I was reading an old Marlena column written after Erica lost custody of Bianca. She said she didn't understand why Erica was behaving so immaturely, complete with wearing a gold lame skirt to court, that she thought Erica was supposed to have matured, and she didn't know if the show expected viewers to pity Erica or not. She also wasn't thrilled with Lucci's acting in the court scenes. How did you feel?

Sloan. It was implied that she was with him because he reminded her of her father, to the point of having nightmares where Sloan was kissing her only for her father to be in his place. I was trying to explain why fans who wouldn't have objected to Eterna might have objected to a story like this. In that year or so of story I thought it was well-handled, but long-term, I do question whether it was worth it. The story was used to do a lot of damage later on.

Eterna is larger than life. Viki being raped for years and falling in love with a man because he subconsciously reminded her of her rapist is...not.

Yeah, you're probably right. For some reason I thought she went by Niki in that place she and Roger lived in during her pregnancy. I think I got it backwards though.

Thanks for that writeup. I haven't watched any of those yet and haven't known if watching them is even worth it. Now I'll know more about what to look forward to. I'm glad that the Jill/Frank stuff at least had promise. I was reading some little Digest writeup on Robin Greer (Sydney - I guess that was one of Max's group?). She said she left the show because her husband was based in California and she was tired of flying back and forth. She said she didn't even know whether Sydney had jumped or been pushed, I think.

I couldn't remember if he'd died or not, but yeah, that would have been off. I still wonder if they might have tried it though - imagine if they recast him and said he'd been going by Walter Balsom and had been with Roxy.
