  1. Thanks. She reminds me a little of Valerie Pettiford. It's embarrassing just how blatant they are in getting rid of black actors if they can replace them with a white actor. It's like they are making some sort of bold statement against tokenism without actually making any effort to write for black characters. It's pretty sad when 1966 GL is more progressive than you are.
  2. It's strange to me that they never did more with Tom Jr and Sandy, since they were both blank slates. They went to the trouble of inventing children for Melissa and for Jessica, but they didn't have anything with Sandy, other than her quick appearances.
  3. Generally in those days recurring seemed to mean character oblivion. I don't know if that changed until budgets began shrinking. For some reason I forget he had anything to do after he broke up with Marlena. I guess there was the Maggie relationship, and then Liz (Liz had so many love interests in a few years it's hard to keep track). I guess you can't say it hurt DAYS in the ratings but in the long run I think it was a mistake to let so many like the Hayes and Launa Sanders, and later Joe Gallison, leave.
  4. That surprises me too. I wonder if it was because they were starting to phase Don out of the show and didn't care about having ties for him. This was also when they broke up Don/Marlena wasn't it? It seems odd they'd get rid of her. I guess they were so focused on the idea that new characters had to be the salvation.
  5. Who needs a cop when you can have a dead-eyed manwhore who is cool because he's "snarky" and hates women.
  6. Thanks. I knew that Temple from somewhere...
  7. Rula Lenska - thanks to Corrie she isn't quite as "who?" as she used to be. Here she is today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wstsEM2D4zc I wish I could see Savage. It seems to me like she and James Horan made Clay and Gwyn very sexual, which none of the other actors in the roles ever did. I didn't know Selena was on that long. I totally forgot about her. I wonder what had happened to Fay Hauser at this point.
  8. A temp recast for Y&R's Selena Wylie in the 8/17/90 episode. I guess she must have been the cop or a prosecutor. Who usually played her? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjiuiynRgdQ&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
  9. That's true - Guthrie as Steve could have worked well. Who was Lorraine Temple? Was she related to Donna?
  10. Thanks. I remember reading the anniversary book not long after it was put out and being shocked and amazed that the sister who was fake and a con artist actually turned out to be a real sister (not the same character of course). I was a bit confused when reading it about how little they seemed to do with her. I was especially fascinated at whether they had any interaction, the "real" Silver and Erica. All I remember reading was that Erica encouraged her to be more scheming, which is ultimately what led to Silver going crazy on Natalie. I imagine that the late '80s must have been a tough time to bring in new female characters, outside of the ingenues, as Erica/Brooke/Natalie had a strong lock on the audience interest and the story connections. That seems to be when people like Ellen or Angie began to fade away and the only new female character in a little older age range who seemed to have some success was Skye, and to a lesser degree, Barbara.
  11. Thanks. I always forget about the Silver in the middle. What did you think of her?
  12. It would be nice to see Jeff, Tara, Kelsey, Paul again.
  13. In the They Almost Became thread I mentioned George Reinholt's comments that right after he was let go from AW, NBC tried to get him to go to The Doctors. I wonder how that would have worked out. He did bring a ratings boost to OLTL. If he'd done the same for The Doctors, that might have helped stave off some of their decline.
  14. Charles Frank said in a September 1973 interview that he had simultaneously been offered roles on AMC, ATWT, and Where the Heart Is. He said he chose AMC because he thought the role was more challenging, better written, and he joked that he wanted to tell his parents that he was a doctor.
  15. October 1967 TV Picture Life mentions that Rita Lakin had become TD's new head writer.
  16. That's funny that Ellen didn't think two different actresses in the role would work. I don't care for the idea that they gave Vicky heart after Jensen took over the role. Vicky had plenty of heart before that, especially during Anne's last few years in the role. I also don't believe that Jensen Buchanan was ever glamorous. She just seemed blah as Marley and like someone playing dress-up as Vicky. Jensen was more suited to later on when Vicky was given clothes that weren't exactly chic. They really miscalculated with how they wrote Jensen as Vicky/Marley. For the talk of how they had to do this or that with Marley for her love story with Jamie, they dropped that within about six months. I think they just didn't care about Marley. They should have been honest and chosen to leave Marley behind. They didn't have anything with Marley, aside from a guest appearance, for Heche's first 6 months or more in the role.
  17. If anyone wants any more specific dates - the October 1967 TV Picture Life mentions Bob Shaw (Robert J. Shaw) becoming headwriter. So that's a month or two before the publication date I guess.
  18. Not sure if this helps with Eric's question, but the October 1967 TV Picture Life has Theodore and Mathilda Ferro as taking over at scripting GL. So this was, usually, about a month to 2 months behind, so they took over sometime in the summer. Who did they replace?
  19. Always nice to see Caroline. The only time I sort of cared about Ridge. That layout is odd. It's like biker Digest.
  20. In a Feb. 1976 TV Radio Mirror, George Reinholt talked about how he and Paul Rauch had initially agreed to wait 3 months after Steve was "killed", to see what would happen. He said that Rauch then talked to him about The Doctors and how NBC was looking for a leading man to fill the space left by Gerald Gordon. Reinholt said he realized he was being used, and began taking other network offers.
  21. I don't think any of that was ever mentioned. If they were going to keep him as a doctor they should have kept Russ on and had them in some conflict at work. It was an odd decision to make him a doctor, as John Hudson, who was brought on by the same team early the following year, was also a medic. When I was watching the late 1991 episodes (which I guess I should get back to before they're gone) Jamie was all but obsessing over Paulina and her welfare. I think that they were initially going to put her with Jamie but it never happened. Having Jamie and Jake as rivals so often never worked for me, because Jamie just tended to purse his lips and look peeved. It was almost like a parody of a preppie and a punk, and Jamie wasn't supposed to be a preppy.
  22. 6/16/87 promo at about 3:25. Poor Liz Keifer, I really shouldn't laugh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isYoQKfHdAc
