Not to go off topic even more, apologies, but one thing I wish Congress could work on is the unemployment system. You have Rick Scott who bragged a few years ago about making sure barely anyone in Florida was able to get unemployment. That's true in many places. I know someone who in going on 6 months of unemployment, not only has received nothing, but was only able to even get on the phone with the unemployment office once. There's such an idea of moochers and how extra unemployment benefit was causing people to not go back to work, and it was a smokescreen to hide just how many people are not even getting their fair share.

I don't really have an opinion on Tom Daley, but I do think his relationship with his husband sets off a lot of red flags.

I feel like that is mostly a minority of the younger legislators in Congress because they get media attention. Other newer arrivals, like Jon Ossoff and Lauren Underwood, have worked harder - it's just Ossoff and Underwood working hard doesn't make a sexy story. Ilhan Omar tweets and AOC dancing videos do. Young for Congress is probably 40 at this point. When you get to 40 you are less likely to just be tweeting and posturing (unless you are a podcaster, where you are never going to actually want to win as you make more money encouraging nihilism and apathy). There are older legislators in office who are very effective, but when a majority of people in office are going to a 90 year old bracket, that means the individual stronger elements are less effective. If Gavin Newsom is recalled, and Dianne Feinstein can no longer serve, then that means there's a strong chance a Republican could name her replacement. (the legislature could try to pass something, but there's no way of knowing that would stand up in the right wing courts) I guess that is ageist as well, but considering some of the rumors going around about her at present, it's difficult not to think about. Then I think about Pat Leahy, who had a health scare last year and is in a state with a Republican governor. And so on. I think recess once held more of your description, but between COVID, and how dangerous town hall meetings have become, I don't think it's that true these days. It mostly just feels to me like people avoiding hard work at a time of huge crisis - as so much of the infrastructure negotiation has ended up seeming like busy work from Manchin and Sinema and Coons and so on. It feels like publicity-seeking and running out the clock, because it's more fun to go party on Joe Manchin's houseboat than care about the public.

This is why people were begging for the recess to be canceled. But a lot of people in Congress don't want to do actual work, and - not to be ageist - when most of your body is made up of people in their 60s, 70s and 80s, that becomes much more difficult. I do think Biden, Schumer, Pelosi want the bill to pass, but the more time that goes by, and the more Manchin, Sinema, and the Democrats in the Senate who hide behind them stall and get this and that taken out, the less anyone will care about what finally gets passed. Momentum and marketing are key, and Democrats are not very good at either of these.- Your daily (or nightly) thought
Quite a varied collection of actors in this SAG election video. I hadn't realized how dire the situation had gotten for older actors, to the point of Sharon Stone losing her healthcare.- The Politics Thread
The PA Senate Democratic primary is heating up, which means the far left are trying to find their new "if we appeal to Trump voters we will win this time" candidate. This is likely in reply to Will Stancil saying he hopes John Fetterman "breaks" Conor Lamb and how Fetterman will win Trump votes because of his looks. Fetterman also held a jogging black man at gunpoint, which does seem like something the far left would highly approve of. (Stancil's tweet was pathetic and embarrassing beyond belief - needless to say I will not be reading his stuff anymore)- Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
To think he left behind a baby with his selfishness. I hope that child ends up in a better place than their father did.- One Life to Live Tribute Thread
The main problem is there was no proper plan for Joey after the fling ended. It was such a captivating story, and then he was just in limbo, made worse by the arrival of Kelly, played by an actress who tanked every single pairing she ever had on OLTL.And even though Joey and Dorian, realistically, never would have worked long-term, him still being in her orbit yet being with a dead fish relation of hers felt like a slap in the face - to her and to fans of the pairing.- One Life to Live Tribute Thread
The main problem with Joey was the writing. Nathan was better early on but by his last two years he was just hanging around. He said he couldn't remember who the other guy was but they went to sightsee in New York together before they got called back and he was picked.- One Life to Live Tribute Thread
I watched Jeffcoat's interview. Nothing that shocking, but he did talk about how difficult it was to cope with all the producer and writer upheaval. He mentioned how welcoming Erika Slezak and Robin Strasser were to him, Bob Woods having fun on the set, Phil Carey and Clint Ritchie taking them out to drink during filming breaks. He said he is still friends with Jason Shane Scott and Yorlin Madera, and "Facebook friends" with Gina Tognoni. He said he was originally turned down and then months later got a call back, apparently because they were struggling to fill the role and Mark Teschner (who had known him from GH) said they should go with him. He said he did not realize until later on what big shoes he had to fill replacing Nathan Fillion. He also mentioned how ridiculous he looked when he had to be in a towel and playing a romantic type moment with Robin Strasser, as he was so young and skinny. He mentioned what a bad reaction this got online, and how he was hated online. He said that he briefly mentioned having taken tap classes when asked about his background for possible story ideas, which led to scenes of Joey dancing that he hated. He said that he spent most of his time on the show having little to do, with even the dog having more lines, and that he was happy about the Joey/Kelly/Kevin stuff that happened near the end of his run because at least he finally had something to play. He said JFP told him at one point that she had nearly fired him and the only reason she did not is because she had no idea he had such a high Q rating (from his work pre-OLTL).- Rituals
