Y&R to air classic episodes
How long ago was it when ABC Daytime wanted to roll out several classic episodes a year to cut production costs? Anyone can refresh my memory on why that didn't last long? Besides the morbid reality that they cancelling OLTL and AMC probably cut all the costs they needed to cut... I'm excited to see more older Y&R episodes the way they were originally presented so many years ago. That Victor/Nicki wedding a few NYEs ago was great, and I would love to just have that look and feel of classic Y&R on my TV again.

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I don't know if this has been mentioned here or not, but Amazon Prime has, I'm assuming, the complete run of episodes from 1993-1996 available with a Prime membership (not as part of Britbox). I wish they had 70s episodes. Wow, how did I miss this? First, I hear of Neville Buswell's passing several months after the fact, now this. RIP, sweet Sheila. I've loved all of my spells of Emmerdale obsession over the years, and they've always centered squarely on the Farm years. I simply have no interest in anything after Annie and the Sugdens were sidelined. What a great, strong, take-no-sht matriarch, classic in every sense of the word.

Was this a different role from Kevin Davis? Sounds like the same character.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
And honestly that’s all you need on a soap such as this. Just a lil surprise every now and then. I can’t say I’ve heard that phrase before. How in the world did we miss the news of NB’s passing this past Christmas?! What a charming and charismatic actor who was at the heart of classic Corrie, can’t believe he’s gone.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Has Corrie ever had any nudity? I’m watching a 1975 episode, and Ray is getting dressed while talking with Deirdre. He has shirt on over underwear, but the underwear are extremely tiny, leaving lots of butt and a very quick glimpse of bulge. I thought that was rather a lot for an old-fashioned soap in the 70s. Not complaining at all, though, because Neville Buswell was immaculate.

Netflix: One Day at a Time
Forgive me if it's been said already, but is the show available anywhere else, like Hulu? Wow, in the process of looking to see if it is, I've learned that Pluto TV debuted a new 24/7 channel for the original series last night in honor of the new series's return! They're airing the first six seasons on a loop with some episodes of AITF sprinkled in as well. Simply amazing that they made it a purpose to highlight the original series, especially when the success of a reboot sometimes means the fading out of the source material. Alas, it seems like Pop is the only legal way to see the new season. I'm sure I can find it somewhere, but I really wanted to watch it in a way that helps the show.

Game Shows
In preparation for Monday's premiere of CONCENTRATION, I've been doing work at home with the soundtrack playing from TVPMM, and I absolutely adore the music and can't wait to regularly hear these lovely TPIR-esque cues. The main theme can sound pretty basic at first but Edd did such a great job adapting it into different tones and moods for various uses throughout the program. This is really going to be a great addition to Buzzr's lineup. Concentration is one of the longest-running game show franchises in the genre's history (nearly 25 years), and the original series was extremely popular, but no version of it was ever rerun until Classic Concentration joined Buzzr a few years ago. It's just nice to see this much-revered format getting a new life in reruns, and I can count myself as a new fan who would've never gotten into it if not for Buzzr.

Primetime Soaps
Can you DM me the channel? Please and thank you! I'm excited - UPS finally delivered by copy of The Yellow Rose on DVD (ordered before the craziness!). I can't wait to delve into the dollar-store Dallas!

Interesting. Hopefully that also means Prime Video.

The Classic Film Thread
Oh how I love this and always will! I watched SUNSET BLVD. for the first time ever a few nights ago and it's just so nice to watch a movie that's been hyped up as one of the greatest for so long and then realize that it absolutely deserves all of the hype. I didn't know how much of the production of it was driven by Glo Swanson's own experiences, but that made it all the better, and it drives home just how timeless and real that story is. Many of our favorites are getting their Norma Desmond on somewhere in this country, and it's heartbreaking.

Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
It really sucks! Today, talk began of our school year being over, and I was flooded with Remind app messages from my seniors who wanted to know if it was true. We haven't gotten there yet, but I fear it'll be soon. I do believe that no school in the country will officially "cancel" a graduation ceremony and just mail diplomas home. The backlash would be immense, and the parents wouldn't allow it. I'm the sponsor of the prom committee at my school, and I fully intend to give those kids a prom, be it in May or August or whenever.

Did they mention an Amazon app? That would be perfect for me.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Did we know that Anna Stuart and James Cromwell have been married for over 5 years now? I mean, I knew they were together, but apparently their wedding was at Charles Keating's home not long before CK passed away. Cromwell might be pushing 80, but that man could still get it...

Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
Today officially starts my four weeks of being out of work since the governor issued a proclamation closing all K-12 Louisiana schools until April 13. Part of me is very silently thankful because I'd been drowning in work for over a week and saw no light at the end of the tunnel, but I'm mostly just sad and confused for our kids, especially my seniors. They're coping the best way they can (which, for them, means making memes and TikToks), but they're worried about how/if/when they will graduate, what will their senior prom look like, the essential ending of the spring sports season before it even really began, etc. I know these are trifles in the grand scheme of things, but they've worked hard for years, and now that special season of culmination that everyone gets in exchange for that hard work is not happening because they're living in what feels like a bad sci-fi movie. Please keep all of them in your thoughts.

Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
Well, I'm not quite sure why major countries such as France, Germany, and the US would shut down in response to a disease that is not rapidly spreading among their own populations.

Game Shows
His name was far back in my brain but I finally remembered it as Bruce Baum. He's terrible, and yes, it's hard to watch poor Charles sit there and try to make it work for Gene even though they both knew it just wasn't working. The magic was gone, and it was so clear that MG belonged to the 1970s. It just didn't work in this new format, even the set was too big. The 90s series with Ross Shafer was much, much better, and might've survived had it not come out in the dying era of daytime game shows. MGHS Hour was on NBC. The 70s series definitely had stars from non-CBS programs, but it's hard to tell if they were on the network series or the syndicated series.

Game Shows
I've been watching Classic Concentration when I can on Buzzr. If I'm home Saturday afternoon, they have several hours of episodes, and I love it. So weird to see Alex in such casual clothes, but it's nice to see him in a less formal game environment. It's also a great play-along game. Speaking of Concentration, I'm super excited because the Jack Narz-hosted syndicated run from the mid-70s is joining the Buzzr lineup at the end of the month. I'm not sure when it'll air, but I've seen a rumor that it'll be replacing The All-New Let's Make a Deal. So, so fitting since it seems like they'll be airing episodes from 1976, which is around when the show starting being moved to late-night/early-morning time slots. Now, over 40 years later, it'll air in the primetime access slot that it had been shoved out of. I am NOT a fan of the MGHS Hour AT ALL. If anything proves that the stars made the show for Match Game AND Hollywood Squares, this is it. I'm thankful Buzzr gave it to us so check out, and I guess they'll go through the whole run, but they can take it off weeknights after one run-through and put something else there. I'm holding out hope that they'll one day get their hands on 70s and 80s episodes of TPIR.

Great news!!! The series will air regularly on Decades weeknights following Dark Shadows!! I’m assuming they’ll be going through the entire series. My DVR is READY. It starts this coming Monday, March 2.

Dark Shadows Discussion Thread
RIP to Robert Cobert. DS truly did have a great stable of cues to use, probably one of the most recognizable features of the show. He did a great job of creating themes for characters/settings along with just general background themes. My favorite is probably Angelique's theme. "A Darkness at Collinwood" - iconic.

Saturday Night Live: Discussion Thread
That was...interesting, both of them. The performances were funny but yeah, I'm so confused as to the stories they were trying to tell. Why two Dixie Carters? Why Alexis and Dominique as men working in a coal mine? I'm so confused.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I recently thumbed through my copy of Worlds Without End and came across an appropriate quote from Carolyn Culliton: "I'm from the MIdwest, and it used to drive me crazy when cities like Springfield and Bay City, which are in the Midwest, sounded like New York. If you say it's in the Midwest, you must write about the Midwest. I think it is important to understand the customs of the area. You've got to know where Chicago is because everybody in the Midwest knows where it is. Taking cabs and living in lofts are details of New York life that do not belong in a Midwestern setting. I think the audience says, 'That's not true,' and they don't want to watch as much."

I didn't catch those, but man, they had tons of great guest stars in almost every episode.

What Are You Watching/Binging/Streaming Now?
I love DPP!!! I could live off of DPP, Hoarders, and 600-lb Life every day for the rest of my life. Some episodes really are too gross for me to ever want to see again, though. There was the one guy who lived in the trailer park and had (I think) a lipoma that was already partially exposed and smelled like "ten dead rats." I'm glad she was able to fix that for him, and IIRC, he even hooked up with one of the ladies in the trailer park afterward, but I'm never watching that one ever again.
