The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread
Finally watched the full episode. I get the idea of starting out with nothing and then building up, and that's where Rick is now. I hope the execution works, because some of it is a slog, like the tension with Michonne. This is one case where I would be happy with less realism. Realistically, they have no reason to trust each other, and he would be dubious about wanting her around, but onscreen it just further isolates her character. I think she needs to be opened up. As of now there's zero reason why she is on the show. The rescue scenes weren't all that memorable, but I loved seeing Maggie shooting people. I know it's patronizing but I think seeing women kick ass on shows like this brings a certain thrill and a drive, especially when it isn't forced, when you can just see the character being strong and tough. I wasn't upset by Daryl leaving, because I think he has to be alone with Merle again to realize he needs more. I thought the scene was too busy, too many people. I enjoyed the slight smirk on his face when Rick knocked Merle out. Carol's talk about Merle and about Daryl was beautifully written and acted. Carol and Herschel both do a wonderful job making these "heart" scenes seem genuine, which I never felt with Dale. I like Glenn a lot, but when he gets the "man pain!' stories, like freezing up in the fight against Randall's gang because Maggie said she loved him, I don't care for them. I'm more interested in his recovery from the beating than in his making Maggie's assault about him. I'm glad they put in the Maggie/Herschel scene. I very much needed to see that conversation, especially when he asked her not to lose her spark. I'm glad they didn't just treat Oscar's death as a throwaway, and instead had several characters ask about him and mourn him. I was watching some of the early episodes of this season again and I think the actor had real potential. I dislike the idea that he was brought in as some sort of interim black guy. The actor deserved better. I actually thought Laurie Holden held most of the Woodbury aftermath scenes together. I liked the initial scenes of Andrea dealing with the death and panic in Woodbury, and I liked her confronting the Governor and being somewhat repulsed by his keeping info from her as well as his callous attitude toward death. I liked that she still wasn't giving up. This was shot to hell with the speech, which was poorly written and not very well acted, and was marred further by the extras going from angry to soothed and inspired in about as much time as a tampon commercial. The extras were just terrible. The scene was one of those "I'm watching a TV show" moments, and TWD usually doesn't have those I like Tyreese and Sasha, and the way they and the others in the group (who are more wary and I can see them betraying the prison group soon) were used in this episode. I had to stop watching the scene where Rick went nuts at the end, it was just too much for me.

ANOTHER WORLD 117 Carl confronts Iris
So many great scenes in this. I loved Carl's line about "one...big...orange." I like the Bridget/Jake bonding moment and Lindsay overhearing. I keep forgetting LK plays Stacey in this, and that she got back together with Derek. Stacey was so judgmental, and you really pick up on this in your writing.

Glee: Discusion Thread
It often seems like the alt couples on these shows are far more popular than the real ones (hell I ship one and I haven't cared about most couples on TV in ages). I guess fantasy is usually better than reality, although I won't be surprised if some show finally tries it soon (making a popular alt couple into a real one).

I thought it was going to be something about Kurt/Blaine. Do Rachel and Quinn share scenes now? I keep reading about what a huge ship they are, but I don't hear about them having all that many recent conversations.

The Doctors Discussion Thread
Thanks for reading. I can never remember who produced Search in what order. I guess it was Bunim and then Lee and then Barnett? There's such a fascinating debate over "old" and "new" soaps in the 70s. Most of the soap magazines didn't directly talk about it, just other publications. The biggest exception is Daytime TV Stars, where there was constantly some debate over "old" ATWT vs. "new" shows like Y&R and AMC, and Deborah Channel repeatedly talking about how classic ATWT was, how much payoff you got, and how shows like AMC or How to Survive a Marriage paled in comparison. By that time, the mid-70s, The Doctors didn't get as much coverage.

More press fawning for media darling Marco. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2013/02/14/how-marco-rubio-is-trying-to-turn-his-sip-slip-into-a-political-win/ I think the one I liked most was the article at The Fix which said that he was far to the right but that doesn't matter, because Obama was a liberal. Only the 'liberal' media would try to spin positive vibes from someone voting against the Violence Against Women Act. If the media is hot over an extremist, they go all in.

ANOTHER WORLD 116 Janice plots against Rachel
Nice to see Christy being integrated into Jack's story, Jack being integrated into the larger canvas. Paulina smiling and waving cracked me up. Janice is a mess. I guess Rachel is used to mentally unstable behavior so it doesn't show up on her radar.

Glad to see Toni worked back into the story. Carl is going back to his old paranoid, controlling self.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I'm sure this has been around somewhere but I'd never seen it. The plot focuses on Jeff Baker, the love of Penny Hughes' life, being in the hospital for heavy drinking. This also includes some snippy and cold little scenes with Frances Reid, who would have been a great interfering villainess on soaps in another life. The lesson of this episode is - don't go to San Diego, they'll make you into an alcoholic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9J0QTJSnLpU

Thanks. I don't know very much about Ira Avery. That's interesting about Philip Brown. All I'd ever read was that he supposedly didn't get along with Maree Cheatham. I think SOD panned her work at Search when Joanna Lee came in.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Ask her to pose with a cameo and I think some fans here would send you some money. If you can find clips, or whatever, you'd probably enjoy her role on Supernatural; she had some good one-liners, and had fun in the role.
