  1. I wish they'd let Viki stay mayor. It's a role which suited her so well, and led to her being able to work for others aggressively, instead of constantly fighting her own demons and putting up with her family. This speech is just good, gutsy material. And you'll never guess who Viki names as the lead citizen of Llanview... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LafovVHWNmc&feature=related
  2. Some pages back there was discussion of the Blake story during the 1988 writers' strike. This is where Pam Long talks about it.

  5. Joe the Plumber narrowly won his primary in this district, in spite of having more money and running against someone who was an unknown. The media would love to see him win, as he's another of those types they can run endless smirky features on. http://blog.sfgate.com/nov05election/2012/03/07/joe-the-plumber-member-of-congress-could-happen/ I knew Schmidt struggled early on in her district but didn't know she had a problem now. Maybe Trump can give her a job. http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2009/09/08/59651/jean-schmidt-birther/?mobile=nc
  6. I saw a comment which said, "Sonny's pain doesn't compare to Todd's!" That tells you where the soaps have taken these characters, and the price daytime paid for it.

  8. Something tells me the show spent years hoping people forgot about it.
  9. Kucinish is a gadfly, not much else. His voting record was conservative until he wanted to run for President in 2004. He recently met with the man who runs Syria. Utah has a different type of primary than most states - it's done by some type of committee or something. Olene Walker, who was the governor before Huntsman, was very popular with the public, but disliked by her party, due to her stance on education. Huntsman was one of the two or three vying to replace her and he was selected. I'm not sure if those circumstances could be duplicated, as the other Utah governors before and after seem much more conservative.
  10. I didn't ever have a big problem with Lesli Kay, even in the early days. She was a little old school soap (quavering voice, big eyes) but she did what she could. Initially when Molly started, she got an OK reaction. Marlena de Lacroix named her as a newcomer to watch. Fans didn't seem to mind her, although I remember some comments saying they wanted to see more of another prison character (the woman who menaced Lily - I think she was a theater actress or the daughter of theater stars). When she came to Oakdale and clutched that footprint 24/7, people began to hate her. Then the idiotic schemes to get Holden just spiraled out of control. The low point was her trying to drop a gargoyle on Lily. Or the church stuff. FMB just kept showing her characters constantly, and trying to fix or change them. Molly was on constantly in those years. She made a decent couple with David Allen, but I think fans only began to warm to her more when she was with Andy. This was then thrown out the window for the affair with Reid, which certainly worked well for Lesli and Keith Colouris in real life, but which disgusted fans and led to such anger that when Colouris was fired, he blamed Internet posters.
  11. Thanks! That "online reviews" part cracks me up for some reason. I'm surprised Sherri Alexander got any acting work after ATWT...
  12. Great news. Irene was a wonderful actress. Very underrated. I'm sorry she's gone.
  13. Wrong thread I guess?
  14. Utah another state where you can't say the word gay in a school - even if a student asks a teacher about it. http://instinctmagazine.com/blogs/blog/utah-senate-quietly-passes-anti-gay-abstinence-only-bill?directory=100011
  15. I thought the packaging was fine. I always have a tough time getting them out but that's the way it is for most DVDs I guess.
  16. An interesting article on the similarity between Romney and Obama in vote regions. http://www.tnr.com/blog/the-stump/101443/the-unbearable-weakness-mitt-romney
  17. Romney won Ohio, narrowly. He also won Alaska by a few points, closer than expected. Close is still enough. There is increasing speculation Gingrich is staying in just to block Santorum from coalescing enough of the "true believer" vote to topple Romney. Maybe Gingrich feels if he can't have that role no one can. The media narrative many longed for was that Super Tuesday was the end, Romney showed how tough he is, let's move on to November. Instead, this will slog on for a while. I think Romney will still win and then go into the general election as a husk mostly powered through anti-Obama rage. Fortunately for him, that may be all it takes to get to the White House. In other news, Jean Schmidt, who was first elected to Congress in a very contentious election in 2005, was surprisingly defeated in her primary. She was attacked from the right, by a far right group who also ran ads trying to topple longtime Dem Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur. No one liked Schmidt (or "Mean Jean" as they called her) all that much, and I guess she got caught flatfooted. This is probably her most famous moment.
  18. Grant had limitless potential and effortless chemistry with everyone. Look where that got him! The show was very stiff early on, not helped by some of the stories. I think the Forresters, aside from Thorne, clicked sooner than the Logans though. I get that they wanted a shock for ratings but I think the attempted gang rape on a first episode (even if it was offcamera) was a little too much.
  19. The location was pretty, and KKL did a good job. I'm too hard on it. But that never seemed like an umbrella story to me, more like a reason to break up Brooke/Ridge again. The whole thing was a rewrite, and they never even finished the story (not letting viewers know whether Brooke or Sheila had done that). The only story which I remember coming from it was Sheila poisoning Stephanie. That was the real start of the awful musical pairings - poor Grant was thrown at a half-dozen women, then stuck with Brooke in a story which was never going to develop. This led to Rick shooting him due to "violent video games," in a story so pathetic, it was immediately dropped.
  20. I would have chosen Bill Bauer's return from the dead, or the Roger/Holly rape story.
  21. I wonder what fan reaction is to this specific time. I know a lot of people loved when the show began Bo and Hope, then Shane/Kim, and many other couples, but I don't hear as much about the time described here. I know a lot of fans were upset about what was done to Renee.
  22. Too shrill for Sarah. Petronia Paley said she unsuccessfully auditioned for an OLTL role right before being cast on AW as Quinn Harding. She said the OLTL role ultimately only lasted a few months. I guess that must have been one of Ed Hall's girlfriends.
  23. I think I'd seen him once before but this was a nice article, nice to hear more about details of their life. I wish we'd seen more of Frances on soaps between her brief Portia run and DAYS.
  24. Thanks. Not sure what's shocking or outrageous about the Beth/Phillip story.
