  1. Making my way through the first few episodes of season 2, and I wondered what the original season 2 premiere might have entailed. Apparently it was so listless or difficult that it helped AMC push Frank Darabont out. I thought the premiere was decent, aside from the clumsy as hell intro with Rick recapping over the walkie talkie. The sequences with the hiding under the cars and Sophia going missing were terrifically done. I also thought that the moment in the church when they realize it's full of walkers, dressed in their Sunday best, was just the right tone - weird and crazy and a little funny and also so normal. I don't normally find the walkers on this show to be frightening (the people frighten me), so this use of them is something I appreciated. And I liked getting to see Rick and Darryl working together. I know they were shocked and awed and it was the beauty of nature and had been a terrible day, but I still couldn't quite believe both Shane and Rick would have let Carl wander up to the deer. I thought that was a little silly and too much of an attempt at being "cinematic." I was almost immediately impressed with Herschel's character. He's a little hokey, but I think he effortlessly fills a patriarch role the way Dale doesn't. While Herschel is presented as strong but also somewhat delusional, Dale is too right, too good, and mostly seems like a crazy-eyed prop spouting "voice of the audience" dialogue. He also has more charisma. I also liked Patricia. I think the actress playing her was too good for that throwaway role. It's the same issue with Carol, although fortunately they have kept Carol around. I still don't quite see what made Lori so hated by fans. She's somewhat cold, and selfish, but so far I don't see her being as manipulative or passive-aggressive as I often see her accused of being. Perhaps the worst is to come. I know she said she was tempted to let Carl die, but I mostly saw that as her bargaining over the likelihood of her son dying, trying to find something to cling to so that it wouldn't be as awful. I think one problem is Sarah Wayne Callies just isn't a very good actress most of the time. Maybe it's because people watched this a week at a time, instead of relatively quickly. Andrew Lincoln was wonderful throughout all of the Carl shot stuff. He doesn't get enough credit. I think it's because Rick is a little too real. He's weak sometimes, he questions his choices, he cries, he breaks down, full body breakdowns. This isn't the idea of what a leading man is supposed to be. Andrea has this strange habit of flirty scenes even when the material doesn't call for it (like when she and Darryl were looking for Sophia). Maggie's entrance on horseback - nice idea on paper...not well executed. I was rolling my eyes the entire time. It's too bad, as I like Maggie. I especially liked the scene where Glenn tried to help her through her grief by talking with her about the people she'd lost. The scene where Shane cleaned the blood off Rick's face was so tender, and just powerful.
  2. I think so, yes.
  3. McTavish only had a few months, if that, to write for her. I'd put any blame or credit for her on Broderick/Behr.
  4. I think McTavish had plans for Cecily (she was supposed to be a pot-stirrer and live with Phoebe) and when she went, they went with her.

  7. Jim Storm was closer to original hunk as he played Larry first. Apparently the way to Jim DePaiva's heart is to dress like you're in Flower Drum Song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SqCtTEwkzw
  8. Nice promo. Probably better than the story if it's the Silver stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE0aGAwNAw0
  9. I put links in the trainwreck known as the Bridget Dobson interview thread. I think it's on page two or three.
  10. She looks like Orphan Annie. They kept using that set up to the early 90s, right? The tone of the show seems kind of off around this time, shown in those Craig/Betsy scenes. Betsy: I love banana daquiris. Craig: They're nice. Wait...they remind YOU OF STEVE! YOU'RE IN LOVE WITH ANDROPOLOUS!!!! Betsy: Wait, no, I... Craig: It's OK. It's OK. (next scene) Craig: I tried. Betsy: It's fine, honey. Craig: Honey? YOU LOVE STEVE ANDROPOLOUS!!!
  11. saynotoursoap can answer this better than I can, but the Dobsons brought in Amanda and Lucille, had the triangle with Eve and Ben, had her marry Ben (I think), and had also laid the groundwork of her being Alan's daughter. Marland wrote Lucille's demise, the trial, the reveal, and the rest after that.
  12. Donna Mills, Joan Van Ark, and Michele Lee will be on The Talk today.
  13. I'm trying to make my way through Walking Dead, but will soon.
  14. Thanks for adding this. I remember at the time it seemed a little short, and I wanted more. At that time both ladies were clearly being put into smaller and smaller roles. I do want to watch this soon. I'm always trying to catch up on something else at the same time.
  15. I wish we could see Phoebe as Penny. This is a weird scene between Whit and Lisa (close to Eileen's leaving). I wonder if Eileen hated the "you're a half-wit" line and camped it up to show how stupid it was. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBfAtpGrjqw
  16. I'd never seen that photo of Dean. It looks like an actress trying to play doctor - doesn't work too well.
  17. On AW, a few years after Y&R, he was a big joker, which helped lead to his firing - if he was like that on Y&R it might have annoyed Conboy.

Believe is a terrific album. A few songs are a little weak but all listenable, with my favorites being Dove L'Amore, The Power, We All Sleep Alone, and Strong Enough (even if some of the lyrics on that annoy). I know WASA is a remix, but I prefer the remix. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-RDwL1Nrpc
  19. That's a great site, so much info and detail. Sophiya Haque has passed away. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-21062175 She was on Corrie in a short term role as Poppy, a barmaid Liz McDonald met at a "keep fit" class. She was strong and sexy and could have been a great character. The show barely used her, and her run ended when Becky fired her and dragged her out of the pub by her hair. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=949A5bscrGQ
  20. Was that book just a recap, or an original work?
  21. Never seen Rebecca like that before. Was Nick related to Valerie?
  22. Julianna and Robert Colbert were gone within a year or two.
  23. I guess torture porn is still a big hit? I know 24 was all about the torture porn. I watched this tonight - or parts, anyway - and it was about 50% torture porn. If it works, then good for them, I guess, but I can't say I want to see it. Sam and Dean are dead zones in their scenes together. Actually Sam is like that with everyone. Nothing going on.
  24. There's another one with men and a woman...I think Julianna is in that one, with the young guys.
  25. That's nice. Not a fan of the headband though.
