  1. When did you start watching those shows? I know EON's decline was supposed to have started what, 83? Heh, I always enjoy your analysis of soaps, so I was hoping you were as obsessed with the older soaps as I am. There are some I don't care about seeing -- of the old ones I mostly want to see SFT, LOL, and Where the Heart Is. This one, on paper, doesn't do a lot for me, but reading some comments about it and knowing the cast from elsewhere, I get a little more interested. I also want to see all of A World Apart, because of the cast, and because of the last episode, with the christening and Clifton Davis singing "Everything Is Beautiful." I love that episode. Is any of Bright Promise available? When I saw this stuff I thought some fans here might want to read it -- I hope a few BP fans are still here. I guess BP isn't the greatest term these days...
  2. I thought someone would comment on that. He looks a bit like Bill Eckert there. Khan, is this one of those shows you wished you'd seen? All I've seen is the opening credits shot with Dana Andrews, who was already gone by this time apparently.
  3. Corriepedia also had a list of all time funniest characters, and that was mostly new characters, sadly. Sophie was also on there. It's a bit odd, because while she has had some funny moments - usually making fun of Rosie - I wasn't expecting her to get voted for that too. Then again I find her more amusing than what's become of Graeme or Becky. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=45956589&postcount=233
  4. I was wondering if those who are still watching regularly have any opinion on the Carla/Peter/Nick/Leanne story? I am so repulsed by Nick, and by what they've done to Carla over the last year, that I haven't brought myself to see it. I feel sorry for Jane Danson. She's such a fantastic actress and finally got a great story with Peter, after years of just having stories where she was second choice to a man, and now that has been tossed aside so she can obsess over the creepy old man.
  5. Do any of you know if the Thanksgiving episode of The City is on Youtube or anywhere? That was one of my favorite Thanksgiving soap episodes ever; it was right after Tracy moved to Soho. She fit in so well. I think that was one of the most seamless soap transitions I've ever seen -- it's a shame that didn't get enough credit.
  6. From the January 1972 TV Dusk to Dawn (Ideal Publishing Corp). I will type the rest up later.

  11. Yeah I meant 2007. I don't think Ian's ever been written as the one to root for in battles with Phil. I think it's been the opposite.
  12. John Bardon had a stroke spring 1997.
  13. Geez they really are running out of ideas. http://www.itv.com/soaps/emmerdale/newsandgossip/fireinemmerdale/
  14. Ian is a scapegoat. Generally they use him to try to make us pity those the show sees as good and wonderful.
  15. It's very depressing and uninvolving at the moment.
  16. I don't think the press said that much about it. A lot of fans seemed to agree with him though. Of course that was before he kept asking people to vote for him and when the story was actually good.
  17. An entertaining article on Sharron Angle's disastrous campaign. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1110/45463.html Shockingly, some in the "libertarian" Tea Party are trying to get Republicans in Congress to vote against repealing DADT. http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1110/Tea_party_group_pressures_Congress.html
  18. Wow, something interesting finally happens with the Aaron story. ...offcamera. Danny Miller's Twitter had a few comments showing his anger when Eastenders won a mental health award. He eventually added that it wasn't him, someone else had put that in there. http://twitter.com/dannymiller19
  19. I guess it's down to that matronly, weird hair she had as Jill back then.
  20. The Guardian's list of top 10 Corrie characters. Like the one for Eastenders early this year, this list has some fairly laughable inclusions to seem "relevant" (Roxy anyone) -- this one having http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/gallery/2010/nov/21/coronation-street-television?picture=368822266#/?picture=368822266&index=0
  21. I have a lot of soap stuff from the last 15 years, but sadly most of that was from when I was already angry at ATWT and never regained the love I felt for it in the early 90s. I still remember one of the first SODs I bought talking about things to be positive for with soaps and one of them was that ATWT had dumped a ton of cast members (Duncan/Shannon/Andy/Julie/et al). I was very annoyed. And of course they paved the way for some classic characters such as... I lost interest in soaps for a while over the last decade and the soap magazines went to crap anyway but this board helped me get back into them and read my old stuff again, as well as look into older stuff that is out there. I'm glad that other people are enjoying these too. I feel like it helps to keep these shows alive, in some way, and also it helps to fill in a lot of blanks for me when other people talk about memories or information the photos bring up. And since ATWT had so many longstanding characters that a lot of the faces of the past have ties to the present, unlike say GH where you will often see a ton of strangers staring at you. I had forgotten that Munker played Kimberly. Was she any good? It's a shame that since ATWT loved to bring some back from the dead they never considered bringing Melinda back. Imagine the story for Kim and Barbara. I know what you mean about wishing I'd kept some tapes. I used to tape ATWT every day in the early 90s and then reuse the tapes. I regret that now, but of course did not realize at the time. I do have a few tapes, and if I find them and ever figure out how to upload on Youtube will share them. That ATWT episode does seem very dark. I wonder how fans at the time felt. It's surprising to me sometimes to remember just how highly rated ATWT still was by 1993. I think ATWT generally was a show which managed to fly high without ever getting any recognition for ratings or buzz or any of that. It's just a shame that so many worked so hard to kill the show. I hope they're proud...
