  4. After portraying the role of Sam McCall on ABC’s “General Hospital” since October 2003, Soap Opera Network has learned exclusively that Kelly Monaco is departing the daytime drama series after the network decided to terminate her character. According to sources, the Sam McCall character is being killed off and will last appear in Port Charles this fall. Sources also say that Monaco was “blindsided” upon learning of the decision. Before joining “General Hospital,” Monaco was best known for her role as Livvie Locke on “Port Charles,” a half-hour spinoff of “General Hospital.” Playing the character from 2000-2003, Monaco segued to the long-running hour-long drama following the cancellation of “Port Charles.” Monaco has been nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards throughout her career, first in 2003 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role on “Port Charles,” and again in 2006 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her performance on “General Hospital.” In 2005, Monaco competed during the inaugural season of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” where she won the coveted Mirror Ball trophy. She returned to the series in 2012 during the show’s 15th season, dubbed the “All Stars” season. She came in third place with professional dance partner Val Chmerkovskiy, who later appeared on “General Hospital” as a boxer. Monaco again returned to “Dancing with the Stars” in 2017 for the show’s 25th season, performing the rumba alongside Terrell Owens as his professional dance partner Cheryl Burke. A final air date for Monaco on “General Hospital” was not known at press time. 8. Effective Monday, September 23, 2024, several Disney-owned media networks will see their mobile and connected TV apps disappear after the company announced late last week that it would be shuttering the ABC app, DisneyNOW, the Freeform app, FXNOW and the Nat Geo TV app. ABC “Even though the ABC app is heading off into the sunset, you can still catch the latest episodes of ‘General Hospital’ or ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ stat! You can keep voting for the next ‘American Idol’ or your favorite quickstepping, spray-tanning teams on ‘Dancing with the Stars,'” read a message on ABC’s website announcing the change on Friday as it referenced content and services currently found in the ABC app that will remain available on ABC.com. Despite the shutdown, Disney notes that viewers will still be able to watch all content currently available on the apps, including on-air, online and On Demand, through each network’s respective website*. Additionally, certain network content will also be available to stream via a paid subscription to Hulu and/or Disney+. Full episodes of ABC and FX content can be streamed the next day on Hulu while Disney+ houses content from National Geographic, Disney Channel, Marvel and Star Wars, among other brands. While no reason was given for the shutdown at press time, it’s been reported that Disney is preparing to launch Live TV channels on Disney+, a service currently featured within each network’s respective app and website. “The company is developing pop-up live channels aimed at entertaining viewers who don’t have the time or energy to scroll through viewing options,” The Wall Street Journal, reported last month, citing people familiar with the matter. Examples of channels in development within Disney+ include an entire play through of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and a channel devoted to airing every episode of “The Simpsons” from the beginning, among other options. “General Hospital” ABC As for current Live TV channels, such as the “General Hospital” Spotlight channel, they will remain available on both the ABC app and ABC.com until September 23. Thereafter, viewers will be able to enjoy all their favorite shows from ABC, Freeform, FX and National Geographic all in one place, via ABC.com. Similarly, Disney Channel content (including Disney XD and Disney Junior) is expected to remain available for viewing via DisneyNOW.com after signing in with a participating TV provider. Disney’s decision to shut down its media network apps follows an industry-wide push that has also seen Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount shutter apps for their respective media networks. *Note: To access all content available on ABC.com, Freeform.com, FXNOW.FXnetworks.com and NatGeoTV.com, you must sign in with a participating TV provider. ABC News content, including ABC News Live, will remain available via ABC.com, ABCNews.com, and the ABC News mobile and connected TV apps. 10. After dating for several years, “Days of our Lives” alums Arianne Zucker (ex-Nicole Walker) and Shawn Christian (ex-Daniel Jonas) finally made things official when the two got married last weekend at the Jacobs Berry Farm & Event Venue in Gardenville, Nevada, just 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe. “It’s official! 11. The 15th and final season of CBS’ “The Talk” will kick off on Monday, September 9, Soap Opera Network has learned. The news marks the first time since at least June that the veteran talk show will feature a slate of all-new episodes. Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell and Sheryl Underwood are all expected back as co-hosts, with Rob Crabbe continuing to serve as executive producer/showrunner. In the case of Underwood, the final season fulfills a two-year deal she signed back in 2022 which would see her continuing to co-host the daytime talk show through Season 15 and provided her with a first-look development deal with CBS Studios. The final season of “The Talk” will conclude in December. “The Talk broke new ground when it launched 14 years ago by returning daytime talk to CBS with a refreshing and award-winning format,” said Amy Reisenbach, President, CBS Entertainment, and David Stapf, President, CBS Studios, in a joint statement announcing the show’s final season back in April. “Throughout the years, it has been a key program on CBS’ top rated daytime lineup as it brought timely, important and entertaining topics and discussions into living rooms around the globe.” Although no specific details have been announced on how the show will bow out, Reisenbach and Stapf revealed in their statement that the network and studio planned to celebrate the show and give it the proper sendoff it deserves. The duo also thanked the show’s current and former co-hosts, colleagues and crew members for their contributions to the show over the years. “We truly appreciate the skill, creativity, and dedication everyone involved brought to the show every day. And of course, we thank the numerous guests who appeared, and the millions of viewers who tuned in daily,” they said. Michele Val Jean Sonja Flemming/CBS In January, the hour-long daytime drama series “The Gates” will replace “The Talk” on the CBS daytime schedule which also encompasses game shows “Let’s Make a Deal” and “The Price is Right,” and soap operas “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless.” “The Gates,” the first brand new soap opera in development for a broadcast network since the 1999 launch of NBC’s “Passions,” and the first expected to feature a predominantly Black cast since the 1991 conclusion of “Generations,” tells the story of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community. The series is created by Michele Val Jean (“The Bold and the Beautiful,” “General Hospital”), who serves as showrunner and executive producer. 13. Soap Central has officially changed its front page to the new format as it fully integrates itself into Absolute Sports and the layout the company uses for sites it owns such as Sportskeeda. That said, there seems to be an effort to retain the Who's Who and About the Actor bios with links to the pages remaining under each show's menu list. Currently, the Who's Who continues to display pages using the old Soap Central design and the About the Actors page is not a page at all - it only lists the individual .php files for each actor. Also, the pages for the canceled soaps remain active, although the new website does not link directly to any of them.
  14. Essentially, they are using variations of a select group of current SON Community members' display names and using the comment section on the website to post vile things about other posters they dislike, including Toups and me. I don't care what people say about me, and I'm sure Toups doesn't care either, but it's troublesome that someone finds it worth their time to do something like this just because they have an apparent vendetta against people who post here. Note: To be clear, this individual(s) does not have access to any internal data (email address, etc) that would allow them to post as actual members of the SON Community.
  15. Correct.
  16. As previously reported, “The Drew Barrymore Show” has been renewed for a sixth season ahead of the show’s Season 5 premiere. In an interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” host Drew Barrymore spoke on securing two seasons and how she had to practice physical distance in the early era of the daytime talk show. “I can’t believe it. I’m so excited because I just want to stress how rare this is and how much you know if you’re lucky enough to be on a show it needs runway. It needs time and a lot don’t get there, and we were not likely to get there, and I always think that when good things happen you should talk about you know that it, it wasn’t just easy, it wasn’t just handed,” commented Barrymore, who spoke with correspondent Denny Directo while on the set of game show “Hollywood Squares,” which will feature her as the center square. “We had a lot of years of uncertainty and so this feels all the more delicious because of that.” “Um, well I’ll try to practice physical distance which is not my strong point…,” notes Barrymore when asked about keeping away from her guests. “It’s not everyone’s favorite but I’m sorry to those people. I think that first of all we’re always gonna be big on joy and laughter and feeling good, and that was something I always wanted to do, but I never thought we would launch in a pandemic and trying to lean into the joy and the feel good and the comedy at that time was real weird and wacky.” Season 5 of “The Drew Barrymore Show” premieres Monday, September 9. Check local listings for time and station, or visit thedrewbarrymoreshow.com for more information. 17. One major thing I forgot to mention is that the disparaging remarks are being made by someone posing as various user names/profiles associated with current posters of the SON Community. While there is no current evidence or any belief that this situation involves any of those posters from the SON Community, it is clear that someone who either currently visits or has previously visited the SON Community is taking out their anger, frustration, and hate-filled mindset and placing it on the main Soap Opera Network website's comment section to cause division and discontent among posters.
  18. Technically it's a "working title" (forgot to mention that). But it's currently the title unless something changes later.
  19. In addition to announcing that production has begun on the all-new holiday movie “Home Sweet Christmas,” starring Candace Cameron Bure and Cameron Mathison (Drew Cain, “General Hospital”), Great American Family revealed that the previously announced “Jingle Bells, Wedding Bells” will not be going into production in 2024. Cameron Candace Bure, Cameron Mathison Great American Family “Jingle Bells, Wedding Bells” was first announced in July as the next Great American Family movie that would star Bure opposite Mathison and would premiere in November as part of the network’s fourth annual Great American Christmas movie franchise. Bure was to play Gracie, the Peachtree Inn’s perfect wedding planner whose mantra “No problems, only solutions waiting to be discovered” makes blushing brides’ dreams come true. When Charlie (Mathison) brings his sister and future brother-in-law to their former hometown of Butler, South Carolina, expecting to create a magical Christmas Eve wedding at the Inn for Lindsay and Josh, the trio is stunned when Gracie stubbornly declines the job, saying it is not possible to pull off the perfect wedding two weeks before Christmas. Eventually, Gracie relents and agrees to plan the wedding, only to discover there are more hurdles to overcome than expected. An executive producer on the project, "Jingle Bells, Wedding Bells" was to be one of two holiday movies that were to star the former "Full House" actress this upcoming holiday season. The other movie, "A Christmas Less Traveled" co-starring Eric Johnson, is still a go while "Home Sweet Christmas" replaces "Jingle Bells, Weddings Bells" on the network's 2024 Christmas movie roster. Paula Elle had signed on to direct both movies, with "Jingle Bells, Wedding Bells" based on an original screenplay written by Katie Main. "Home Sweet Christmas" waswritten by Kevin Commins and Robin Dunne. No reason was given for the change in production for “Jingle Bells, Wedding Bells.” At press time, it was unclear if the project would be moving forward at all, or if it will instead be pushed back as part of next year’s holiday movie slate. 20. To Whom It May Concern: Please be advised that we are aware of a troll posting on the main Soap Opera Network website who for the last couple of months has been utilizing the comment section to publish disgusting, vitriolic, bigoted and racial garbage under various articles. Just know that you will be caught and you will be banned. For anyone currently registered to the SON Community who is potentially involved in this, re-read the above line. Regardless of what opinion one might have of posters on the SON Community or even the administration itself, your desire to waste your time, energy, and life posing as someone with hate in your mind is a choice. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about. Don't worry about it. For those that do, you likely know the culprit. I don't mind if you rat them out. Better do it sooner rather than later because if several people are found to be connected to this issue, you will also be banned. Thank you.
  21. Production is now underway for “Home Sweet Christmas,” starring Candace Cameron Bure and Cameron Mathison (Drew Cain, “General Hospital”), Great American Family announced on Wednesday. The movie, which premieres later this year as part of the network’s beloved Great American Christmas franchise, sees Bure playing the role of Sophie Marlow, a successful mergers and acquisitions attorney who is called home to Waynesbridge, Washington following her great uncle’s passing. After Uncle Henry leaves Sophie 60% ownership in his Marlow Maple Meadows, a sprawling patch of sugar maple forest, she decides to pay a visit to the property for the first time in decades and immediately begins to trace her steps back to her youth before encountering an adult Sam (Mathison), her long-lost, childhood friend. Incidentally, Sam is also back in town to visit the farm after learning Henry left him the other 40% of the property. Although a legacy property generally means a quick sale is likely, Sophie and Sam will soon discover that neither of them is ready to let it go just yet. A Syrup Studios production in association with Candy Rock Entertainment, “Home Sweet Christmas” is being directed by Paula Elle based on an original screenplay written by Kevin Commins and Robin Dunne. Mick MacKay serves as producer, with Candace Cameron Bure, Ford Englerth, Jeffery Brooks, Holly A. Hines, Eric Jarboe, Gerald Webb, Trevor McWhinney, Paula Elle, and Martin Wood as executive producers. Supervising producers include Jonathan Shore, Robyn Wiener and Michael Shepard, with David Oland serving as associate producer. A premiere date for “Home Sweet Christmas” has not been set. 22. Ahead of the show’s launch of Season 5 on Monday, September 9, Wendy McMahon, president and CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures, announced on Thursday that “The Drew Barrymore Show” has been renewed for a sixth season. The series has shown strong momentum across local markets this season, growing viewership by +8% in the first quarter of 2024 over the prior quarter, outpacing its key talk competitors. The series also has significant reach on digital and social platforms, with Facebook growth accelerating by a whopping +600% year to year and Instagram engagements up by +72% year to year. 23. Weeks after announcing that Rick Hearst would be reprising his role as Ric Lansing on “General Hospital,” the actor finally makes his Port Charles return starting with the Thursday, August 22 episode for what is reportedly going to be a “nice run” for the actor. In an interview with TV Insider, Hearst talks about his return to the daytime drama series after an eight-year absence, and what role his character will be playing in the Molly (Kristen Vaganos) vs. Kristina (Kate Mansi) battle that has been brewing for months, and has only heightened following the death of Irene Marie Ashford. First things first: Ric is in town to support his daughter, Molly, as she’s mourning the loss of the daughter she was to adopt after sister Kristina gave birth to the baby as part of a deal in which Molly’s domestic partner T.J. Ashford (Tajh Bellow) donated his precious cargo to Kristina who was to be a surrogate for the couple. In the time leading up to the birth, sadly the baby died after Kristina fell into the Metro Court pool following a confrontation between her and Ava (Maura West). Unbeknownst to Molly and T.J., Kristina had previously decided that she would fight for sole custody of the baby and had plans to keep the little girl out of Molly and T.J.’s life. With the funeral for baby Irene underway, Molly gets a surprise visit from her father who tells her, “I didn’t want my presence to be a distraction but Alexis and I talked about it and we agreed I needed to be here.” Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) is Molly and Kristina’s mother, although they both have different fathers (Kristina’s dad is Sonny Corinthos, played by Maurice Benard). Although his character is not the best father, “his intent is to be the best father,” says Hearst to TV Insider of his character’s thinking. ‘His intent is to always try to be the most forthright human being, and the back and forth of being that imperfect individual can hopefully be entertaining and watchable. That’s what I’ve always loved about this character. He can go anywhere, he can connect with anybody, and at the same time, you never know what’s in store but you always know it’s going to be something that can be questionable.” Note: The post Rick Hearst Talks Return To ‘General Hospital,’ Teases Character’s Role In Latest Family Drama appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website.
