  1. SOD said the actors who were approached to play AMC's Eliot, the minister who was briefly involved with Brooke until she learned he'd been the drunk driver who killed her daughter Laura, were Dennis Parlato, Randolph Mantooth, and Vincent Van Patten.
  2. Obama could easily lose. The media loves Romney, they love most of his potential running mates, like Marco Rubio. Romney will have huge money. Many in the country instinctively hate or fear Obama. Gas prices and the economy continue to be a factor.
  3. I was watching a few clips which had a rivalry between Cassandra and Traci, over Brad. They are fascinating to watch, as neither are the rival you'd expect for the other (Traci had Lauren, but Lauren was more volatile). Do you think the show should have kept this going longer?
  4. As Ronald Reagan immortalized - here we go again. In spite of a huge money and media advantage, Romney lost both Mississippi and Alabama. Not only did he not win, but he may not even get second place in either state. Considering how much of the vote Santorum and Gingrich split, that's incredible. Romney is the default nominee, due to his delegate lead, and Gingrich will stay in the race, kneecapping Santorum, perhaps due to his big money backer. Romney is saying, hey, we're doing fine, never thought we'd win these states anyway. That's great, except... http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm?uuid=EA4CB0AC-7ABA-4118-92CD-80FF55A63A46 and it's very awkward to say your opponent is on the "desperate end", and end up losing to him not once, but twice. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/03/13/romney-says-santorum-at-desperate-end-of-campaign/ Most awkward is that Drudge, who still dominates much of the media coverage and is something of an icon for many in the press, forecast that Romney would win the South. http://images.dailykos.com/i/user/3/Mitt_Wins_Drudge_Headline.jpg So this goes on some more. Romney is blanketing Illinois with mega million ads, and the media will rush there to again tell us that Mitt will soon be the one and only nominee. It's a slow motion embarrassment, and one which a politician with any real aptitude would never have faced. Fortunately for him, aptitude doesn't matter anymore.
  5. I wonder if Dusty/Sierra was a Sheffer idea and was dropped. I think I would have preferred them to Dusty/Lucy or whatever Dusty was doing after Lucy left.
  6. How far did the SIerra/Dusty story go?
  7. That probably would have been done if ATWT had gone on a little longer. Or, with the pick-a-paternity wheel, he would have been Mike Kasnoff's son.
  8. As always I'm late to the party, finally getting to see Peyton Place long after anyone stopped talking about it. I was drawn into the show very quickly, mostly through Mia Farrow's soulful work as Allison. A young woman who has really never been able to be either of these things, worried for her mother, fumbling towards first love with a boy she senses is too good for her. Farrow has such a natural connection with everyone and makes her character so easy to care about. I think my favorite scene was when she walking down the sidewalk, trying her best to avoid any cracks, and then Ryan O'Neal yells for her attention. From girl to woman. And the scene also has good character detail for Rodney, as he tells her he hides being being "flip." The Harringtons are probably the most one-dimensional part of the show for me so far - I think Leslie is a bit of a coward, and I enjoy the moments when people call him out over his not so secret longings for his secretary. Rodney and brother are a little interchangeable, and O'Neal has never been one of my favorite actors, although he is competent enough here. I was surprised to see the very clear and contrived "beefcake" scenes, as for some reason I wasn't sure if they were done this way on TV this early on. For me the highlight of this family is the mother, played by Mary Anderson. In her first scene, a bed scene, so sultry, she reminds me of Julie Newmar. In her everyday scenes, with the townspeople, she seems like a different character, so cold and controlled. I would never have known Kasey Rogers played the last Mrs. Tate on Bewitched. I think the show did a tasteful job of depicting the abuse she suffers and how isolated she is. Even her great love for Leslie Harrington is full of misery and punishment. This show has a certain style which I haven't seen anywhere else. Just little touches. One that I love, and I guess can't go on much longer, is when Constance, the fallen and broken woman, has to leave her shop to go somewhere else. She staggers out into the sunlight and just looks like it takes everything she has to get through that walk. At first I didn't care for Barbara Parkins at all - she just seemed to be doing a lot of hammy acting. Once I started to see how scared and damaged Betty was, I began to care more. The scenes where she was degrading herself by doing all that writhing in front of Rodney were tough to watch.
  9. In a July 1998 interview with SID, Crystal Chappell said she had been in talks with GL for a new role (not sure what that would have been as Olivia wasn't created until about a year later), as well as taking over for Cynthia Watros in the role of Annie. Lane Davies auditioned for the role of Jerry Jacks in 1998.
  10. Unsurprisingly, Obama's poll numbers are falling again, due to gas prices. This is why I can't get behind "Obama will win no matter who he's up against." The media loves Romney and with the $$$$$$$ and the general anger many in the public feel, he could easily win. This article is a good example of what is wrong with politics today. Marco Rubio, who has done little to nothing in his political career but get hype and be used as some example of how far right views are OK because a minority has them too, is now spending all kinds of time and money on his image. This is the type of thing Republicans hated Obama for, and yet it's perfectly fine for Rubio. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0312/73908.html Speaking of the media, now that there are a few primaries in the deep South, it's time for more, "Look at these polls which show how backwards Southerners are!" That always annoys me. My guess is you can shape this type of poll for a group almost anywhere, especially if they are conservative. I get so tired of this slant, which is designed to feed ugly stereotypes and does nothing but just make divisions even harder. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/03/13/obama-s-a-muslim-ppp-polls-in-south-appear-designed-to-bring-out-bias.html

  14. This story was so confusing to me. The guy Paul was talking too was a recast of the guy Phyllis had dated to make Danny jealous, right? Or is this another man??

  16. Very happy for both of you
  17. I do wonder how far planned Sharon's story is. Maybe that was the disagreement? Either way I think this may be for the best, a fresh era starting with Sharon's return. I just hope they get better producers to come in than those who came to Hollyoaks after Kirkwood left.
  18. I haven't watched yet so I can't judge, but that sounds disturbing. I kind of wish they'd interviewed Tina Brown, as I read some of her accounts of Whitney's drug spiral and they were harrowing. The part which stayed with me was when she had scars all over her legs
  19. I mentioned that a while back - I think Gawker had an article on it. Apparently a few years later they met at an awards show and had a good laugh over it.
