Thomasen, but by that point she was already leaving.
  15. I remembered now - she had suggested they kill Mary off when she left. I guess they decided not to as they had successfully recast some other key roles, but they should have taken her up on it. It was very classy of her to maintain such a good opinion of the show that she returned so many times (I think she also returned for some scenes in 1982 or 1983). I know it shouldn't have been funny, but the show returning to flashbacks of her very, very soon after Mary was killed - even though she had left the role 2 years earlier - said it all.
  16. The sad thing is I think Kate offered them that possibility at one point too.
  17. Thank you for letting us know @JAS0N47. I'm glad I got to see it from someone here rather than on a generic entertainment site. Jay was so good on Port Charles, so underrated even as his character was turned into a baddie and a headcase, to the point of ludicrous and inappropriate writing choices (I think at one point they had Frank sniffing panties). He was charismatic, sexy, but also a very good actor. I think he didn't get enough credit because he wasn't the "type" of actor who was supposed to be talented. I'm sorry to hear he's gone.
  18. I think someone in the RH thread once said that Helen Gallagher recommended Kathleen. If so that may be why she stayed as long as she did. I can still remember how bad she was at getting her words out, Nicolette Goulet also had that problem at times, although nowhere near as much. Still, it confused me because Mary was established as a very witty woman who cherished every word out of her mouth. Going from Kate Mulgrew to some women who could barely be heard was...odd.
  19. When Gillian first came on the show, she was chasing after Edmund, as she was the typical European royalty, cash poor. Once McTavish came in, the character was humanized through the pairing with Ryan, as they were the classic story of the two con artists finding their hearts. Unfortunately McTavish, as often was the case, ruined it by having Gillian have sex with David for money (which was basically rape), with Ryan shaming and berating her after he learned the truth, even though she had done this to get him bail money. After that Gilian lost a lot of her personality and I lost any interest I ever had in Ryan/Gillian as a pairing (or Ryan as a character).
  20. I mostly remember people laughing at Laura Allen's weird acting choices for much of her tenure. Then the hatred kicked further in when she got Gillian's heart and Leo married her. When Culliton came in and she became a blatant scheming bitch rather than a bizarro we were meant to pity, she got a more positive reception.
  21. The New York Times does it again, misleading and lying for right wing propaganda purposes.
  22. That was how I took it at the time, especially during Luke's long, rambling, self-indulgent monologues used to make Geary's agenda clear. I took it as their having a sham marriage propped up by Laura's delusions and inability to face her rape, and Luke not bursting her bubble because of his guilt over her rape. But that's just me.
  23. Nothing against Michele val Jean, but the main story she received (deserved) praise for was Liz's part of the rape plot. The Laura rape revisitation was a mess, and was far more about how Luke and Lucky felt than about the actual victim. We were asked to pity Luke because he apparently made himself stay with the woman he raped out of guilt. How progressive! If that aired today it would be ripped to shreds. I know a lot of fans love the Guza era but trying to whitewash that material just because modern GH is [!@#$%^&*] in a different flavor is counterproductive.
  24. I agree. Community and friendship and story balance seem to be long gone, not likely to return. I'm not even sure if the show HAS any "comedy characters" now. I did read that Debbie won't be back anytime soon, and I think this is probably the least influence the Dingles have had on the show in many years, so at least that's a positive for you.
